ElBirdos
Hello all... Fell in love with this band over the past 3 or 4 months. Been listening to them for about 4 years but they really hit me this fall I guess. Caught the St. Louis shows in 08... But anyways... I come from a long tenured relationship of following Dave Matthews Band (don't hold it against me)... spent a lot of time on a board for them, went to tons of shows, so I know what it's like when a newer guy comes a long without an understanding or respect for the past history and music. So I guess I'd like to ask you guys where if I'm off to a good start? Favorite Album: A Ghost Is Born / Yankee HotelSong: Pieholden Suites Also, can anyone fill me in on where the band is right now at this point of their career in terms of sound from the eyes of the hardcore fans? Thanks,Andrew M.

dave41
Broses, I'm in the same boat. Started listening about 2 years ago. Became a fan after first show last December. Check out the vinyl.

rwilson580
Good luck looking for a consensus on this stuff, Andrew. It would be kind of sad if we did all agree, right? Anyway, your opinion is as valid as anybody else's, and that's clear to me with the choices you've made here. I love all Wilco's albums, but YHF and AGiB are 1/2 for me, also. Pieholden Suite is a terrific song, and probably one of the more distinctive ones in their arsenal. Welcome to this elite fraternity! BTW -- I've never been a big DMB fan, but I'm confused by how trendy it's become to put the guy down. He's made a lot of excellent music over the years...there's a whole lot of less interesting music out there. Definitely no need to apologize for that fandom in my book..... Maddie Hope
Welcome to the boards ElBirdos... I haven't picked a "favorite" record, yet, each one has something good and makes it hard to pick just one...My favorite song so far is "Wishful Thinking"... (but oh so many to pick just one favorite.I say you got a good start, as money permits add to your collection, you'll not be disappointed (IMHO)but also get some "live" shows, it is such a treat hearing these songs live vs record... Live shows is what got me hooked before I ever got a studio record, but records are fun too, to hear what the band put together and live shows to show us how to rock n' roll... mountain bed
Welcome, ElBirdos. You will love this place - if you can say anything about Wilco's fanbase it would be that by and large they are extremely knowledgeable about the music. And - no worries about the DMB thing. When I came here about 4 years ago I caught some flack about being a phan of that band with the phunny spelling. But they have their own ongoing thread now!
dave41
Thanks and Thanks. Dave41, do I know you from TDC? I'm Vincent over there and rarely participate in the drama. This place sticks to the music. Nice to see a familiar avatar.
uncool2pillow
This place sticks to the music. Check out the tongue-tied lightning threads. What are your thoughts on God? Obama?

Nice. I like these smileys better. Oh and this should go into the ticket section I'm sure, but I'm attempting to find some tix to the Madison show... seems like a tough ticket though, no? u2roolz
Have you caught the free downloads for Ashes Of American Flags? Or better yet start with the dvd and see if you can still download the mp3's. Also, the official site should have the bonus eps for A Ghost Is Born and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Sky Blue Sky. The Owl & Bear is a great site for live boots. Some (maybe most) feel that Wilco (The Album) was the culmination of the "sound/s" of Wilco. A buffet style if you will. This presumably leaves the door open for a fresh start on the next record. Oh and don't forget to get Mermaid Avenue I & II, if you haven't already.

Thanks,Andrew M. I'm jmacomber16 Ants, I'm still a sucker for 91-99 dmb. Anyways, the St Louis shows are up at owlandbear.com If you need help figuring that site out I or someone else can walk you through it, it is pretty simple. I believe they are either soundboard or FM. If you are a big YHF fan I also recommend finding the demos from owlandbear.
Jesusetc84
my recommendation would be start with A.M. and go up. The evolution from their first to fourth album is just amazing. From a very modest band on A.M., to a great American Band on Being There and Summerteeth to THE ONLY American Band on YHF.
