u2roolz
Congrats to Boston's Daniel Nava, the 4th player in MLB history to smack a grand slam in his first at-bat. And on the first pitch, too! My dad was at this game. He also flew out to Philadelphia a month ago to meet a couple of friends and saw the "1 Hitter" from Daisuke. He certainly has had luck picking games this year. u2roolz
I went to go flip to ESPN (to see the Cubs & White Sox) in between the NBA Championship game and lo and behold I turned it on right as Juan Pierre came into the batter's box and then in one minute he blew Ted Lilly's (a.k.a. Colin Farrell) bid for a No Hitter. Talk about timing! 2010 definitely seems like the "new" Year Of The Pitcher. Edit (for possible trade discussions): I keep hearing that the Yankees & Mets are very interested in Cliff Lee. Dear Mariners, please send Cliff Lee to Citi Field. The White Sox & Diamondbacks appear to be the big sellers with their own seemingly speculated fire sales. AZ: Dan Haren, Adam LaRoche, & Kelly Johnson's names are being tossed around. Haren?! Really?! I guess get some big prospects out of it. Chicago: A.J. Pierzynski, J.J. Putz, Bobby Jenks, & Jake Peavy's names are also being tossed around. Anyone out in Chicago hear anything on this? I heard that Ozzie thinks it's still early to think about trading big pieces. Roy Oswalt: I wish that he'd be traded to the Nationals. I've heard rumors about him being traded to either the Tigers or Phillies. I could see Philadelphia needing another (veteran) arm in their rotation. Mike Lowell trade talks have heated up with the Twins, Angels & Rangers involved. I don't know. I can't picture any team taking on Lowell and having him possibly retire at the end of this season. It's nice that the Red Sox have to pay the majority of his salary ($7.4 million), but still he's a big gamble. MLB Trade Rumors great site

They weren't willing to keep Lee at $9M this year and $15+M next year and beyond, so picking up a $16M pitcher doesn't seem plausible. They claim they traded Lee mostly to keep the prospect cupboard from being barren, so there's incentive to keep young players now. They're in a spot, so there may have to be a more creative trade necessary. Maybe a trade involving Werth for a starter, or something similar. Of course the easiest thing to do would be for the Phils to have J.C. Romero run down to GNC to pick up some performance powder for half the team.

Jeremy Hermida did that too. Pinch hit, no less. He does now. Stanton's a natural RFer. Don't think he's played a game of 1B in his career in the minors thus far. Logan Morrison is our big 1B prospect. Top 20 prospect by Baseball America coming into the season.
Oil Can Boyd
Jeremy Hermida did that too. Pinch hit, no less.Yup, and Nava was only the second guy to hit a grand slam on the very first pitch he'd seen in the majors. The first was Kevin Kouzmanoff, then with the Indians in 2006. Oil Can Boyd
So with Hermida and Kouzmanoff as company, I think the most important thing to do is temper expectations.Exactly. It's not really a predictor of future success. And it's a weird feat. The first guy to do it was in 1898. Then nobody else did it until Hermida in 2005. And two guys have done it since Hermida and they both did it on the very first pitch. I think the Commissioner's Office needs to look into this.
Sir Stewart
So with Hermida and Kouzmanoff as company, I think the most important thing to do is temper expectations. Too late: Nava just won the Boston mayoral seat in a landslide, unseating mayor-for-life Menino in a special election.

Logan Morrison is our big 1B prospect. Top 20 prospect by Baseball America coming into the season.Sorry. My bad. I knew the Marlins had another 1B prospect and I thought Stanton was it, with him being so large and all. It's hard to keep up with all those young Marlins. Conor Jackson has been traded from Arizona to Oakland. And... Chipper Jones is meeting with the Braves brass today and he may announce his "possible" retirement at season's end. It's hard to keep up with all those young Marlins. Nope Stanton's just a big RF. Was supposed to play TE for USC before we signed him. Though when Bill Parcells saw him in Spring Training he said he was "a little wormy" for football. Hence his nickname, the Big Worm.

bobbob1313
Jesus Montero is a good bet to get called up for the Yankees. He's gotta be the top prospect in baseball right now, despite a slow start in AAA. He was generally 3-4 before the season, and everyone else is up.

bobbob1313
Philly likes to be super patient with their prospects. There's a chance he might not see AAA until next year. Though I didn't realize he was in AA for a month or two last year. He'll be in AAA by July, I would think. They need him to be ready to replace Werth.

There are some who believe he should be in AAA, if not Philly.Saw Brown play two weeks ago or so against the Portland Sea Dogs. Tall and thin dude, hits for power. Body type reminded me of Griffey, Jr. Think he had a double and a single, as well as a K. He's going to be good.
Duck-Billed Catechist
I guess the White Sox are not going to be selling off pieces for now because of the inevitable NL run. Nevermind that they are not any closer in the standings (Minny and Detroit get to play the NL as well).

uncool2pillow
Just noticed the Twins scored 5 in the top of the 9th to tie the Phillies. I gave up on that game long ago. Now we're up 13-10 w/ 2 outs in the bottom of the 11th. We needs to play better to create some more separation from the Tigers, they're breathing down our backs.
