sergio
I saw the set from Montgomery and I new the Mobile show was going to rock and it did. I am completely in ah of this band. I have been watching this band live since the AM days at First Avenue but I am sad to say that I am done with Wilco. It is not because of the band. They have just gotten better over time. I even brought my brother to the show who isn't a follower of Wilco and he couldn't believe what he has been missing out on. I am saying goodbye because of a few pampas Wilco fans. I stood up to rock during the show, like you should during a rock concert and few fans behind me threw things at me because I was standing up. I couldn't believe it so I sat down for the rest of the concert while all the other people started to stand up. This is my second show in Mobile and the first show was even worse because nobody stood up. The only time I have thrown things at people is in a snow ball fight. I can't believe that people have the nerve to throw things at other people who are standing up at a rock concert. This band got its start by playing to crowds that stood the whole time. I have watched Wilco many times (First Avenue, The Orpheam in Minneapolis and The University of Montana Ballroom) and I have stood the whole time. I can't just sit and watch this band while they rock the cowbell so I will say goodbye to Wilco because of a few pampas fans that would rather text than stand up at a rock concert. How much did they pay to stare at the back of your shirt, out of curiosity?

So if you seen the band many times then you know the shows in Mobile were off according to your earlier expierences....maybe it was just the crowd or venue thing. People rock out to Wilco here in NYC, NJ and I am sure wherever else..I have seen Wilco a dozen or so times since 1997 and haven't had any problems with the fans...yet. Guest Speed Racer
What are "pampas fans"? Probably the kind who say hello to Wilco.

Moss
What are "pampas fans"? Apparently fans from the fertile south american lowlands. I admire the journey they took to get to the show.
bleedorange
Apparently fans from the fertile south american lowlands. I admire the journey they took to get to the show. There is also the town of Pampa in the Texas panhandle. I was confused, though, that there would be that many Pampans in Mobile for a show.
i'm only sleeping
Did the 'pampas' fans first educately ask you to stand sit?Note: maybe, coming from the Pampa, they were trying to play 'gaucho throwing bolas', as Darwin described in his Beagle book...
jff
I can sympathize. I've been surrounded by obnoxious twits at Wilco concerts many times. I usually have better luck at Wilco shows when I leave Atlanta to see them.

ckc
Screw the theaters and the seats. Wilco must only play places like UIC Pavilion with a clear floor. Those old, tired, bored Wilco fans can sit their asses down in the seats of the arena. Those fans that like to stand in the back, can shift around as they need to. Those that like to stand and boogie in the front, can do so without bothering anyone. Wilco, playing these uptight theaters with seats is silly. You fans want to rock. LouieB
Okay fine, except more and more Wilco fans are getting tired and old. It would be nice if everyone got on their feet for shows, but sometimes it just doesn't work like that, so being a jerk and standing just because you want to when others don't isn't really nice either. Dance in your seat or walk to the back and stand there if you are bugging folks. LouieB
bleedorange
Maybe I'm just getting old, but my days of wanting to stand up and "RAWK" are over.
LouieB
Maybe I'm just getting old, but my days of wanting to stand up and "RAWK" are over. And frankly at this point not all of Wilco's music is stand up and rock kind of material anyway. LouieB
ckc
That's why hockey arenas are perfect for Wilco. Or places like the Riv. Where you have standing in the front and sets on the side/back/balcony. Super serve the in boogie-ers, the standers, and the sitters. I usually like to stand in the back, but love being able to move around at the Riv or Vic, or even UIC. I hated the shows at the Aud, because when I stood up it was always earlier than the people behind me and if you tried to move around that place, the ushers guided you back to your seat. Hockey arenas, that's the solution!
Guest Speed Racer
Why should people who sit be punished with a terrible view?

Guest Speed Racer
The day I feel too old to stand through a rock concert is the day I stop going to rock concerts. ...and start going to Wilco concerts? I first saw Wilco in 2004, and there was hardly anything to rock about back then. Not to say it wasn't an excellent show (btw OT, probably the same Orpheum Theater show(s) as you), but there was nothing to stand up about.
bleedorange
The day I feel too old to stand through a rock concert is the day I stop going to rock concerts. Why? You would no longer like live music?
tinnitus photography
ah, the age-old question of sitting and standing. when the music rocks, stand. when it's quiet and introspective, sit. the problem is, everyone's got a different calibration curve to their rock meter.
Reedo
I think he's got a point. Maybe it's debatable whether he should have been standing or not, but the fact that some assholes threw something at him, rather than politely asking him to sit is beyond me.
