Wilco 7.03.09 Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Recommended Posts

My wife and I made the trip from Kansas City, MO for this one, our third Wilco concert altogether. I have to second everything that's been said here. Amazing setlist, so excited to hear "Can't Stand It" and "Shouldn't Be Ashamed," which ROCKS in this lineup. California Stars was great, although it seemed like the guys from Okervill River didn't know all the words...just stepped up to the mic to say "california stars." Nels vs. Pat on "Hoodoo Voodoo" was epic - Pat should be given a little more room to solo - who knew he was so good!?

Anyone notice during "Jesus, Etc." during the lyric 'our love is all of God's money' there was a big flash of lightning in the distance? Awesome. Jeff had great dialogue w/the crowd, the overall energy was electric. Bad-ass show.

Bummed "Box Full of Letters" and "Casino Queen" didn't make it in, but I'll take "It's Just That Simple," which John nailed.

IN ALL - WILCO MELTED FACES!

We drove from KC too. Gotta love that drive thru Kansas!

I have done this at many Wilco shows.

Sounds like a tremendous show. Keeping my fingers crossed for autumn in Columbia.

please please please Columbia. It's sooooo close to me. I wish they would come back to the Crossroads. I had pizza @ Grinders a few weeks ago & just stared @ the stage.

They had more energy then I have ever seen them have! I felt like they never wanted to leave. Nobody wanted to leave! The amount of room they had on stage was awesome. Being on a mountain side under a Colorado sky with Wilco was the best Wilco experience I could ever have! The crowd was the most laid back & cool audience I have ever had the pleasure of being with. My calves hurt from the 5000 ft beer & bathroom runs though! Next time I am wearing diapers.

Was I the only drunk Wilco fan that gave my DNA & signed up to donate bone marrow @ one of the tables? That memory just hit me today. I hope they never call me to collect!

I looked for you at the party house as we drove by but did not see anyone outside. Maybe the rain drove you all inside?

I think folks were milling around at the house around 6pm. The dude that lives there was supernice and gave us a ride to the frontgate. There were several 'new' Wilco fans at the pre and post party and we helped convert them even more by playing some bootlegs.

What a show. From behind the sbd it looked like there was a fire down below from all the smoke rising.hahaha.

Misunderstood was rad, as was Spiders.

we were down in Morrison during the downpour having din din. I think I went to bed around 5am or so. I did hear some of the soundcheck before we headed to town. It was fun watching the wilco fans drive by the house..and then the traffic jam out was nice to watch from the haus on the hill with an ale in my hand. Having not to drive after the show was AWESOME!!!!! What an amazing show! The wind storm that blew in as the show ended was so cool! Red Rocks is such a wonderful venue. We headed to the Nederland festival sat but ended up just grabbing PBR & burritos that some guy was making out of his haus & then headed up for a campfire in the forest. I think we were in our sleeping bags by 10:30!Headed back to Colorado for camping with my 4 year old the last 9 days of the month. May hit Red Rocks for a movie under the stars. This will be her 1st camping trip ever! Hope she loves the drive across Kansas!

Right as you turn into the Red Rocks venue road it's the 1st haus on the right up on the hill

Sarah and I actually stopped in Columbia for dinner on our way back from Songs Ohia two days ago. We waxed nostalgic for those nights.

And inadvertently played disc two of Being There on the Illinois side of St. Louis.

If not we are setting up our spare bed in the guest room this weekend, so a trip here for you would not be out of the question when the Wilcos set up shop here for a long residency :)

Just thought I would mention, this was my daughters first ever rock concert (she turns 15 this month), I figure it was a good one to start with, even though there was quite the haze of pot smock floating around. She loved it.

:D That would be awesome.

I told Sarah you lived in a 15 bedroom mansion. She is rather enamored with Chicago presently.

i wish kc lawrence or columbia had better venues meself.crossroads is pretty small but last time wilco played there i had a blast and it wasnt to crowded.

Crossroads is a huge venue I think. It didn't feel too crowded at all except to use the porty potties. How lucky are the people who watched the show from their loft roof. It was a great show! The fireworks going off for what's his name playing @ the Sprint Center were an added bonus. That's a good venue! I din't dig Columbia because it was on the street & very bright & hard to see. I agree we need better venues this way. I think the Uptown in KC would be awesome.

I had a great time at the show and it was one of the best Wilco shows so far. They rock, but i never knew they could rock this hard... maybe it was the large rocks behind them. If anyone has contact info for a taper that'd be much appreciated, I'd love to have this in the collection.

Also, my beef, at red rocks for this show, do a reserved seating and a true GA seating area... none of this in between nonsense.

We took the g/f's 5-year old. Worked out great. Not a problem at all (he's been to a handful of concerts there already, but still...).

Not sure what you mean by a "true" GA seating area. The reserved section starts in the lower quarter and extends to behind the soundboard (best sounding areas) and the GA covers the rest of the entire venue...

The show was good, but overall I have had better experiences at Wilco shows. The Red Rocks crowds always seems to annoy me. Too many people trying to squeeze into the GA, out of towner's getting too drunk from the altitude, etc. Would Wilco sell 9,500 tickets in Denver if not for Red Rocks? My wife and I Saw two fights as well during the second set. I will say it's the happiest I've seen the band members, but I'm not sure that pleases me either. I've always liked the grumpy (edgy?) Tweedy performances. However, we had a great sight line to the stage, we met several really nice people, and we are thankful the band comes to Colorado so much! Hope the post does not sound too bad, just our experience this time around.

I just mean GA with no seat numbers. First come first serve sort of thing. True general admission.

Ah, gotcha. For the whole venue you mean? They do those, too. I think the sound is pretty decent in most spots in the venue and as one that doesn't have a lot of intense interest to be on top/close of/to whatever band I'm seeing I'm fine with the system either way. Though the GA section includes the immediate front too, so....
