the band was really alive tonight

they literally played nonstop amazing music the entire evening...

 

such a great show

 

the venue holds about 1900 and there were barely any seats open (like 3-4 every section of a few hundred)

- i had heard pre-show from one of the crew members that there were "about 30 tickets remaining an hour before the show" due to the band not using all of their "comps"

- the venue was like straight up & down, people were really high, off of the ground

- like i presumed, the venue was an extremely proper hall.... though they let the alcohol flow freely which was great

-- standing was nearly a crime in the right balcony... i was just dancing in the back behind the last row of the 1st balcony, i couldn't stand to stay in my seat for this awesome performance

--- the local production company (opus one) had this one dbag security guard enforcing no reentry rules like it was the most important thing on earth... i saw 2 couples get separated because 1 had their ticket stubbed torn already, and i wasnt allowed to go back outside after i went in almost an hour before the show either...

Jeff attempted to field questions ... that was hilarious

- I asked about working with Bob Weir in the future, and he responded if I asked him to smoke a bowl :rofl

I was very glad I was able to get a ticket & get into this fantastic show & genuinely awesome performance

then at some point, maybe even twice, conversation covered pittsburgh & philadelphia sports. that was funny too.

 

 

- he also challenged the crowd to sing better and more than last night . LOL

Great fucking show!

I totally expected this to be low key - Sunday night - at a fucking library. I partied this up more than I ever could have imagined for a Sunday at the Carnegie. Wifey and I were passing the one-hitter around on the second floor walk-around terrace. I actually got the last drink and the bar. Then we moved directly up front and I got called out for my homemade shirt of a Latrobe concert picture. Just great on every level. Pronouncing Carnegie correctly - I always considered that our Pittsburgh Fuck You! to NY.

Glenn accidentally launched into "You Never Know" one song too early. Oops! Also, nice spotlights for the intros.

 

It was wonderful hearing "More Like the Moon" again - the sound was so crisp in the theater compared to Montclair [i still love you, Wellmont! call me!] it was almost like hearing it for the first time. Same with "When You Wake Up Feeling Old." "On & On & On" was a welcome surprise. I can't remember the last time I heard it. When I saw the song about to begin with no guitar for Jeff, I just thought it seemed awfully early for "Hummingbird." I forget how powerful that song can be live, especially the buildup toward the end.

 

I'm very glad I was able to see two weekends of shows on this tour. It's amazing how quickly we adjusted to these superconcerts - 38 songs? Unique choices nearly every night? Intimate middle set? What, this doesn't happen all the time?

On and On and On!!! wow, just wow. Plus 3 AM tracks and More Like the Moon, quite a way to send off the Evening with shows. I don't think we'll see these kinds of shows for a long, long time, if ever again. It was good to see them open up their catalogue a little bit, and play songs that are usually rarities, and others that haven't been played in a while. Hopefully they bring some of those songs back. Songs like Laminated Cat, Airline to Heaven, More Like the Moon, Someday Some Morning Sometime, Dreamer in My Dreams, and some others that im probably missing. Hopefully those will reappear more frequently in the regular shows from now on.

great great show, probably the best of the 5 times I've seen them. girlfriend was super-impressed, so it's legit.

 

i was, however, about to sock the drunk fat guy behind me who kept yelling "YESS SIRRR!!!!" every 2 seconds, clapping randomly during quiet parts, and booing when Jeff talked. He left right after the dinner giveaways....thank fuck

Glad you had a good time, but you must have smoked some seriously high-quality product if you thought they actually gave away a dinette set. "The Price Is Right" theme was played, but to my knowledge, Wilco shows haven't turned into game shows yet. (I believe that a couple of the dinners they gave away were for a place called Dinette. )

 

Nice to get a couple of nuggets, as always. Can't remember the last time I'd heard "On and On and On," and it's definitely a song that's more powerful in the live setting. Being able to hear the details in "More Like The Moon" and the segue from "Someday, Some Morning, Sometime" into "Laminated Cat" was awesome. And of course, any show with some Summerteeth deep cuts like "Candyfloss" and "When You Wake Up Feeling Old" is a good one in my book.

 

Jeff had some pretty golden banter as the show went on as well. When some guy yelled out, "I love you Jeff," Jeff replied, "I love you, too." Jeff then said something like "That's probably not how you meant it, right?" and the guy replied with something like, "However you want it, man." Jeff said, "I want it to be at a distance...unrequited." Haha!

 

Then after "When You Wake Up Feeling Old," he recycled his bit about how he thinks of that song when people say Wilco has lost their edge. "We've always been pussies," Jeff said.

 

And one last bit of banter that I noted: Jeff: "This might be the best show we've ever played." Crowd cheers loudly. Jeff: "I kind of doubt it."

 

(Oh, and the shoes and guitar report for tonight was brown oxfords and the rainbow SG came out for the encore. No other unusual guitar appearances, though.)

 

All in all, what a fabulous run of shows this was! Got to hear so many different songs and see so many familiar faces. Big Star covers, one of my favorite non-Wilco Wilco songs (Laminated Cat), stripped-down arrangements, even a rave or two! So kudos to the band -- and the hardest-working road crew in the business -- for pulling off this run and giving us all so many moments to remember.

Great show - definitely worth the trip over. Picked up Wendy on the way and got here in the late pm.

 

The banter was priceless - loved the comment about how the "next song is about we've felt in the morning after these shows." People yelled various songs, including "I Must be High" Instead they launched into "When You Wake Up". Definitely a laugh from the audience.

 

Hightlights for me were Spiders (tears because the sound was just so fine and sweet) and Laminated Cat, plus both of my favorite songs off AM. It was my first time hearing More than the Moon, and hopefully not the last

 

So all in all, just a stellar show. The sound started out a little muddy and the band took a few songs to loosen up, but the middle and the end more than made up for it.I was one of the standers, but no one hassled me for it. I think everyone sat for the acoustic set, and my feet got a needed rest Just so so so glad I got to see them this round. And I hope that this will NOT be the last of this format.

 

Also, thanks Paul for the shoe report. I like the oxfords - with ties no less. Did you notice the red socks I just like he is changing it up a bit and wearing some stylish kicks. He's finally growing up

 

More later. The show taped by at least one taper, but could be a while before we see it.

Great show! One of my top 5 ever!

Up in the second balcony the sound wasn't great but it was serviceable.

I loved when Jeff put a fan in his place who yelled "Flyers suck", referring to the hockey team from Philly.

Jeff replied "Sports Suck"!

We had a pair of drunken "talkers" next to us. After the sixth song I kindly asked them to chill, they did for a bit, then resumed.

When Jeff admonished people for talking they finally put a lid on it.

By the way Dinette is a local establishment. Pizza, Wine etc.. Never been, but gonna try to check it out.

I'm still trying to put my thoughts together after last night. I'll just say it was incredible. Did not disappoint. I don't think I could have had more fun.

So worth the 24 hour trip. To all the fine people of Pittsburgh, you have a very very nice city. The Warhol is a destination museum, the hotcakes at Pamela's could not be beat, the Pitt/Melon campus was nice and active on such a lovely spring night, high grades all around.

 

Now for the reason I came to your lovely city, the acoustic set could have gone on all night. In various posts about the different shows people have mentioned how they thought the set dragged a bit, I strongly disagree. Spiders was worth the trip alone but Laminated Cat really stood out. It was full sounding, powerful, and had some space for a jam. Following that with Feeling Old, Forget the Flowers, War on War, just wow. I also thought that Airline had a little extra umph coming out of the acoustic. On and On was exceptionally emotional last night, there was an older man sitting in the front row right in front of Jeff, I do not think it was his father, but maybe a relative he was signing to? No matter, Jeff really nailed it. From my spot (side left) the sound was perfect. The big speakers were angled more towards the center so I could really pick up on the individual playing. I loved John playing the stand up bass, and to be on Nels side is always a treat.

 

Also a thank you to the girls who came down my aisle and got everyone standing and dancing, sometimes a section just needs a push and the dancing girls provided just that.

i know in the balconies is was an all or none kind of thing, which was reason enough for me to go into the back aisle....

Hi, I'm a new registrant -- great site you have here. Drove from Akron to Pittsburgh (yet again) to see Wilco. Of the four times, this was definitely the best show. (Remember Point Park, when "Ghost" came out? It was one of the first shows with this lineup, and it's amazing how they've developed since then.) The sound on the lower level at Carnegie was outstanding.

 

I had never recorded a show before, but I entered the fray with a new digital recorder last night. I tried to familiarize myself with the unit's operation before heading to PA. When showtime began (in the dark), I hit record, and thought we were rolling. I was supposed to hit it twice....DOH! Long story short, I got everything from Passenger Side until the end. Sounds good too! I opted to record as WAV, to capture the fullest range of freqencies, and I'll convert to mp3. My question: should I bother uploading half of a show?

 

Finally, thanks, Pittsburgh, for being so Wilco-friendly. Although it makes for a long day and night, I always enjoy visiting the city to see the best rock show in the biz.

Yes...you should always upload what you have if you usually upload your shows.

 

I did a green day show last year and my battery ran out...only had the 1st 45 minutes and I uploaded....no one ever uploaded the full show.

Went to Boston and 3 others..

In my humble opinion.

Of the Four Shows in NE; the Boston Audience followed closely by Harford were Very Lively

 

Lupos closely behind both of those, and then there is Concord well it was low key but had its Moments of Magic!Worth the Drive for us.

 

Probably a bit hokey but I put up an Appreciation Thread* for this Tour I just had such a Great time sharing w/ Friends /turning on my Late Teen and Early 20 y/o Kids to this Marvelous Band. So add to that* and maybe just maybe this Band will Decide to Drop openers from this point on.

I had seats right in front of the soundboard, directly in the middle, and I stood the entire night because I realized I wouldn't be blocking anyones view. It was a great view of the band when every sat down.

Great show. I was on the 1st balcony not far from 'pitt hookah' the thread starter.

 

A couple d-bags were present yelling inappropriate things at inappropriate times. "Shawn thinks you're gay" exclaimed one obviously drug addled degenerate (who went on to clap loudly and randomly throughout the night). I'm a proud Pittsburgh native and he is not representative of our overall crowd for you non-locals that drove in for the show.

 

This is the first show I've caught on this tour (7th overall) and it was the best so far I think. Stage wise I loved the tublar computer controlled incandescent lighting. The lamps during the semi acoustic set were also wonderful.

 

My favorite banter moment was when Jeff read the Dinette gift certificate winner (awesome place BTW) and the song he requested on the website. "....and the song you choose was Impossible Germany......great choice.....like we weren't playing that anyways" or something to that effect.
