Anyone else think that new Oliver Stone film looks like a 2 hour SNL skit?

I saw a show (in between the biker gang shows) on the History Channel the other day that tore apart JFK big time. I wonder if they will do such a show about the Nixon movie - that would be interesting.

Anything Phil Hartman touched turned to gold.

I loved his Stockdale impression - when Carvey's Perot is driving his out to the wilderness to set him free. :rotfl

I forgot about that one -

A skit that plays up Barack and Michelle's fist bump:

(Obama's in a meeting with world leaders, and when he meets with each one, they each have their own distinct fist-bump/hand-slap routine.)

OBAMA: Good to see you Mr. Brown.

BROWN: Nice to see you Barack. How's it going?

(They fist bump, slap their hands on the palms, then on the back of their hands, then make a rock out of their hands and bump on top and bottom to the fist, then wiggle their fingers at each other.)

(Barack walks up to another leader, says "hi", then Obama fist bumps and hand-slaps the guy. Then he extends his elbow for an elbow bump, but the leader doesn't catch on)

OBAMA: No, no, you got it all wrong. Remember....fist bumps, hand slaps, then we ELBOW-bump...remember? Let's try it again.

Each world leader thereafter is giddy about their routine, but keeps messing it up and Obama re-teaches it.

In the meantime, Biden just hand-shakes with everybody, and feels like a complete uncool loser....and he tries once to start to a cool hand-shake, but it fails miserably.

Not bad.

I think playing up Obama as the straight man is the way to go, though. I think why the existing skits with him haven't been any good (and why Armisen's impression is dull) - is they're putting him in obvious situations like debates. Put him back in high school or something. "Look, I will uhh - do, my homework. There's no question of that. But mom, it's Soul Train. Soul. Train."

My only idea for an Obama sketch (which may have already been done -- I don't watch the show) is a riff on his rhetorical style. He would finish a campaign speech, then retreat to a hotel room (or campaign bus, or other venue) where he would interact with other people in person and on the phone. He would call his daughter's school to discuss some matter and adopt that same campaign-speech cadence on the phone (throwing in some familiar phrases, repackaged for the shift in context), then he'd dispense advice to an aide about polishing his jump shot (same cadence, similar use of phrases), then he'd call for room service (or order pizza) in the same way. Perhaps in between these mini-performances, he'd talk in a shockingly casual manner that was the complete opposite of his public persona.

Of course, this seems like the kind of sketch that SNL might do anyway, and they probably wouldn't do it well. I guess that's why I'm not a comedy writer.

Barack Obama, the candidate of Change:

(Obama walks in the door of his home after a day at the office....greeted by his two girls)

GIRLS: Hi Daddy! Wanna go shoot baskets with us outside?

OBAMA: Shoot baskets? Didn't we do that yesterday? And the day before that? I'm getting tired of that.

GIRLS: Okay. How about we play Scrabble?

OBAMA: Scrabble?! We've been playing that same old crappy game for years now. That game is asinine.

GIRLS: Um....okay, Daddy. What do you wanna do?

OBAMA: I don't know. I need to go change.

GIRLS: Ok.

(Obama leaves)

MICHELLE: Girls...Barack...dinner's ready!

(Girls walk into kitchen. Obama comes back with different clothes on and yellow hair and funky glasses)

MICHELLE: Honey, what on earth are you doing?

OBAMA: What?

MICHELLE: You look ridiculous.

OBAMA: I just changed out of my work clothes, that's all. Pass me the lasagna, please.

MICHELLE: Here you go honey.

OBAMA: Thanks.

(Obama puts lasagna on his plate then rushes leaves the kitchen)

MICHELLE: Honey, where you going?

OBAMA: I'll be right back.

GIRLS: (Roll eyes)

(Obama comes back...now with a fedora hat, fake mustache and pajamas on)

MICHELLE: Barack! What's going on?

OBAMA: Nothing honey, I just needed to change. Pass me the ketchup, please. We got any cinammon?

(Obama puts ketchup and cinammon on his lasagna)

GIRLS: Ewwwwww!......gross, Daddy.

OBAMA: It's not gross, it's just different. Try it!

(This continues until skit gets run in the ground, like most SNL bits.)

You mean that thing the Wonder Twins do?

A super-hero bit with Obama and Biden together could be funny. Obama's the cool, smooth-talking, smooth-acting one, and Biden keeps screwing up the plans by saying the wrong thing to villains or getting in bad situations.

This could be good.

Best show so far....though that's not saying a whole lot.

The talking to animals was pretty funny, I agree.

The Biden/Palin skit wasn't terrible. Jason Sudeikis is at least funny as Biden. The digs at Biden (ripping Scranton and saying how much he likes McCain, only to rip him later) were comical, but very soft jabs. As usual, Palin is portrayed as a loon without a brain.

I liked Will Forte on the news, singing the song about how everyone voted....very funny. Sadly, that was the ONLY highlight of the news...the news update is getting weaker by the week.

The Mary Poppins skit is the type of skit that was vintage great SNL.

Rumors are that Palin is going to appear on SNL. From the Chicago Sun Times:

"It's looking more and more likely that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will appear on ''Saturday Night Live'' -- to have some fun with Tina Fey.

As the comedian's impressions of the GOP vice presidential candidate draw laughs from Republicans and Democrats alike, a top honcho from the John McCain campaign tells me there's a debate going on about how to respond.

Some key McCain staffers are content with Palin joking about the "SNL" routines on the campaign trail -- as when she scribbled "I'm not Tina Fey" on a supporter's cell phone and said she'd dressed as Fey on Halloween. But others -- including the governor herself -- think a return punch on the NBC airwaves is what's needed.

I'm hearing some sort of Palin tweak of Fey's American Express commercials is in the works.

While next weekend's ''Saturday Night Live'' will be a rerun, it is possible Palin could appear Thursday on the first of NBC's ''Weekend Update'' specials in prime time.

Otherwise, the next orginal "SNL'' show will be broadcast Oct. 18, a little more than two weeks before the election."
