Post-season MLB

Recommended Posts

Well, the Yankees decades-long tradition of arrogance and air of entitlement is what made them an evil empire. Boston is nowhere near that.

and yet everywhere I go, people are saying we're the new Yankees. What you say is true, of course, but being the team everyone hates is no fun at all. Folks have a pretty short memory. Just because we won two world series in the same decade, it seems to negate all the near misses and really shitty season ending games over the last 100 years.

They said the same thing about the Mets in the '80s. (Though it was kind of true in that case - those dudes were dicks.)

Um, hi. Actually 100 years for this fan's organization. And counting. Always counting. :ohwell

winning the WS after a million years of those near misses is like winning the lottery. It is more likely to fuck you up and ruin your life than anything else.

Years in the cellar=good draft picks, which the organizations have wisely developed.

Right, but usually it's a gradual climb - up to .500, a couple 1st-division finishes, a couple playoff appearances. These guys go from steaming s--- to solid gold.

I don't think it's that uncommon nowadays.

Last year's NL champ Colorado Rockies were 76-86 in 2006.

The 2006 AL champ Detroit Tigers were an abysmal 71-91 in 2005.

The 2003 World Series champ Florida Marlins were 79-83 in 2004.

The 2002 World Series champ Anaheim Angels were 75-87 in 2001.

The 1998 NL champ San Diego Padres were 76-86 in 1997.

The 1993 NL champ Philadelphia Phillies were a tremendously shitty 70-92 in 1992.

The 1991 World Series champ Minnesota Twins were 74-88 in 1990.

The 1991 NL champ Atlanta Braves were 65-97(!!!!!!!) in 1990.

That's just the ones that went to the World Series -- there are probably quite a few more shitty teams that made the playoffs the next year that didn't make it to the World Series, but this is all I feel like looking up right now.

That '91 World Series was crazy.

Free agency has allowed teams to get better a lot faster than they used to be able to, though the Rays were mainly built through the draft and trades.

Yeah, I should have said three. Damn.

Worst post board moment ever.

Haha, sorry man. In all seriousness though, every single time a team has come back from 3-1, it felt insurmountable. After all, the team up 3-1 had to look pretty darn good to get there, and the team down 3-1 had to look pretty bad to lose 3 of 4. But, it does happen. And not all that infrequently.

It's true. Obviously a tough spot for them to be in, but they came back from 3-1 to win the ALCS just last year.

Red Sox are just not playing well. I don't see it happening. Sorry to be such a debbie downer, but honestly, the last few games have really sucked. How many runs have the Sox scored? like 4? in 4 games? and the Devil Rays have scored, what? 45? Their bats are hot, our pitching is not, and the Red Sox seem to be using wiffle ball bats.

"What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

Sorry about that. The book "The Bad Guys Won" is a poorly-written, cliche-riddled piece of crap, but it has some funny stories in it.
