What bands SHOULD be in the RnR HOF but never will be?

Recommended Posts

I'm not talking about bands that are just great, there are many of those -- but bands who actually have had an INFLUENCE on the music that came after them.

Like, bands who do make it in will say, "Oh yeah this band had a big influence on me and my music."

I submit:

YO LA TENGO

Had as much of an influence on the sound of indie rock that came in its wake as any band ever has since Big Star (who I think may actually get recognition some day, or I would include them here) or Velvet Underground. And they've been making brilliant music for nearly 30 years now, with no sign of slowing down.

Totally deserving.

Will never, ever make it in.

Gram will get at some point I am pretty sure...no rush because he is already gone.  He has been nominated at least a few times but loses out when it goes to general votes.

I nver thought Cat would get in but he dis...so there is hope for others.

The group that sticks out for me is Big Star.

Seriously. You'd think a well-oiled and reasoned machine like the R&R HOF voting committee would have more sense.

Some fools arent aware that Gram is a demi-god who should be worshipped.

Minutemen

Great call.

And, as to Gram Parsons: I think that he'll make it some day.

T Rex

MC5

Gram Parsons

I can't believe T. Rex isn't in yet, wow. Same goes for the MC5 and Gram.

Not gonna say these bands/artist will never get in, but they should be there already:

Harry Nilsson

Thin Lizzy

Mott the Hoople

Todd Rundgren

Os Mutantes

Lee Hazlewood

Big Star

Os Mutantes

I'd say that Caetano is probably more-deserving and more-likely.

But, point taken.

Ain't gonna be too many non-English-language bands in there at all.

Agreed. I thought of Caetano too, but Os Mutantes are more "rock and roll" so I went with them. Though the whole "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" thing should be renamed as everything from folk to hip-hop is represented.

Another one:

XTC

Although, I suppose their influence isn't up to that of some of these other bands. Still, for quality over time, and the sheer number of great releases, they should be in.

Wilco will be eligible in 5 years. Think they'll get in first chance they get?

that was a landmark album (and a pretty good follow-up as well)

Yeah, but I don't think that, as a group, they're Hall-worthy.

I doubt it, but maybe it depends on who they are nominated with, assuming they get nominated.
