Analogman
There's a mini-Wilco/VW type blow up happening on the Backstreets forum over the WalMart exclusivity rights for the new Greatest Hits. Lots of very valid, legitimate points, followed by lots of blowhards. And "Magic" gruesome? Really? I couldn't disagree with that more. I bet. I'd still like to know why he let the song Blood Brothers be used in that Cold Case TV Show a while back. The dude can't need the cash at this point.
CortezTheKiller
I really enjoy "Magic"I think it's an amazing album. I would put the second half of that album up against any half he's done. "I'll Work for Your Love" "Magic""Last to Die" "Long Walk Home""Devil's Arcade""Terry's Song"

"I'll Work for Your Love" "Magic""Last to Die" "Long Walk Home""Devil's Arcade""Terry's Song" Totally agree. Overall, it's a strong album, but starting with, "I'll Work for Your Love" it's terrific. solace
so i was pretty nonplussed by the first 2 songs from this new record, but this 3rd one is way worse http://www.amazon.com/Life-Itself-Amazon-E...21&sr=102-1 free download starting today
Analogman
It seems like he is giving the album away before it comes out - I think The Pretenders did that with their last album. That is, they posted a Mp3 of a song from the album each day - or something like that.
cre618
Hearing rumblings that this might be out there....anyone find it? Jack
Analogman
From Billboard.com: Springsteen Goes Free With Amazon, 'Guitar Hero'Bruce SpringsteenJanuary 05, 2009 01:50 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Bruce Springsteen is offering free downloads through Amazon.com and "Guitar Hero" in the run-up to the Jan. 27 release of his next Columbia album, "Working on a Dream." The third single from that project, "Life Itself," is up as a free track on Amazon.com as of today, along with a new video. Amazon previously made the album track "My Lucky Day" available, while the title cut was initially an iTunes exclusive. Meanwhile, "My Lucky Day" and "Born To Run" will be free downloads on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions of "Guitar Hero: World Tour," beginning on the new album's release date and running through Feb. 4. Afterward, they will cost $2. As previously reported, Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform Feb. 1 during the Super Bowl XLIII halftime show in Tampa, Fla. The group has yet to confirm tour plans in support of "Working on a Dream," but headlining appearances at the Bonnaroo festival in mid-June and the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival later that month are strongly rumored. That is, they posted a Mp3 of a song from the album each day - or something like that. He may as well give it away because those songs keep getting worse the more I hear them. That one Life Itself is terrible. It sounds like he is trying to crowbar words into a different tune all together. I had to check to see if there wasn't some else playing on my computer while I listened to that song on Amazon.

LouisvilleGreg
Lots of Springsteen news floating around out there today: A- Probable show at the Lincoln Memorial for free on the 18th!B-New tour will be 50-60 total shows, starting in late February!!C- Possible mini-sets of classic ESB albums in their entirety is being considered for the new tour!!! That last thing on the list in particular has me swimming in the possibilities. I just wonder if they'll announce in advance what will be played when, or if it will be a crapshoot. I've gotta be there for the "WIESS" night, that would be epic.

Danny ClinchComplete Bruce Springsteen Archive More Complete Album Previews Official Bruce Springsteen Web Site NPR.org, January 9, 2009 - Bruce Springsteen's return to pop production (and the E Street Band) on his 2007 album Magic left him wanting more. Although he hadn't pushed himself to complete back-to-back albums in more than 30 years, The legendary singer's longtime producer, Brendan O'Brien, urged Springsteen to keep recording. "I thought, 'No, I haven't done that since my first two records came out in the same year,' " Springsteen says. "Usually, I don't write that quickly. But I went back to my hotel in Atlanta, and over the next week, I wrote several songs that formed the beginning of the new album (Working on a Dream). I found there was more than enough fuel for the fire to keep going." Working on a Dream, which will stream in its entirety here starting Jan.

TheMaker
I don't know, I like Life Itself and Lucky Day a lot better than anything on any of his other '00s records... I agree that the title track is worryingly bad, though. Still, uh, have you heard Magic and The Rising? I rest my case.
solace
i can't stand Life Itself, sorry. Bruce's voice on it pains me. but honestly i quite liked The Rising... maybe only 2-3 songs on there i don't like. City of Ruins is one of my all time fave Bruce songs too (the studio version isn't nearly as great as the 9/11 tribute one however) and there were 4-5 really good songs on Magic. i guess that's all that i can hope for, is at least 3-4 very good songs, since we'll be hearing them plenty on tour. you ever seen a ghost?
The Rising was always a favorite of mine too. the only criticism i've heard was overproduction, but i think the production suits the bombastic material! -justin
