Sweet Papa Crimbo
The new gold standard for covers. John takes this NIN song, turns it inside, invests it with a different sensibility and makes an unforgettable song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clq01TXQR0s

Shakespeare In The Alley
QOTSA have done some really cool covers of bands you wouldn't necessarily expect them to cover. This has always been my personal favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z68SxtmSzP4
parisisstale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8GhYm44BXE Besides screwing up the lyrics I love John McCauley doing Westerberg. He gets the lyrics straight on the Middle Brother album.

I recently posted another version of that cover on the westerberg forum; this one is great. Really interested in seeing where middle brother goes; love the underlying bands, so you kind of root for them but hope they're not doing *too* well.
