choo-choo-charlie
Not that I should be shocked, but are we really judging new Wilco material based on sub-par fan footage from a festival? C'mon people. Try not to bash an album that hasn't even been released yet.
Guest Speed Racer
"Get Well Soon Everybody" sounds self-righteous, smarmy and condescending. "The Whole Love" might still be an album of self-righteous, smarmy, condescending music, but I prefer when an album doesn't tip it's hand on the front-end.
bleedorange
Put me in the camp that thinks The Whole Love is infinitely better than Get Well Soon Everybody.
cryptique
Put me in the camp that thinks The Whole Love is infinitely better than Get Well Soon Everybody. They're both pretty awful, but you're right that TWL is infinitely better.
bleedorange
They're both pretty awful, but you're right that TWL is infinitely better. That's a good point. I'm not crazy about The Whole Love either, but I would have been embarrassed for the band if they had named it Get Well Soon Everybody.
lamradio
I stand by my point that album titles are irrelevant. Do they really matter? What's burned on that disc is what matters to me.

Album titles are like wallpaper: they don't matter unless they are mind-blowingly and embarrasingly awful.

But it's one of the few things we have to argue about right now. Well, that and some mediocre footage of the first time they played some songs from it live.

Ghost of Electricity
Fair, but in an album title, I want unique sounding groups of words. The Whole Love is meaningful, but I think it's too bland to be a really great album title. Works as a song title, but it's just not at all striking as an album title. Personal taste, obviously.I too would go with unique over bland and meaningful. I also would rather have a great album with a bland title than a bland album with a great title. alecrothman
I like Born Alone too, but Dawned on me and Standing O are pretty...well... unexciting in my opinion. Standing O didn't sound great to me, but Dawned on Me, from five rows back, blew me away. The quality on the YouTube video that surfaced wasn't that great, but I thought it sounded awesome. Reminds me of some of their older stuff. Also, even though the vids are blocked, you can d/l MP3 versions of Born Alone and Dawned on Me from the festival here: http://www.youaintnopicasso.com/2011/06/27/mp3-wilco-debut-two-new-songs-live-dawned-on-me-born-alone/ As for the title, I'm kind of indifferent but did prefer Get Well Soon Everybody. I think "The Whole Love" is meaningful and unique.. Maybe the album will be as well.

Ghost of Electricity
I think a lot of the new record will depend on the production. I remember hearing an early live version of "You never know" and digging it because of the driving, "I'm waiting for my man" style piano. Then the record came out and the piano was as flacid as a septuagenarian who'd drunk too much whiskey and forgotten to take his viagra. I imagine i would have felt differently about that song had it resembled a stainless steel cucumber.
jff
Get well Soon Everybody makes me feel like I'm being talked down to. The Whole Love seems like a Celine Dion album title. Yeah, yeah, it's what detectives say. Guess what..."It's What Detectives Say" is a better album title than either of those.

bleedorange
To avoid confusion with Celine Dion, maybe it should be titled The Whole Love (It's What Detectives Say).
Guest Speed Racer
To avoid confusion with Celine Dion, maybe it should be titled The Whole Love (It's What Detectives Say). That would actually be a better Celine Dion title, not least of all because her leading single (the title track, obvs), about the tribulations of being cheated on and finding the womanly strength to overcome, would include her in a trenchcoat, with a hat and pipe, and a whole lot of "OMG is she naked under there?!" speculation. In case you were looking for an icky mental image this morning.

lamradio
I've always thought that it is kind of lazy to name an album after one of the song titles (although not as lazy as self titling it). A LOT of artists do this though. So I must be missing the point or something...

And see I like "Standing O" better than "Dawned on Me." Though it is hard to hear the words... I just like the melody better, I guess.
