Guest Ordinary Beehive
I like them both a whole lot.
Dude
Out of curiosity, why these two songs in particular?
LouisvilleGreg
seems like a totally random choice of songs to pit against eachother. I really really like "Im Always In Love," especially the real uptempo rock version of it, but "Monday" was an early favortie for me and it always makes my night when they play it live, so it gets my nod. choo-choo-charlie
Both of these are tunes that get a little extra volume when I hear them. I love, love, love the version of "I'm Always in Love" in the IATTBYH film. I have a hard time comparing the two, though. If you go w/studio versions, one is a guitar-heavy track and the other is a keyboard-heavy track. Both could be classified as power-pop, for sure, but one's more alt-countryish and the other is more Beatles-ish. I dunno. I'm gonna go with "I'm Always in Love," because it's twice as beautiful in the solo setting.
Little Louis
yeah, I'm confused about this match up as well. Regardless, Monday gets lost for me in the emotional turbulence of BT and Always in Love is easily in my Top Ten.
peteboiler
Depends on my mood, but since I will choose just one, it would have to be MONDAY. Bob
radiatortunes
I love, love, love the version of "I'm Always in Love" in the IATTBYH film. This! "I'm Always in Love" is easily in my top 20. "Monday" is nowhere close.
Sonny
" . . . . Love" is all you (& I) need. Well, maybe not ALL but it gets my vote & I hope they start playing it live more.
TCP
I like I'm Always In Love when it's played like it is in the film "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart".
choo-choo-charlie
Let's make it even more interesting: I'm Always in Love in 1999 or now? vs. Monday in 1997 or now? [interchangeable]

Guest Speed Racer
I agree with that succession entirely. The 2000s-era revamp of I'm Always in Love is the best full-band version of that song, period. The only reason why today's Monday is better than the Monday of yesteryear is that Jay's vocals were ALWAYS too high in the mix - ALWAYS.
spongebob
There should be an option to choose both. I went with IAIL, but Monday is one of my favorites from the catalog as well. Out of curiosity, why these two? P.S. Do you think the background vocals on IAIL were meant to sound like "smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot"? And if this has been addressed in another thread, I'm sure Analogue Man will direct me.
Guest Speed Racer
P.S. Do you think the background vocals on IAIL were meant to sound like "smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot, smoke pot"? They weren't "meant to sound like," they are. In some instances, they've changed it to "don't smoke pot," "don't smoke," or a few other variations I'm forgetting off-hand. John said in an interview once that it was an homage to the Beatles "hidden lyrics" of yore.

Sounds like you really know your Wilco.
smells like flowers
Wow, definitely two of my favorite Wilco songs. Love the southern rockishness of Monday. Whistle and all (molly hatchett, anyone?). But the opening line "Why, I wonder, is my heart full of holes" gets me every time. I'm riding the fence on this one! dagwave
Curious: Has anyone ever done a march madness style wilco song bracket tournament? We could seed the wilco songs in four differnt #1-16 brackets (Live/ Bsides/ Electric/ acoustic????? off the top of my head) and then vote it out. a mammoth concept, of course, i'm just an idea guy, not sure how we could actually pull it off.. Moss
I went with IAIL for listening but Monday is more fun to play with a band. One of the few I could talk my band members into playing (so far).
spongebob
Is quoting considered snarky? I wasn't trying to be. My bad. The quotation gave you answer a passive aggressive tone. I just wanted to know if I was hearing something that was or was not there. No worries, and I am sorry if I misread your intentions.
barbkm
How about Outta Site? I lean more towards IAIL -- especially the acoustic version which has more of a yearn to it.
