Wilco tattoo

Recommended Posts

Hello, longtime lurker (see my sign up date ;) ).

I'm thinking my next tattoo should in some way reference Wilco. Each of my current tattoos are an oblique references to a band and also a reference to something else important to me.

For example, I have a "magic potion" on my upper right arm which is an obscure reference to The Shins and at the same time my love of experimentation in music:

Blurry, strangely lopsided looking phone camera pic included, I guess my arm was twisted! :-)

I'm thinking of possibly getting a series of blocks and rectangles that will be morse code for YHF - thus being a reference to Wilco and at the same time being symbolic of music as code/noise. I definitely want whatever my Wilco tattoo ends up being as having some sort of connection to the relationship between music and noise, and where the two meet.

Any artists have any ideas? :-)

Thanks for reading.

You could get the single bird from the SBS cover. Or, if you're feeling like a masochist, that big cloud of them :lol

I'm just disappointed that the potion tattoo is not on your shin. What were you thinking? ;)

Now, why have you lurked for so long without saying hello?? :ermm

I do quite like the idea of the single lone bird from the SBS cover, possibly on the shoulder. The bird cloud would never in a million years work as a tattoo, unless it was blown up to literally your entire back (this is NOT going to happen :P).

But thanks for the suggestion :-)

I've a hummingbird on my back hip. I did not think my favorite song (I Am Trying to Break Your Heart) would translate into a graphic image (a little guy aiming a sledge hammer at a big heart?), so I went with a hummingbird.

It has more than one meaning -- it's kind of my ode to Wilco, and in memory of a friend who passed away.

Side Note: I did offer to show it to Jeff, but he demurely declined. It's not in a dirty place, I even showed my boss and my mom. It's no where close to anything tush like. I guess he's just a good egg. Or he did not want to puke at the unsightly overhang which is my lower back.

I also have the Toth (raven-headed Egyptian god) on my shoulder -- in honor of Robyn Hitchcock. When I showed him, he said. "Well, now you can't donate your body to science." A very R. Hitchcock response. I was thrilled.

Get Jeff's signature, have that inked on... or how about a bee? Like Muzzle of Bees.

I like this idea. I was actually thinking along the same lines.

The abalone inlay that Jeff designed for the headstock of his signature Breedlove 000 is cool. Two bees around a flower. Get rid of the "B" for breedlove and substitute his signature.

They have one for sale at www.musiciansfriend.com for only $4999.99!

I got inspiration from looking at the Wilco Book.

...okay, maybe not inspiration. I took mine straight out of the book, but made it my own:

Perhaps the book might help you think of something!

Get a map of the United States on your back and then get it removed (My Country Has Disappeared)

Seriously, I like the AGIB egg. It's a reference to Wilco and birth/rebirth.

I really like the morse code YHF idea.

You should get a fist so clear and climbing that punches a hole in the sky so you can see for yourself if you don't believe me that there's so much less to this than you think... :stunned
