Not bad, not bad at all. Thoughts? Anyone else going?

It's a really good lineup.

Price is pretty steep, but I will do what I have done the past few years and get day passes at the last minute on craigslist.

Should have slightly cooler weather (moved back to early October this year), and they are putting in the new sod and irrigation system now. So hopefully much less dust in the park.

i think the lineup is god awful - one of the worst ever...

pearl jam is good

but then you go to beastie boys, dave matthews band, kings of leon, ben harper, etc.

jesus terrible for $185. hopefully pearl jam will do their own solo concert friday or saturday and i can see them then.

how is ghostland observatory a main draw? sonic youth is well past their prime (as well is pearl jam, but pearl jam can still put on a decent show). toadies are horrible live, one of the worst. john legend - i like him but wouldn't expect much from a live performance out in the blistering heat.

arctic monkeys - how did they go from almost headlining acl a couple years ago to being like the 20th most popular band on the list?

then you have coheed and cambria (they are still making terrible emo music?) and girl talk (hurray lets sit around and watch a guy press buttons)

i'm very glad i waited for the lineup this year. ACL has been increasingly a huge disappointment. I thought maybe they'd get wilco to come back this year after an absence but I guess no luck in that. Tweedy probably saw the lineup and told them thanks but no thanks.

Yeah, I'd definitely say the headliners are pretty weak (at least for my tastes) but I think the second and third tiers are decent. In the second tier, there are the Decemberists, Andrew Bird, Girl Talk, Bon Iver, Lily Allen, among otherrs. And there are a number of acts on the undercard that I'd like to see as well -- Rodriguez, The Knux, Sarah Siskind, Sara Watkins, to name a few.

I was really hoping that Wilco would headline, since they've played the odd-numbered years I've been going. (2005, 2007)

I even half-expected Arcade Fire to play as well, since they also seemed to be on the same pattern. No dice.

Looks like I'll be sitting this one out. It'd be diff. if I were an Austinite, but I can't justify the airfare and expenses for that lineup. Nosiree.

I think they did an excellent job of snaring a number of the SXSW buzz bands like the Low Anthem, Blitzen Trapper, Henry Clay People, Deer Tick, etc.

Ben Harper and Relentless7

The Dead Weather

apart from Pearl Jam it isn't a very good lineup let's be honest.

I would say you are wrong, but your tastes probably just differ from mine. It's the best undercard of any fest aside from Roo this year, in my opinion.

well not just pearl jam I mean I was being somewhat sarcastic... I don't just like big popular bands like PJ.

I would also see sonic youth, Andrew Bird, Dan Auerbach and ofocurse the dead weather.. Not bad but I've seen better.

i've been to 2 ACLs, and while i had fun...boy is it HOT at that park. the beer is cheaper than water, and if you drink most of the day (like i did)...well...it's a workout.

the line-up is so-so. i hope everyone who goes has a great time.

  • 2 months later...

Schedule is now out and, wow, since ACL Fest's inception, I've never been more disappointed by the overlap.

http://2009.aclfestival.com/events/daily/2009/10/02/1/hbha

Walkmen and Dr. Dog at the same time on Friday.

Mos Def and Levon Helm at the same time on Saturday (OK, stylistically opposite ends of the spectrum, but I would like to see them both).

Artic Monkeys, Rebirth Brass Band, and Toadies at the same time on Sunday.
