remphish1
After almost everyone railed on me for expressing my dissapointment on Fridays show I decided I needed a Viachicago break. Been on here for 10 years so I made it 10 years before I got the itch. I am surpirsed really by the response I got when I posted my opinon. I got called names and made fun of. I thought the point of the message board was to have a conversation. It was like a gang mentality. I was hoping folks on viachicago would at least have an "open mind" and respectfully disagree. If you peronsally loved and enjoyed fridays show then my opinon should sway you. Don't take it personally. I just can't imagine how someone on here would feel if this was there first Wilco show. How would you feel if you paid $70 and heard all covers? I have seen Wilco almost every year since 1997 so I speak from expierence and the crowd was the most dead I ever seen a Wilco crowd on Friday night. I started out near the stage and walked towards the middle as the show progressed and most folks looked very indifferent. I have never seen so much talking at a Wilco show. When they left for the encore half the crowd left. Someone in the other thread said it is Wilco's festival they can do whatever they want..True but how is it different then any other headlinging show they do...tecnically they can do it everytime if they wanted to. Ps. as an FYI Fridays show was billed as all request a mix of covers and originals I probably would have loved the show if it was half covers and rarities mixed in! tinnitus photography
Dude, it was one guy posting a video several times. Sorry you didn't enjoy the show nearly as much as the majority, and enjoy the time off VC. see you when it's time to return.
caliber66
He was also called a prig, which I thought was uncalled-for. Dude didn't like the show, expressed his disappointment, and got slammed for it. Oh well. That said, it's been a while since we had a "I'm taking my ball and going home" thread, so I welcome the meltdown from an entertainment perspective.
tinnitus photography
Prig's a cool word. Pedant, too. No shortage of those on other boards, too (not implying any specific application of that tag, and it could easily be applied to me).
PopTodd
I missed the thread. But I don't think that one should be slammed for expressing an opinion.Come back soon, TP. I think you're a valuable member of this place.

LouieB
Not trying to stir the pot here, but since I did not attend Solid Sound I am not reading the threads. Can someone post up the link as to what this is about. I must admit that I was jealous of y'all who did see the covers set. Having seen Wilco a lot, I would have enjoyed seeing them cover a bunch of others tunes particularly with the guest musicians sitting in. As far as people talking at Wilco shows, they always do further back, so I don't know what the problem is with that. I was not upfront at the Hideout last year (I often am upfront) but at that show the crowd was extremely chatty. LouieB
lost highway
Bummer. I wasn't at the show. I did see a conversation that looked like "Man I'm so disappointed in that set." "You're crazy, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity." "So I guess you can't have an opinion on here." It seemed to me like people who enjoyed themselves were countering the complaint with their own opinion. Maybe it was expressed in a less than caring way. I find if this kind of stuff gets on your nerves it's best to avoid most any internet forum, because people's words tend to come out strong on these things. T hat said viachicago is a pretty nice place, nicer than some other forums I poke around sometimes. If anything the most contentious moments are usually like the one described: someone criticizes something, people respond saying they think it's great, then the criticizer makes a statement about how they're not being allowed to have their own opinion. Wilco seems to bring this out of people sometimes.

mountain bed
This is ludicrous. It's not like anyone said "your mama is a whore" or "go kill yourself", and even if they did, what's the problem? IT'S THE INTERNET FOR CHRISSAKES. I can't believe it's been 10 years and you didn't get fucked with at least a few times? Ever try Phish board? Good Lord, they would've chewed you up in like 15 minutes.
tinnitus photography
or the Ween board. the GBV board is another place where a thick skin comes in handy.
bleedorange
I read the thread and it didn't even seem that bad. Oh well. Come back soon.
LouieB
It's the "After the Show" thread on the Friday Solid Sound set.I kind of figured that out. Where do the fireworks begin, on what page? I can look myself I suppose. LouieB
Mr. Heartbreak
The complaints began on page one....during the show. I thought the push back was pretty mild, but then, a lot of it came from people like me who were wishing we could be there ourselves.Didn't mean to be insensitive, but like MB said, it's the internet...people are not known for being kind and loving every second around here.... LouieB
wow, I would have missed this if someone hadn't pointed out approximately where the issue was. All I can say is stay OUT of any of the political threads. You were bored, others weren't. I would have loved this set. Having seen Wilco innumerable times, a set of covers sounds like a blast. I always like seeing Wilco cover others material. Just one comment. Who in the audience was seeing Wilco for the first time? I would guess hardly anyone, since getting to Solid Sound and paying for it would e a deterrent for most non-fans. For the greatest hits, go see them with Bob Dylan. I am sure they will put on a tight and traditional set in that setting. LouieB
Mr. Heartbreak
I think that's why I kept commenting...I wished I was there, and I have seen Wilco play most of my favorites in multiple settings.Sounded like it was the wrong choice for the OP to go to just Friday but not Saturday, and may have been a variety of very understandable factors (budget, time, etc). Your mileage may vary. But yeah, when you come back, you might want to avoid the political threads...they get a lot more heated than anything in After the Show!Edit: FWIW, the show did include New Madrid, not really what I would call a cover, Kingpin, and the often-played-by-Wilco James Alley Blues (who's heard the original of that?!). So, you know...
Atticus
all of this could be avoided if Wilco would just play a "demands" show on Friday night instead of a "requests" show.
Mr. Heartbreak
all of this could be avoided if Wilco would just play a "demands" show on Friday night instead of a "requests" show.Yeah, that friggin' Wilco. Jeez. What is their problem?
Yaz Rock
I think they pretty much do "demands" shows every night. They take requests on their website and play the most-submitted songs.
ih8music
People have every right to complain, and other people have ever right to respond to those complaints. But then the OC (original complainer) feels the need to defend him/herself, which of course begs the COTOCs (complainers of the original complainer) to likewise justify their point. And then some UTPOs (uninvolved third party observers) come in with meta comments about the validity of the argument in the first place, reminding us that This Place is not nearly as bad as That Other Place. Which of course causes SJLMTTBC (some jackass like myself trying to be clever) to write up something like this.
