LouieB
I would bug Wilco's management. Clearly booking agents in Spain, Scandanavia, the UK, other parts of the world know how to get them there. No reason the French shouldn't get some Wilco.LouieB
RaspberryJam
I will sign the petition just out of appreciation of it's awesomeness. And I'm a fan of french food and wine. But not french pop music. That stuff is just AWFUL. So they really need Wilco.
victor79
I'm with you Auref. Yeah since early SBS Tour they avoid France each time they're touring western Europe. I don't know why since last time the Bataclan (capacity: 2,000) was sold out. Btw Auref, do I know you?

If one of you have the adress of one man of wilco, please give me the adress and we gonna send them some good french food.I will sign. I love France. One of my favorite memories was canoeing down the Dordogne. We stayed in Baynac. The cave paintings in Font de Gaume, so lucky to have seen them. Paris has never disappointed but we love the villages. I have an address of 'one man of Wilco' for you to send the French food. I can private message it to you. (I must admit that, though not a member of the band, I am certainly a 'man of Wilco'! )

Doug C
Auref, I must apologize. Your English far exceeds my French but the language barrier has caused a misunderstanding. I do not know Wilco and have no influnce. I was just trying to get some French food! Maybe we will meet one day. I envy you that you get to visit your grandparents farm. Wilco should play in France. If you organized the French Wilco fans like the French labor unions are, Wilco would come to France. It seems that I am always in France during a rail strike!

Don't worry I just hate you for the rest of your day But, are you american, in france we don't know much about american food, we know only fast food. Is there a good food in this big country ?I believe real american food must be good too. We can make a trade. french food vs American food.
RaspberryJam
hmmm. New England clam chowder isn't so bad. A good bacon cheeseburger can be pretty nice, if done well. Not well done. But giving it more thought I'm not sure either of them can hold a candle to cassoulet or crepes
SeattleC
Auref, Based on the tour schedule, it looks like May 26th or 27th were just made for playing in France. It's right between Denmark and Spain - perfect.... I have officially signed your petition, and will toast to your luck with a good Rhone wine later on in the evening. No Dordogne foie gras here though I'm afraid....

fortuleo
Well I might have some sort of an explanation. In recent years, I think they never played outside Paris. Most of the shows were excellent, one (at a venue called the Maroquinerie) was absolutely outstanding. One of the issues might be that a large part of the audience consisted in american people. Each time, Jeff did a little chatter routine like "hey, are there americans here tonight" and the response was always very loud, by far out-staging the 'local's' response. It might well be that the band thought "oh well, we like to play for americans, but isn't it what we do every other night of the year ? ».Secondly, Jeff once said that it was kind of hard for them not to lose money when they play in France, because of some tax regulation. Seems like most of the time, the venues are not so big, and the deals they get from promoters aren't good enough to balance this tax problem. Finally, the fact is they just DON'T SELL shit in France, no matter how hard they try (or maybe they should try and go all around the country to 'work' the crowds, but they would lose even more money, wouldn't they ?). I don't know why it is so, but it is : even when they got good press, it didn't change anything, they never broke through over here. Nobody seems to care, except for a bunch of us. You have to remember that the whole 'americana' movement had a hard time in this country back in the nineties. Bands like the Jayhawks, Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, Whiskeytown, Steve Earle et all never made much of an impression. We prefered britpop, what are you gonna do ? It changed recently, but a little too late, and the result is that Wilco only has the reputation of being this "indy, quirky, post rock experimental krautrock weird sounding proto-prog band", which, I believe, DOES NOT seem very appealing to french record buyers.Last november, they had a date in London and, two day later, a date in Brussels, Belgium. Between the two shows, they had a night off. Well, you need to know that the Eurostar brings you from London to Paris in two hours time. Then, Paris-Brussels by train is like 1h30. I'm sure they left this date free to try and secure a deal to play in Paris. Ultimately, nothing happened. They must have taken a direct plane from London to Brussels…
samuel70
Well I might have some sort of an explanation. That is a very plausible explanation Fortuleo (especially the one about taxes which I've heard before). Not to stick the knife in deeper, but within the last 2 tours the band played my tiny homeland of Belgium 5 (five!) times. And Brussels is only 1h20 minutes away from Paris. My advice to Auref for next time is to book some train tickets to Belgium and join the numerous lucky Belgian fans . Oh...and instead of raving about their food and wines, what Wilco needs from France are people of good taste in music buying their records . (Funnily enough, my first Wilco live experience was at the Elysee Montmartre in Paris...)
pillowy star
And they play Duesseldorf which is like 20 train minutes away from Cologne aka TGV station
Auref
fortuleo you've got a point the law in france made really hard to an good group from another country of france to have a good radio airplay. In france a law say you must play a pourcentage of song in french. And like you know maybe french music is not super and the better french musicians sing in english for having an international carrer. So is hard for us please make a prayer for us. I thing the best singer in french stay raphael but is not an internationnal star.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHJoY0oSD_YIt's why Saibu the future best french band have got some problem to be star. Yeah I make some ad But come back to Wilco I thinck i gonna cry new european date but zero for france It's really hard. I Pray for a date between England and germany, but that seems hard. A good thing for Wilco is to make a french tv show called Taratata programmer radio heard really often this show you can see some video like Charlotte Gainsbourg on the website Charlotte Gainsbourg at Taratata I think i gonna make a travel any body can host me in europe I'm a really cool french. I can learn you some french tricks and i came with the food
