It isn't followed by TOO, but try on the 11/2/69 Dark Star for size! That one, and 4/22 are my favorites from that year. Other than the obvious, "just exactly perfect" 2/27 Live Dead version.

The 80s page has been so insufferable for the last month that I've been reduced to telling people to STFU all the time. It's sad over there, folks.

The thing is, for as long as I can remember GDTS only got about 25% of the tickets anyway. They were lucky to get ANY. Ticketmaster is like the IRS - you just cannot get around 'em.

I will be sure to check these out. I've always been a 1st/ 2nd set kind of guy but have recently taken more of an interest in the jams. Oh, yes. Forgot about the Live Dead DS. That one is everyone's given favorite!

There's a recent interview with Trey A. about the upcoming shows (I think it was in Rolling Stone?) - what he's doing to prepare, etc.

He mentioned that 74 and 77 are his favorite years.

I don't have any shows from 74. Are there any Dick's Pick's or Road Shows that ya'll can recommend? Thanks in advance.

My first '74 show was Dick Pick's 24. Think this was the first Wall of Sound show. It's a 2 disc set so should be relatively cheap on Amazon (especially used.)

Ended up going on a GD spending spree. Picked up DPs 12, 24, and 31. Plus the "download series" No 1. (4/30/77) and Live at Fillmore East 2/11/69, and Fillmore West 1969.

Looking (hearing?) forward to it all.

That Fillmore West '69 comp is excellent. My favorite Mountains of the Moon, though I guess most of them were pretty darn stellar...

Dick's Pick 12 is one of my favorites.

Did you find the Picks used or did you buy the down-loads?

Taking acid IS a time machine, no?

I'm really enjoying Dick's Pick #12.

What I'm really doing is just assembling my listening agenda when I road trip to northern MN this summer. It's hard to get enough time to listen to a whole show at once.

Happy 75th to THE MAN. Let's take the day to give our best wishes to Phil, and maybe tell of our favorite Phil moments, either in person or on tape.

Got a kick out of this. Probably catch the Ogden Billy & The Kids show. From Billy's FB page:

I can show you a high time...living the good life: On April 18 and 19, I will be at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver for a one, two, three, puff-puff pass: First, I will lead a Keynote Conversation, discussing my memoirs, 'Deal,' with my co-writer Benjy Eisen (followed by a Q&A). I will also have the honor of being a judge, because not all cannabis is grown equally. Of course, that Friday (4/17) I will return to Red Rocks with my Rhythm Devil partner, Mickey Hart, as we join the Disco Biscuits for the evening... and then, on 4/20 itself, we will celebrate in style with Billy & the Kids (augmented by String Cheese Incident's Jason Hann and Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli) as we put a new spin on the Dead's Spring '90 repertoire. Denver -- you've been warned!!

John Denver isn't the only one who got all Rocky Mountain High in Colorado. On 4/20 -- after a Friday night at Red Rocks and a weekend at the Cannabis Cup -- come join Billy & the Kids for our first annual 4/20 show: String Cheese Incident's Jason Hann and Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli will help us celebrate the Grateful Dead's Spring '90 songbook. Don't get shut out in the Rocky Mountain Cold!

wow! is this the first time the cannabis cup has been held in USA???

I thought it was always in Amsterdam??

So great to see how far weve come. I went to the penitentiary for 19 months for marijuana in the early 90s on a bullsh*t trumped up charge here in Virginia

I can guarantee you Virginia will be the last state on the list to legalize.

P.S. 2 years in jail is something that affects you for life and virtually unbearable except there is concrete and steel that makes you bear it.

I never did anything to anyone.

Luckily I got out right when computers were breaking and after a couple of years of waiting tables happened to get into testing software (QA). It saved my life and I was able to rebuild. Most are/were not so lucky. I couldn't even complain because I was surrounded by black folks that got 5,6 and 7 years for enough crack to fit in the small part of the palm of your hand. No BS. Drug laws were BRUTAL in the 80s and early 90s.

Today is the 41st anniversary of the debut of the Wall of Sound. A moment of silence. Listened to the Playing >UJB>Dew>UJB >Playing palindrome on Sirius on the way home tonight.

I was fortunate to have seen/heard the Wall of Sound once. A memorable occasion.

Whoever bought Jerry's toilet a few years ago will need to get that table:

Former employees and friends of the Grateful Dead have contributed more than 700 items for a two-day auction April 11 and 12 to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.

Donley Auction Services in Union, Ill., about 50 miles northwest of the location of the Grateful Dead’s “Fare Thee Well” shows in July, will handle the auction of items ranging from Stanley Mouse’s original 1966 artwork for the Grateful Dead Fan Club poster to concert T-shirts.

“When the office closed, the band said take anything you want and the stuff landed in various places,” says Dennis McNally, the band’s historian who worked as their publicist. “There’s unusual personal stuff of Jerry’s like chair he used to like sitting in, a desk, a filing cabinet. My favorite is the kitchen table Jerry used to sit at in the office.”

Bidding for that table and chairs starts at $1,000.

Among the one-of-a-kind items are: The 1956 Chevy Bel Air Sedan used to transport band members, crew and others from 1970s on; Jerry Garcia’s black T-shirt from the final Grateful Dead show; the Grateful Dead’s approved patent document; Garcia’s Screen Actors Guild card; hand-written lyrics to “He’s Gone” and “Fire on the Mountain”; and original poster artwork.

Organizing the auction began more than six months ago and its geographical proximity to the final shows is random, McNally says.

The auction will be held live starting at noon central on both days with online and phone bidding.

Garcia items have attracted considerable interest at previous auctions. A 2007 auction pulled in $1.1 million from items such as empty speaker boxes, guitar strings and two of his electric guitars.

I wonder who gets the money from the auction --- do the 4 members and Garcia estate split it up among themselves? I guess there is still a 'Grateful Dead Staff or Organization', perhaps they get a cut . I wonder if Hunter or Barlow get a cut, too.

I don't remember the toilet being up for auction - that's weird.

Just dropping in to say WHOA that 9/3/72 Other One is a MONSTER. Hadn't listened to it in maybe 10 years.
