Lammycat
And I don't stare at it. I look at it. There is a difference. I'm more casual about it.Ah. Like the casual coffee drinker, likely.....
Ghost of Electricity
if i was already half-awake, could i close one eye and stare into said lightbulb in order to wake up completely? and why doesn't it work in reverse- when i stare into the darkness i should immediately fall asleep. on the contrary, the existential shiver down my spine is insomniacal and occasionally gives me one of those headaches everyone is talking about
Guest Speed Racer
I have terrible vision in my left eye, and near-perfect vision in my right eye. I think it's because I hold my coffee cup in my right hand more often than not.
u2roolz
Bare bulb? That's why I don't stare at it. I find it rather rude.
ikol
How about sideways glancing? Does that work?

Or was it the other way around?
Ghost of Electricity
if you wear sunglasses in order to conceal the fact that you are staring at the naked bulb, does it diminish the effect? and on a related note, what kind of factor does wattage play? does a 100 watt bulb wake you up more than a 60 watt bulb? u2roolz
if you wear sunglasses in order to conceal the fact that you are staring at the naked bulb, does it diminish the effect? No. It feels the longing in my eyes.
u2roolz
How about sideways glancing? Does that work? Nope, but it is a glance.I don't do this to my bathroom lights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Iid0D2R74&feature=player_embedded

lamradio
I'm on my third cup of the day, and it's not just any cup.. Tall, 16 oz cup.
calvino
Oh yes. Primes the beans - the discernable change in flavor improvement is much greater than the difference between mp3 and lossless. How long do you prime your beans? Do you use a little the same boiled water that you will eventually pour in to make your cup? Thanks.

Sir Stewart
That's nice. In personal coffee news, I've been addicted to my French Press for the past three/four months straight. My autodrip machine is lonely.

Moss
French Presses are awesome. Using a French Press reminds me of what Seinfeld said: You are "having coffee" not "drinking coffee". "I'm not leaving yet, I'm still having my coffee!"

"I'm not leaving yet, I'm still having my coffee!" "I'm finishing my coffee" But yeah, french presses are awesome indeed. This thread converted me and it's all I use now... It's definitely more flavorful, no more filters, actually easier/quicker than a coffee maker, and it takes up a lot less counter space.
welch79
just read this thread...somehow missed it. timely too, because on holidays (i'm on spring break), i use the bodum french press, and i've been using mine all week! co-winky. i buy whole beans from somewhere in latin america (i like the volcanic soil acidity), grind them at home and brew with a pinch of salt. i did learn from this thread (and will try tomorrow morning) to prep the french press with a bit of hot water before adding the ground coffee. i currently use an electric grinder, but i want a hand grinder. anybody have any experience with a hand grinder (for coffee)? gogo
Damn, some of you people are hard core. I drink decaf from the coffee bar in the lobby, with non-fat milk and a couple of sweet-n-lows. Although for the past month or so, I've been off coffee entirely, switched to green tea (mostly because I'm trying to consume less milk and sweet-n-low!). Although, I am planning to indulge in a few cups of real, full-caff, during my vacation in a couple of weeks.
