Spawn's dad
With all the talk of how fucked the economy is, I'm shocked there were than many people waiting online to go shopping. Who in the goddamn bloody hell waits on line for the privilege to shop in a big box store? As if the stuff wasn't going to be there on Saturday. Jesusmaryannjoseph we're lost. I've seen our god, and it manufactures plastic.
John Smith
A pregnant woman also miscarried during the stampede. Hey, at least some one got a HDTV for 60% off The stoary I read said she was trampled but the baby was going to be OK, had this changed? Either way this is messed up and there is no good reason whatsoever to behave like this. Not for the Who and not for a low priced TV or a Wii.

Edie
My husband wrote a poem about this today, called "Merry Christmas Everybody". I'll post it after he reads it; probably tomorrow at the Green Mill.
Analogman
Although the shopping deal is the motivator, what's really going on here is herd behavior. This goes on quite often - for one reason or another. Sometimes it's political in nature, sports related, concert related, etc. - but, it always ends with someone or someone's property getting destroyed. Herd behavior describes how individuals in a group can act together without planned direction. The term pertains to the behavior of animals in herds, flocks, and schools, and to human conduct during activities such as stock market bubbles and crashes, street demonstrations, sporting events, episodes of mob violence and even everyday decision making, judgment and opinion forming. mountain bed
Yes, I've seen it first-hand (Deer Creek '95) and it's pretty frightening stuff. I thought the best thing about Barack's speech at Grant Park was the fact there were a quarter million folks there (some of whom were REALLY excited) but there were no violent acts going down. You think if the Cubs won the Series they would have been that restrained? Probably not.
explodo
I got trampled by teens at a Ben Folds concert a few years ago. No serious injuries, but I won't soon forget it.
aricandover
I got trampled by teens at a Ben Folds concert a few years ago. No serious injuries, but I won't soon forget it. I saw that guy, Ben Folds, the other night. he has a new video where he molests a little kid and then writes a letter to Dear Abby about it.

OOO
In the early morning rush at a Wal-Mart on Black Friday, customers fight over the last X-Box 360 console. (video) The baffling part is that Xbox 360 is 3 years old and has been widely available for the past 2 christmases, so its just silly.

Guest Speed Racer
I was driving home from Thanksgiving at 3am (Rock Band is ridiculously addictive) and there were already back-ups on the exits for three major malls off the interstate up here. I hate shopping and I hate crowds, and while I can almost see the allure of getting a good bargain, it's still ridiculous. At this point, I assess Black Friday participation on the same level as I do marathons and triathlons: this is just one of those ridiculous things people do.
