Why? Is it that hard to believe that a lot of people really like the greatest band of all-time?

as favorite band? yes. the whole concept of 'favorite band' seems so 5th grade BFF to me.

i am not denying the influence and greatness of them, but i honestly can't recall the last time i listened to them.

ps - they are not the greatest band of all time.

I haven't missed a "Breakfast with the Beatles" in a long long time - every Sunday morning.

Who is your "greatest band of all time"?

It's also that I want to hear The Beatles every day. Whether it's listening to one song in the midst of a wide-ranging shuffle, playing a few licks on the guitar, or singing/humming a melody to my 11-month-old daughter, their music just makes me feel good, which is something I enjoy. Don't get me wrong; I've gone through extended periods where I don't listen to them, but I always come back to them. They're just part of my musical DNA.

I envision it as a pyramid, with The Beatles at the top, as their music makes me feel happy in a way that no other music does. Wilco is on the next level, alongside Sabbath, Zep, Floyd, Gabriel-era Genesis and The Clash. Quite a bit on Level 3 - A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, The Band, Collins-era Genesis, the Dead, etc. But yeah, The Beatles now and forever at the top, above all others.

Come on man! He said "who is your 'greatest band of all time'?" not THE greatest band of all time! Besides, mb already covered this.

Ok, so it blows your mind that people are declaring that one of the most popular bands of all time is also their favorite band?

is the bible your favorite book?

If we were on a specifically Christian message board, I'd guess that a lot of people would say yes to that.

But we're on a pop music message board, so...

Being free from the strictures of conformity is good. Even better is being free from the strictures of non-conformity so you can like what you like, regardless of how popular or not it is. I think I have exquisite taste in music, but I know that only applies to the space between my own ears.

Per usual, well stated. You should write Op-Ed pieces, dude.
