Thanks for that, I didn't recall any of it.  But it should be pointed out that not one of the people mentioned in that op-ed is the sitting governor of one of the largest states in the union.  That just brings it to a whole new level.

So how about examples of elected officials clammoring for a new world and being taken seriously.

I don't think you'll find a major elected official from either party who actually supports secession. Perry's offhand comment wasn't exactly a firm committal and he has said many times since that he does not believe that the nation should be altered.

The rank and file republicans I know take this seriously.

I think you're mistaken.

No one is serious about it except in the states where they are voting to secede and form their own states like Maryland and Colorado recently. I used to live in a portion of Cook county where the leaders constantly talked about forming their own county. Texas regularly brings up a mythical outside the constitution ability to break off from the US (completely ignoring the articles that rue admitted them after the war and, well the constitution) and these are not man on the street positions, this is Republican Party leadership. So help me out and give me examples of democrats calling for secession from their states or the union. Heck prior to the last few years I can't even remember republican leadership staking out such positions except on very local levels, like the above mentioned Lincoln county for Illinois.

Aren't the secession talks in Maryland and Colorado about certain counties seceding from their states? Who constitutes the voice of "Texas" as "it" regularly brings up secession? Rick Perry--not the sharpest knife in the drawer--did make those comments 4 years ago, but has never seriously considered secession as an option and has repeatedly stated that ever since.

What makes Zimmerman the gold standard for unrelenting anger is Zimmerman himself. Maybe if the guy just took a break and kept himself out of the press, the anger and sadness would fade like any other grieving situation. Instead, the guy keeps popping up like a bad penny. Going to the gun factory and smiling while he shakes hands with the manufacturer of the exact same gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin, with a big shit-eating grin on his face? WTF? Speeding tickets, threatening his ex and his father-in-law? Being pulled over in Texas with a gun in his glove compartment? Seriously? I am dying to know what the guy has to do to get his defenders to turn on him, at least a hair. Shoot an infant in the face? Damn, it must be hard having to get up every day and say nice things about this sociopath. The fact that he is in my state makes me want to buy a gun to protect myself from him.

Firstly, I am not a "defender" of Zimmerman. I have never met the man but I have no admiration for him nor anything positive to say about him. I agree with you that his own actions put the spotlight on him and are keeping it there.

I do not "get up everyday and say nice things about this sociopath". I don't recall ever saying anything nice about him. Until now because I guess you could consider it nice for me to say that I doubt that he is a sociopath. It seems clear that he has a social conscience. There are sociopaths among us but is Zimmerman one? I am not a mental health clinician but I don't think that he is.

I also live in Florida, for 44 years. If George Zimmerman is the Floridian that is causing you to contemplate buying a gun to protect yourself... there are plenty of our fellow Sunshine Staters much more worrisome than him. That's just me, though.

The point of my recent posts is that there have been, are, and will be, people far more loathsome than George Zimmerman. Why is he seen as akin to the Antichrist by so many? I am not a sociologist but all that I can figure is that it is due to the racial element.

Let Texas go. After one football season of not being able to participate at the collegiate/professional level, Texas will be begging to be let back in. Ha!

Well I most certainly am not mistaken. I live in a county with less than 16k people and know a great many if the elected leaders, almost all are republicans, and they do think that Glenn Beck, Hannity, Rush teal are the voices of reason and sanity. Every conspiracy against Obama has a place at the table. They argue against conservative positions simply because Obama endorses them, I can't tell you how often the words Bengahzi or birth certificate have crossed their lips. No, I definitely know the people who I live around.

I'm not going over the Texas thing again but when I lived down there , in the military, I heard it from the rank and file daily and lately from elected officials more and more frequently.

The Maryland and Colorado examples were tossed out as examples of elected leaders wanting to secede from majority party rule, Lawrence odonnell is not an elected official.

This topic is pointless I guess.

My post was not specifically about you. There are plenty of people on the right who have practically deified this murderer as some kind of 2nd Amendment hero.

If he's not a sociopath, he clearly has some kind of mental health problem. His persistent run-ins with the law (I forgot to mention the domestic abuse restraining order from his past) have shown that. And now, his soon-to-be-ex has told the press that he feels "invincible." I'm not a mental health professional either, but I have several friends who are, and I feel pretty confident that they would all agree, this guy has no business carrying a gun. Maybe he passed his background checks before all his confrontations began.

I’m not sure I would put too much weight into his soon to be ex-wife’s statements, considering she has already plead guilty to perjury and had to recant her recent 911 statement to police.  She may have an ulterior motive in trying to vilify her soon to be ex-husband.

Of course that’s just my take, I tend to side with GZ in all of this.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have a CC permit, usually have a loaded handgun in my car, and I was ticketed twice in 2012 for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Alex Jones has all the top Republicans on his show for serious interviews.

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/09/11/alex-jones-links-syrian-weapons-proposal-to-hum/195829

JONES: [W]hat the United Nations really wants to do here, is set the precedent that they can come into any country they want, that has any type of weapons systems -- and call them WMDs, and then dismantle that country's infrastructure.

Weapons inspections, Jones argued, are essentially a Trojan horse -- a premise globalist leaders use to infiltrate nations for the purpose of dismantling not only weapons, but its entire infrastructure. According to Jones, such 'deindustrialization' has taken place in Iraq and Libya already, and eventually it will take place in Western nations as well. Once this has been achieved, "Obama and the globalists" will maintain control of advanced tools like "jetcopters" and "life extension technologies" that will be denied to most of humankind:

JONES: Everyone is going to be deindustrialized. Everyone is going to be put back in the stone age to be controlled, and then Obama, and the globalists, and the robber barons, they're gonna fly around in their jetcopters, and their Air Force Ones, and their red carpets like gods above us, and they're gonna get the life extension technologies.

Did you "tend to side" with him after his ex-fiancee filed a restraining order against him in 2005, alleging domestic violence?

Okay, never mind, I think we know where you stand on this. He will have to kill a woman next before you stop "tending" to side with him. Gotcha. :thumbup

By the way, it is extremely common for victims of domestic abuse to fail to press charges. Not because the abuser was innocent, but because the victim is afraid of him.

Yeah I MIGHT reverse my support of Zimmerman when he finaly goes on a sociopathic killing spree gunning down women and babies, as he is bound to do sooner or later.

Oh who am I kidding, he could shoot the baby jesus in the face and i would still support the loveable little cherub!

if you listen to the 911 call she made the other day its pretty clear whats going on with Zimmerman. its been clear to me ever since he said "these mother*kers always get away" and then Trayvon ended up in the ground

Enlighten me, please. I admit that it is not clear to me. What is going on with Zimmerman?

What if he just guns down another unarmed teenage boy?

This guy must be the biggest pussy ever to walk the earth. When his original ex-fiancee filed a restraining order against him for domestic abuse, he filed a restraining order against her

Then his current soon-to-be-ex tells police he smashed her iPad to pieces, and his reply is that she hit him with it first. :lol

No wonder he felt it necessary to use deadly force against someone he undoubtedly provoked, who was armed with Skittles and iced tea. I have confidence he will end up getting a serious ass-whipping some day...in prison. Hope no one else has to die first.

It is also common for people to make false claims in order to 'punish' their partner by having them arrested under zero-tolerance domestic violence laws. My mother volunteered at a women's shelter for many years and she heard plenty of stories from the residents. She once overheard a woman telling a new resident, "Just slap yourself on the arm with the handle of a wooden spoon four times and it'll look like he grabbed/slapped you and the cops will have to take him to jail."

People involved in a messy divorce make all kinds of wild accusations. My ex-wife told my Army commander something so bizarre that I still shake my head in disbelief 25 years later.

Yeah, but you have guns, which clearly indicates diminished mental capacity and sociopathic tendencies, so it had to be true.

nice lame ass stretch.

like saying Trayvon was black so it must be cool that GZ thought he was suspicious and followed him

So wait, a tape exists of Zimmermann punching his father in law, smashing his estranged wife's Ipad and threatening bodily harm with a firearm?  Well charges should be pending, I would think that the state has the right to charge Zimmerman, in the interest of public safety, regardless of S. Zimmerman's reluctance to do the same.

Those were George Zimmerman's words when detectives floated the idea that there was video of his encounter with Trayvon Martin. Not exactly what you'd expect someone guilty of a crime to say...

like saying Trayvon was black so it must be cool that GZ thought he was suspicious and followed him

I need to keep this quote hand for every time someone says something like that:

“Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. I’m black, OK?” the woman said, declining to be identified because she anticipated backlash due to her race. She leaned in to look a reporter directly in the eyes. “There were black boys robbing houses in this neighborhood,” she said. “That’s why George was suspicious of Trayvon Martin.”

dude there is videotape now and there is audio. try looking and listening.

Have you seen video which shows Zimmerman threatening his wife with a gun? No, of course you haven't. Any incriminating video would be on the iPad and police have yet to recover it. As of right now, there's no evidence to prove that Zimmerman broke any laws and that's why he has not been charged.
