PigSooie
I was thinking of this on the way home yesterday. There are some great song openings out there whether they be lyrical or instrumental. What are some of your favs? Something happens to me when the Mariachi trumpets kick on Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."
PopTodd
There are the obvious:"A Hard Day's Night", of course."Rocks Off" (Rolling Stones) -- has the greatest single snare hit in all of rock & roll. But also:"Get Ready For Love" (Nick Cave) -- Starting with the throbbing band, followed by Nick's howl of the song's title and the gospel choir's response of "Praise Him..." Also, every single Ramones song: "One, Two, Three, Four!!!"

PigSooie
As a child of the Mississippi delta, I've always liked the opening line from Paul Simon's "Graceland." "The Mississippi Delta was shining like a national guitar"
mjpuczko
like a rolling stone. musically & lyricallyi love the intro to wiser time by the black crowes. strangely enough, those are probably my two favorite songs.
kimcatch22
Zep's "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," how it builds up til Robert starts singing. "Moby Dick." It announces Bonham's presence and then kicks into that awesome riff. Simple, no-nonsense, but still in your face.

calvino
I always have been partial to Honky Tonk Women, when it comes to the Stones. Very simple opening, of course. Also the Dead in me has to say Dark Star.

yermom
A couple of many I love are when Sam starts singing on "A Change is Gonna Come," and the opening to Al Green's "Love and Happiness" where you can hear the drummer tapping his foot on a Coke box to get the rhythm going, then heavenly organ comes in...I get the warm fuzzies just thinking about it.
