Duck-Billed Catechist
Not only that but it always felt like Gates became Mr Philanthropist right around the time that Microsoft's anti-trust problems started getting messy. I'm not saying the two are connected, and frankly, I dont know that it matters to the people that have benefited from his generosity. But when Microsoft gives out free computers to kids in Africa that can't afford it, are we sure it's not the classic case of giving out free samples to get the kids hooked?Could be that. Could also be just reaching middle age or realizing that his company was hugely successful and it was pointless to focus just on making money/building the company any more. Could be the specter of aging making him wonder what people would think of him after his death, etc.

caliber66
I can't fathom why you would feel the need to quantify generosity. It was simply a means to an end; i.e., to bring up religion.

EL the Famous
can you find an atheism vs. faith angle to haphazardly inject into the MLB thread too? this is fucking hilarious. Â maybe comparing kerry wood's bowl-a-thon to the mother theresa work?

Is there such a thing as intangibles in baseball? If a stathead can't define it with OPS or VORP, does it exist? Science vs faith. Bill James vs. Lammycat.
