Emotionally Moving Songs

Recommended Posts

So many to choose. I would have to go for:

M. Ward: 'Lullaby and Exile' (Had this at my wedding and everyone got all emotional)

Van Morrison: 'Country Fair'

Tom Waits: 'I'm Still Here'

Neil Young: 'Out Of My Mind'

Micah P. Hinson: 'Don't Leave Me Now'

Eels: 'The Medication Is Wearing Off'

Candy Staton: 'I'll Sing A Love Song For You'

Lambchop: 'My Blue Wave'

And...

Wilco: 'Reservations'

I'd add "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"--The Band

In terms of The Band, I would say 'It Makes No Difference'. The Last Waltz version. The way Rick Danko sings the line 'I love you so much' gets me every time.

"Irish Heartbeat" Van the Man with the Chieftains.

Reminds me of my best friend, my younger brother, who I never see anymore because he lives on the other side of the world.

"Oh wont you stay

Stay a while with your own ones

Dont ever stray

Stray so far from your own ones

cause the world is so cold

Dont care nothing for your soul

That you share with your own ones

Dont rush away

Rush away from your own ones

Just one more day

One more day with your own ones

cause the world is so cold

Dont care nothing bout your soul

That you share with your own ones

Theres a stranger

And hes standing at your door

Might be your best friend, might be your brother

You may never know

Im going back

Going back to my own ones

Come back to talk

Talk a while with my own ones

cause the world is so cold

Dont care nothing bout your soul

You share with your own ones

Oh wont you stay

One more day with your own ones

Dont rush away

Rush away from your own ones

This old world is so cold,

Dont care nothing for your soul

You share with your own ones"

Iron & Wine's "Naked As We Came" always kinda gets me.

She says "wake up, it's no use pretending"

I'll keep stealing, breathing her.

Birds are leaving over autumn's ending

One of us will die inside these arms

Eyes wide open, naked as we came

One will spread our ashes 'round the yard

She says "If I leave before you, darling

Don't you waste me in the ground"

I lay smiling like our sleeping children

One of us will die inside these arms

Eyes wide open, naked as we came

One will spread our ashes round the yard

Gold In Them Hills - Ron Sexsmith

Ron has this ability to say things that are such simple emotions and thoughts in such an elegant way and this song is the perfect example.

I agree. His duet of this song with Chris Martin is equally powerful.

I'll say:

"The Beautiful Ones" - Prince (Wow....he sounds seriously wounded and desparate at the end of the song)

"The Last Ride" - Richard Buckner (A very sad song, which is made all the more powerful with Buckner's voice and howl)

I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.
