Doug C
The photo of President Obama and the 2 prime ministers is a non-issue. Big deal. There is a difference between a 4-hour long memorial service for a revered (but very famous) world leader held at a stadium and somebody's grandma's funeral at the local mortuary. tinnitus photography
It's pretty clear that Obama and Cameron are leaning in and smiling for a photo of themselves. So is that what a selfie is?

I'm sure the NSA has a copy though.

John Smith
There is no such thing as balanced reporting there is news or there isn't news. Tit for tat is pure bullshit.

KevinG
Relax, it was a joke. The only person that can tell me to relax is Frankie. It is amusing to me that the right it's really focusing on the handshake rather than the part of Obama's speech where he condemned dictatorships. But that would require actually listening to a speech, whereas it is easier to rant about some snapshots.
calvino
Can't wait for the "outrage" from conservative media over PBO's handshake with Castro at Mandela's funeral.  I doubt most Americans even know who Raul is.  I'm sure that will change by noon, Central Time. It's already up on the Drudge - god love 'em.  Calvino made a wisecrack about a meaningless photo of the president being mentioned on a right-leaning website and I made a wisecrack about a meaningless photo of the president being mentioned on a left-leaning website. Call it balanced reporting ... I didn't mean it as a wisecrack at all --- just a response to the first post above and your 2nd post above. The Drudge helps perpetrates the "outrage" that KevinG mentioned and it snowballs, thus people will soon know who Rual is.

KevinG
Anyone care about the budget deal? Â I haven't had a chance to go into the particulars, but it seems impressive on the outset that something actually got done. Â
Hixter
Anyone care about the budget deal? The Democrats wanted another shutdown to shift the focus from the Obamacare mess, so the Republicans stymied them by agreeing to a deal that doesn't raise taxes -- even though it does -- except they are referred to as fees. Airline travel will get more expensive, federal workers will have to pay more into their pensions and the government will continue spending as usual. Humbug. I preferred sequestration. KevinG
Despite what Hixter says, it is going to be the TEA partiers that will shut this down if it is shut down, not the Dems. LouieBIt shocks me that the line from the right is now the GOP got this budget deal down to put the focus on Obamacare. And the dems really wanted a shutdown so people would be distracted by the failings of this socialist albatross that is ACA.  This has absolutely no basis in truth and is a stupid statement. It should be considered treasonous for any law maker to desire a shutdown to divert attention. Furthermore, the latest ACA numbers appear to be doing a lot better (I'd provide a link but I am on my phone so look it up yourself). Also, the Right seems to be really hammering on the implementation (which in all honesty has not gone smoothly), but as for the actual law it does seem to be helping a fair number of people. LouieB
With a bit of luck and maybe a bit of pushing, my daughter is in line to get on the ACA. This is going to be a great program for large numbers of people in the long run. Anyone who thought it would be flawless from day one (even without the shoddy work on the website) is just dreaming. No government program runs smoothly from day one and some never run smoothly, but the ones that are needed are needed and those that aren't needed could be eliminated. Clearly a program that is going to help millions of people actually stay alive and healthy should be supported. LouieB
Atticus
My plan went up $75/month for next year
Mr. Heartbreak
Mine went up $24 per month. Of course, my employer pays a % and I pay a % so I don't really know the particulars. I just know how much my employer is requiring of me.In fact, now that I think about it, it probably went up $24 per month and my employer is just passing along the entire increase to me. That is the trend these days. The "Obama selfie" meme is pretty hilarious. Fox "News" has Obama creates international incident with 'selfie' at Mandela service on their website. Talk about a tempest in a teapot, not to mention fundamentally dishonest "reporting." They even link to a disapproving article from a U.K. site, The Telegraph, where the writer is tut-tutting about what...David Cameron was doing.
Wendy
No increase (or decrease) out of pocket for me for 2014. My employer did change us to a different health insurance company for 2014, but otherwise offer the exact same plan options and prices as 2013.  However, for most years in the past, we had a lot of price increases and quality of coverage decreases.
caliber66
My share of my health insurance premium went up $9/month.
KevinG
All of these anecdotes about my premiums went up/down, sure are interesting to hear, but really not what I was getting at, when I said ACA is actually helping people. Â It is a proven fact that millions of people will be able to get insurance (those with preexisting conditions) and stay on insurance (people under 26). Â Also the expansion of Medicaid is helping millions as well. Â These are good things. Â But really if all you have to complain about is a failed roll out (which I noted before enrollments are way up in November). Â Also it appears that 1.2 million people actually now have insurance directly because of ACA. Â But go ahead keep complaining about a broken website that isn't broken, it is a lot easier than going into the specifics of the law. Â It is the same with complaining about shaking hands with Castro, or taking a selfie. Â It is just easier to do than discuss the speech or policies. Â We as media obsessed culture always go the easy route. Â It is bothersome. Â Â Also with the change in premiums that you all mentioned. Â I am curious, what state are you in? Â And did your governor / legislature embrace or shun ACA?

Mr. Heartbreak
 Also with the change in premiums that you all mentioned.  I am curious, what state are you in?  And did your governor / legislature embrace or shun ACA?I live in Florida, where our asshole governor completely shunned the ACA. In spite of him and his minions, Florida has had one of the highest, if not the highest, number of people signing up for health insurance through the ACA website. I believe the number is in excess of 300,000. Although I'm not thrilled to see my own rates go up a dime, my point was not to complain: it was to note that 1) the amount mine went up was manageable, at $24/month, since I make an above average income; and 2) it's important to remember that just because someone's contribution amount went up, it doesn't mean the rate went up more than that. Knowing my wonderful employers (who made a point of letting people here know they were voting for Romney), I strongly suspect that any rate increase we got was passed along entirely to the employees. Meanwhile, they got a new Jaguar, just bought their 22-year-old kid a house, complete with granite countertops in the kitchen, etc. etc.
