Wilco -- 26/5/09, Madrid, Spain

Recommended Posts

Fun show tonight in Madrid. About 2 hours and 15 minutes in all, a little longer than they've been playing. Definitely more evidence that not only does the crowd feed off the band, but the band feeds off the crowd as well. I think there were at least a few VCers there, so I'll leave the bulk of the reviewing up to them.

But, for now, here was the setlist:

Sunken Treasure

Wilco (the song)

Hummingbird

Hell Is Chrome

Handshake Drugs

IATTBYH

Muzzle of Bees

A Shot in the Arm

At Least That's What You Said

Bull Black Nova

Jesus, etc.

You Are My Face

Impossible Germany

Via Chicago

Poor Places>

Spiders (Kidsmoke)

-------------------

Misunderstood

You Never Know

Hate It Here

Walken

I'm The Man Who Loves You

-------------------

A Magazine Called Sunset (dedicated to drum tech Nate)

The Late Greats

Hoodoo Voodoo

I'm A Wheel

Not to reply to my own post, but I also have to say that while I'm not typically a fan of corporate naming of arenas and clubs and the like, I must say that it was nevertheless pretty awesome that the Teatro Haagen-Dazs Calderon featured a full-service Haagen-Dazs outlet in the lobby. That's never a bad thing, IMHO.

Oh, and "You Never Know" sounded pretty awesome. :D

Banoffee ice cream from the theater lobby is always a winner.

I really had fun tonight. Muchas gracias a Madrid! Loved hearing "You Never Know" - as soon as Glenn started out with those drum beats I knew it was on. "Bull Black Nova" was excellent again, but it's not just the new songs that are highlights. Spanish crowds seem to love "Impossible Germany." I mean, it's not unusual that a crowd would love the song. But the reactions I've seen so far seem to go above and beyond what I'm used to in the U.S.

The "Magazine" dedication to Nate came about because Jeff claimed Nate goes online and requests it for every show.

That is a pretty awesome setlist, and I'm glad to see You'll Never Know making its way into the shows. I'm pretty sure this will be a kick-your-ass-tour for the band and the fans.

I'm a little surprised to see such a non W(TA) focused setlist thus far, but at the same time I understand that they want to wait til the album officially comes out.

Thanks for the info Paul/Brianne!

So are they playing BBN similarly to the album, or are they stretching it out at all? I gotta say, I am definitely looking forward to seeing it live (whenever the hell that might be).

yes.

It was one of the most beautiful moments of the show. A really intense version..

Not to sound like a whiner, but I dislike that version: it shreds the song. I want my electric guitars and anti-solos.
