That looks right to me.

Enthusiastic crowd tonight in Madison, which makes me happy at a hometown show. And most people (with the exception of most of the first row?) were standing, at least where I could see. It was great hearing "Roses," "Country Disappeared," and "Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway(again)." And "Broken Arrow!" Holy crap. After hoping to hear it ever since the MusiCares tribute, I managed to forget all about it tonight until they launched into it to begin the encore. I was amazed at what they did with the song. I mean ... that's hard! I shouldn't be surprised, though. I was hoping to make it to Michigan tomorrow, but a surprise dose of winter weather for Sunday night into Monday is going to squash those plans. So I'm glad that the one show I could get to on this tour was so much fun.

Oh, Jeff "curling" with his guitar was entertaining too. And Jim Becker was great in "Califo( r)nia Stars."

Hey, everyone. I was there tonight, and I taped the show. Got Califone too. I wasn't able to bring my open gear because of the venue, so the quality's not as good, but it still sounds real nice. A little addition to the setlist, I would say the first song of the encore was "Mr. Soul tease > Broken Arrow" as they played a verse of Mr. Soul before going into Broken Arrow. I'll track and post my show to bt.etree in the next few days. I don't know how good the sbd/webcast sounds, maybe someone wants to make a matrix.

excuse my hairsplitting, but the mr.soul-intro is a part of neil youngs broken arrow, maybe a good day for digging out decades or so...(but don´t let it bring you down). i´m quite sure you had a great time over there in wisconsin last night, i hope wilco will preserve this encore for further notice during the year.

b.t.w. is there anyone able and willing to post the eindvoven-show from november 09??? that´d be great!!

I am thrilled to see they did When the Roses Bloom Again!!!

Now I know I have a good shot at seeing it done in Hamilton!

My fingers are crossed!!!

Jeff said it was the most commonly requested song from the website ("so at least 23 of you should be happy.") So tell your friends in Hamilton to hit the website and vote.

The sixty-something wine-sipping couple behind me obviously didn't know the song, as they talked loudly through the entire thing (as they did for much of the show.)

A solid show, but nothing transcendental (maybe I've seen them too many times.) But they're playing so well that even an average show is pretty terrific. They're definitely a well-oiled machine, in both a good and bad way. I was especially happy with "Country Disappeared", "nothingsever", and "Broken Arrow", which seemed to baffle most of the folks near me in the first few rows.

Califone was good -- wish they would've started at 7:15 so they could've played a bit more.

It was a fun night in Madison. The last time they played the Overture, it was a "sit or stand?" crowd, but last night everyone seemed ready to stand. Jeff did put Madison on the spot for not making Wilco an honorary band of the city the way the mayor did in Duluth. Maybe the the majority of the front row was staging a sit-in until Mayor Dave arrived? I thought that being in the first few rows would guarantee I'd be in the heart of the "standing crowd," so it was funny that the opposite was true. Good view for me, though.

Broken Arrow was a treat. (Misunderstood was in its place on the printed setlist, and while I requested Misunderstood online, I'm glad they swapped it out for Broken Arrow.) Also Sonny Feeling, Nothingsever..., Theologians, and Roses Bloom were all fantastic. Indy, were you front right? I had a handful of loud talkers behind me as well, and they really screwed with my enjoyment of one of my favorites (Country Disappeared). Overall, though, I was in a pretty respectful area.

No rainbow SG tonight, sadly. But there was a new green guitar--pretty! (That is an official merit of a guitar, right? "Pretty!")

Not necessarily true. He's played Mr. Soul and Broken Arrow by themselves many times. But, you're right, that's how it is on the album. I think it's important to specify for a Wilco show, but that's just me.

A lot of people are not understanding that Broken Arrow starts out with a bit of Mr. Soul. I'm not all that surprised, as I don't expect more recent Wilco fans to be familiar with Buffalo Springfield. (What I mean by that, is the people who did not get here from the Uncle Tupelo-Alt. Country time period.)

I'm not familiar with how many times Neil has played the song solo, but I doubt it has ever been played as recorded until Wilco did it.

I audio taped as well. They allowed me to bring my taping bag and stand in. I setup at the end of the 5th row but missed the first minute or so because I didn't know they would take the stage that early. Where were you sitting?

Looking forward to hearing some of these recordings. This place is suppose to have pretty awesome acoustics. They were right. 2nd show for me at the Overture, same section, but this time dead center in the mezz first row. Loved the show. Sounded amazing. They came to rock and I was totally blown away. Haven't seen them in two years, so it was a nice break. Great hearing new songs. I think we heard every song but 3 of them. I have to check the setlist above again. I thought the audience was perfect around me. We sat, some stood towards the middle/end of the show.

Totally blown away. I think they played for a little bit over 2 hours total. Opening band was from Chicago too I think. They were AMAZING. Never heard them before but now I need to hear more. I love that sound. Kind of had this Martin, Medeski and Wood feel to it. Thanks Wilco for a great show!!

Last night was probably my favorite Wilco show I've ever seen.

As a little bit of back-story, I was attending the show with my ex (of 1 week after dating for 13 months) and it was the first time we saw each other since the break-up. We bought the tickets way back when and I encouraged him to come, as it was his first Wilco show. He really started to get into the band after I was playing the new album all summer and going on a bender of learning as many Wilco songs on guitar as possible. It could have set up an explosive situation last night, but we focused on the music and the blistering performance in front of us.

I have been seeing Wilco live since 2004 (my first show was the day the Red Sox finally ended their drought) and have made a point to catch them on every tour possible. However, I have been unemployed since June and one of the first things I cut from my budget were concerts and two or three day excursions to see shows. I had not been able to witness the new songs live until last night; the psychological torture that is Bull Black Nova hit me deep. But many of the songs I have heard so many times hit a new level last night.

I never realized how many of Wilco's songs involve loss and change--usually pertaining to love. Having my first love next to me through those songs broke me up and I repeatedly had to dig deep to hold back tears. My ex and I had acknowledged how some songs would be difficult to hear standing next to each other, but I did not expect so many random lines to produce soul wounds. IATTBYH was rough, and I wanted to turn to him and scream the chorus. The end of One Wing made me want to leave the show because I knew I would not be seeing him for a long time after last night. ALTWYS reminded me of all the tearful fights/discussions we had on my bed toward the end. And I promised to keep my eyes on the stage through ITMWLY earlier in the week, but again, I really wanted to serenade him. If my request for Say You Miss Me was granted, it might have proven too much for me.

There were many more cathartic moments than I anticipated too. The last three weeks of my life have been full of changes that are designed to improve how I live, and I do not think I have ever yelled "ANYMORE!" louder at the end of A Shot in the Arm. Piggybacking on that sentiment, Nothing'sever... is going to become a personal anthem of mine over the next month. Hate it Here pretty much describes to perfection how I have felt over the last week, sitting in my apartment (and how I'm striving for the acceptance of the fact that I will be without him for a while). Walken reaffirmed my love, and I think I did turn to him at some point and sing at him. However, the highlight of the night for me was Kingpin. As soon as I saw Jeff's pale yellow, open-G Telecaster, I knew I was going to scream louder than anyone else at the show. Releasing all the bile and frustration and confusion and all other emotions I was feeling through the show in a primal force was the best medicine. My other friend jumped the first time I screamed--I think he never thought I was capable of making so much noise.

The experience was so incredible and, in all honesty, life-altering. It gave me the strength and courage to make it through the next couple of weeks, no matter how rough they could be. I am floored how moved I was and to the extremes I felt at the beginning and end of the show, considering how many times I have heard/seen these songs.

Tamela, Rob, Brianne, and Paul--I'm sorry I was a little non-social before and after the show. It was great seeing all of you again and I hope it is a smaller span of time before we see each other next. I hope you can understand that I was a little distracted last night.

I cannot wait for the recording(s) to pop up. It will be one hell of a memento of a night of intense personal growth.

Dang, I must've gotten the wrong usher, he made me check my gear bag. I was in row R in the orchestra section, on the left side. I was just under the first balcony, and I can tell the distance on the recording. But, if this were any other venue, my recording would be complete garbage. Once the soundguys cleaned it up by the third song, it was great. I'll see if there's any little bit of EQing I can do, which I think will bring out a lot.

Hey Matt - not a problem at all. I didn't even think about it. Obviously I had no idea anything was up, and I'm sorry to hear it ... but I'm glad the show was such a great experience for you. Those songs sure do have a way of hitting you at the right time.

I also wanted to add that I enjoyed the "former Wilco opening bands" mix during the break between sets. ;)

I'm just saying that all the times I've heard Neil Young play Broken Arrow live, it hasn't had the Mr. Soul intro on it. I know it's on the studio version. I'm a huge Neil Young fan, so don't worry about that.

Yes, but Mr. Soul tease>Broken Arrow is not correct.

Great great show. Can't wait to hear the recordings.

Flew in from Boulder, CO with my son, so we could do the Wisconsin/Madison college tour. He is a music lover who has gone head over heels into Wilco in the past few months. We had 3rd row seats right in front of Nel. View/venue was outstanding, sound that close was so-so (we basically got the Nels monitor mix). No complaints, though. Long show, great song selection (I missed "Side with the Seeds" and he missed "Spiders"), but was really glad to catch the "Broken Arrow." Loved the Tweedy guitar curling and Nels using an egg beater on one of the encores. Hadn't seen a Casino Queen or Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway (again) in years.

Now I have to wait for Aspen. My son loved it and said he's already psyched to see them again. I told him one benefit of attending Wisconsin is he'll get to see Wilco regularly (the campus was nice too).
