Duck-Billed Catechist
in these uncertain times? high-speed internet?premium movie channels? Cable TV?Bottled water?Cell phones?$2+ coffee?Concert tickets that cost more than $30?I don't think I could go without high speed internet easily, but it doesn't cost very much ($20/mo. as part of a package). My cell phone service is free through my work. The rest of that stuff I generally don't have/buy.
dondoboy
I could live without all of those things, but the concert tickets. And its getting close to choosing time.
Sir Stewart
in these uncertain times? high-speed internet?Cable TV?Cell phones?Take all the other shit, not that I had it. Cable's next on the block, though.
RaspberryJam
I would need the cell phone. I would want either tv or high speed internet, I don't need either, but would want one. I don't use bottled water or buy coffee out anyway. Concert tix over $35 could go, I suppose, there could be exceptions. My only big indulgence right now is skiing and I really wouldn't want to let go of that. I could drink cheaper wine, I guess. If I had to.
mfwahl
I need internet. Been cutting back on booze and eating out. Those are my biggest unnecessary expenses. Been bringing stuff to work. Concert tickets - I guess I'm cutting them out. Not too many shows come here so I have to travel, so none of that now.
Moe_Syzlak
in these uncertain times? high-speed internet?premium movie channels? Cable TV?Bottled water?Cell phones?$2+ coffee?Concert tickets that cost more than $30?I work from home, so hi-speed internet is essential.I don't have any premium cable channels. I used to have HBO, but realized all I was watching anymore was Entourage.I could live without cable, but it doesn't feel like a big expense either.Never use bottled water and not because of cost.Cell phone is my primary work phone -- I don't even have a land line -- and I write it off as a work expense.Make my own coffee!I rarely go to concerts over $30. I think my next expensive concert is Andrew Bird and that is $25.
explodo
All but internet could be axed from my life.
deepseacatfish
Yeah the being unemployed (and prior to that student teaching) thing has definitely left me cutting back plenty. I honestly haven't seen any concerts, period, since November and that was the one concert (Calexico) that I spent any money on this fall. Definitely cut back on the buying booze and going out to eat, not that I mind since I love cooking, but it happens. No cable here anyway, so nothing to cut there. Mostly I've just tried to stop buying anything that's not essential. Tough stuff, but not the end of my world.
Moss
I could give up everything on the list but the Internet would be tough. I don't have a problem drinking wine from a box but giving up good beer would be tough.
Lammycat
in these uncertain times? high-speed internet?premium movie channels? Cable TV?Bottled water?Cell phones?$2+ coffee?Concert tickets that cost more than $30?Need internet for grad school (all on-line). And porn. Could do with out HBO/Encore/etc. Need cable for Jeopardy and MLB EI. This is non-negotiable. Bottled water is a rip off. Most of it isn't any cleaner than tap water. The in-home filters are where it's at. Can do without a cell phone. I rarely use it as is. Could do without the expensive coffee. Don't drink enough as is, anyway. Rarely buy concert tix that are more than $20, but it wouldn't stop me if I had to. Sometimes I have to.
cryptique
I would have a hard time without SOME kind of internet, preferably faster than dial-up. We have a fairly basic cable TV package, and I'd prefer to keep it, but it would get axed before the internet. None of that other stuff matters to me. I don't do coffee or bottled water anyway. I enjoy concerts but am not obsessive about them and could easily cut them out. I have a bare-bones prepaid cell phone that I almost never use and simply wouldn't renew. My existence is pretty frugal even in good times. Internet is the only thing I'd really hate to lose.
aricandover
everything but the internet, and even then I could probably get by just using it at work.
Sir Stewart
I did not renew my annual gym membership this month. I really need to, but I also need to find a job (recently finished a full-time web design program).

lamradio
I quit smoking, so that's going to save some $. (I'm on day two.. not a very nice person to be around right now) Honestly, I could survive off of Beer and my guitar.
Party @ the Moontower
I could never give up good beer. I will buy that before food. The man makes his own beer & hard cider, so we are stocked quite nicely for rough times. We are lucky to have solar so we save on not having a gas bill, sewer, water..and have a low electric bill. Me & fatheadfred only commute 6 miles to work so gas is cheap. All the meat, eggs & raw milk we need is in our backyard so that saves some big $$$. my cell is my only work phone @ my massage office so gotta keep it. We ditched the movie channels for Blockbuster online. I could never give up TV. I have a SIGG H2o water bottle so I try to avoid the plastic...and we have our own filtered water from our spring here @ home. Gave up lattes for plain old java. We use a lovely french press & buy fresh roasted beans Concert tickets...music before food. I need $500 dollars so one of my 5 dogs can have some much needed dental work. Donations excepted

Knepps
I really don't watch a lot of tv, and the shows that I love I can catch online now so I probably wouldn't need it other than for baseball/football. It would be hard to give up internet and concerts but everything else could be doable. People might look at you funny nowadays if you don't have a cellphone.

cryptique
how so?Though it's not explicitly stated, the subject of the thread hints at a lack of employment.
Wendy
Hm. I read it as just cutting back, since we're all sorta watching ourselves more (I'm assuming anyway) I'm thinking it's time for HBO to take a hike, although today I did enjoy some episodes of those wacky polygamists on "Big Love" I'm not sure I care too much about it anymore. If "Pushing Daisies" came back on HBO, I'd keep buying it.
