Post-season MLB

Recommended Posts

Sort of annoyed by how at least 2 of the TBS guys tonight (Harold Reynolds post-game, but also one of the guys during the game too -- don't remember which one) insisted that "If we told you this score before the game, no one would have expected it to be the Rays winning it" or something to that effect. Why is it so surprising? The Rays had the better record in the regular season, and the teams essentially split their head-to-head regular season series, so why would "no one" expect the Rays to win this game?

I expect it mostly had to do with Lester pitching. Before tonight's game he was 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA against the Rays this season, he was 11-1 at Fenway, and he had a streak of 24 2/3 consecutive postseason innings without allowing an earned run, including 16 this year.

That being said, TBS's coverage still beats the shit out of Fox's baseball coverage (FrankTV spots excepted).

The general consensus among sox fans is that the TBS announcers have spent the last three games fellating the Devil Rays. I'm surprised they could say anything with their mouths so full.

Oh, now. A team going from worst-to-first is a much better story than a team defending its second championship in four years. When you win the World Series once in a decade, you can still kind of hold on to the sympathy vote, but not after twice. Then you become overdog.

Oh, i agree. And without kooks on the team, I feel like we've lost a little something. I don't know how to explain it. Character? that's not really it, but the team doesn't seem the same without the wacky business of Manny (the good wacky business like high fiving while catching a fly ball) and Julian Tavares bowling to first place... the goofy ritual handshakes. There's just something missing, and it shows.

I don't really begrudge he Devil Ray's their rise to fame as much as I make fun of them. They've been playing really hard and really well, and until recently, in an empty stadium. That can't be easy. They have showed incredible poise under a lot of pressure. It is impressive! But the TBS announcers need to announce more and root less. It just doesn't seem all that responsible or credible or professional. The TBS guys are not Remdawg and Orsillo, or team announcers.

But tomorrow, the voodoo dolls getting its ass handed to him. And a trip to the litterbox. Not necessarily in that order, dammit!

What exactly positive could the TBS guys have said tonight about the Sox? Of course it was gonna be all gushing over the Rays, considering how the game went.

But yeah, I'm sure the first two games, it was all Rays' talk, all the time from the announcers. The Bosox definitely need more air time from the national media.

I never though I would live to hear somebody complaining about the Red Sox not getting enough coverage in the media. That said, I tend to agree. I'm certainly no fan so not hearing about them has been pleasant but very odd.

no complaint about the tbs announcers. none of them is tim mccarver; none of them is jon miller. that gives them at least a B+ right there.

i miss the sox characters too. about all that's left for lighthearted whimsy is the don and jerry show during the regular season, which can make up for a little of what is gone.

if the sox have to lose, i'll be glad it's to the rays, who are more than interesting this year and without strutting -- good combo.

What's wid these Fla. teams. Marlins: first two seasons over .500=2 World Titles. Rays: first year over .500 (best previous was 21-game under)=1 win from World Series.

Years in the cellar=good draft picks, which the organizations have wisely developed.

I definitely don't like being considered the new evil empire... Without the goof factor (and this series not withstanding) I think that's what creates an evil empire. I want some fun back.

so, if it means we tank in the ALCS and not make it to the WS, then that is ok with me.

Well, the Yankees decades-long tradition of arrogance and air of entitlement is what made them an evil empire. Boston is nowhere near that.
