Magnetized
I'm listening to this now. http://www.hawaiipub...ended-interview Nice! Just finished listening. It's a terrific interview--he sounds so relaxed and funny. He tells some stories about his (non) encounters with Willie Nelson, getting a voicemail from Barack Obama, and just generally sounds very fresh and happy. I'll bet this turns out to have been a terrific solo show too--I sure hope tapers were there! Edited August 4, 2011 by Wilco Me
Queen Amaranthine
Thanks for sharing this! Even though I have heard Jeff talk about the creative process before, it's always nice to hear and a spark for me to be more creative in my everyday life, a needed reminder from time to time. Funny how he has that same starry admiration for Obama the way fans have for him.
jff
For god's sake, how many minutes do you have to listen to the interviewer blab about world territories before Tweedy says anything of interest?
Vacant Horizon
For god's sake, how many minutes do you have to listen to the interviewer blab about world territories before Tweedy says anything of interest? no joke, that interviewer is an utter TOOL! 'wow man.' 'some cats say that' 'you guys ever gig in the pacific'
Magnetized
I guess people look for different things in interviews. I really liked this one and I didn't think the interviewer was a jerk at all. It seemed like he was a real fan, even if he did sound a little bit "hip." And I liked the relaxed, conversational vibe--it didn't seem that Jeff had any particular agenda or that he was aggressively promoting the new record. Kinda refreshing. Good point, Amaranthine, about Jeff's Obama fandom. I was thinking the same thing--it was sweet!
Al.Ducts
Yeah the interviewer was a little off-putting to begin with. But I think it's important to realize that he is a radio DJ. A radio DJ who lives in Hawaii, year-round. The interview itself was nice and he did seem genuinely honored/excited/etc. to be sitting down with Jeff. Seemed to wander all over the place but again, that's probably just the nature of the man. It's why most of us opt only to vacation in places like Hawaii...brotha. smells like flowers
Thanks for posting! I never get tired of hearing Jeff talk about... whatever he wants to talk about! Agree that the DJ was uber-annoying, but JT handled him like a pro. Funny about the Willie Nelson story -- at times Jeff's acoustic playing has reminded me of Willie's. Cam Jones
ughhh the way the interviewer talks makes me cringe.
jff
At the end of the interview, it sounded to me like the interviewer said "Give me a hug, Brah." I don't know what he really said, but that was funny to me after Tweedy's comment about Obama saying something that sounded like "I love you" on his phone message. Mr. Heartbreak
At the end of the interview, it sounded to me like the interviewer said "Give me a hug, Brah." He said, "Big Aloha, bro." And yes, he does sound like a total stoner who simply doesn't realize he comes across as a douche.

barbkm
Last year I was in Hawaii for work and then stayed a few days in a woman's home, who rents it out to vacationers. And -- after 4 days with her I say say that all people in Hawaii talk like the DJ. He sounds high, but just relaxed. It's Hawaii -- a big, beautiful beach that smells like flowers everywhere you go. The most stressed out New Yorker would sound like this guy after a few days.
lost highway
Last month I was hanging out in a small surfing community in Northern Peru. One friendly local was very fond of responding "Just cruisin' " to any question about what, or how he was doing. I think when you're there to see the authenticity of it, it's very charming. Hard to hear in downtown Chicago, NY etc. and not cringe, but some people are really that laid back. It is authentic.
calvino
I couldn't get through interview, but, yeah, from my experience with Hawaii, the interviewer sounded normal.
Albert Tatlock
If you've got a thing about kneecaps, and JTs kneecaps in particular, then this is for you. Probably a bit of a minority interest ...
