worldrecordplayer
One of my good buddies lives in NYC (now NYC and Austin), and sees more live music than any other person I know. I usually go down to NYC to catch a few shows with him each year, and we've been going to JazzFest together (I jumped on his trip, going on 17 years for him). He keeps a log every year, I looked at it over the weekend. Three pages, single spaced. Over 160 shows/dates listed. A very wide range of music. I don't know how he does it. A very understanding wife, to say the least.
I'm braggin'
Top 5 for me were 1. Winterlude Night 2 & 6, can't really choose one over the other.2. Queens of the Stone Age at Aragon in Chicago. 3. St. Vincent at The Riv4. Tweedy Night 2 at Vic5. Television at Metro Chicago Neutral Milk Hotel at The Riv would've been top 5 if my fiancee and I weren't nearly knocked on our asses by a huge dude who decided to start slam dancing somewhere around Holland, 1945 (third song of the set and he never stopped). Not to be a baby, but it was like 10 below in Chicago and we waited in line for at least an hour just to have someone push his way up to the front and start shoving people! Maybe I'm crazy for not expecting this at a NMH concert, I dunno. The music was still amazing.

Winston Legthigh
Top 5 for me were 2. Queens of the Stone Age at Aragon in Chicago. I went to this show too. Thought the sound was a terrible muddy mess.
I'm braggin'
I went to this show too. Thought the sound was a terrible muddy mess. Hmm, which night? I went the 2nd night (I think it was Monday and Friday) and didn't get that. I did go to New Order there a couple months later and thought the sound wasn't great. Was at the very back for New Order though and was much closer for QOTSA. Then again, I may have just been having a little too much fun.
worldrecordplayer
3 - Slowdive @ Royale He may not want to toot his own horn here, but I will for him. This shot by Mr. Tinnitus Photography was chosen as the top concert photo of the year in Boston by Bowery Boston Presents. Actually it was a 3-way tie, but that's still a winner. Check out Bowery Boston on Facebook. Congrats to Tim.

Cold as Gasoline
I've pored over my spreadsheet (don't judge) and these were my faves of 2014: The Milk Carton Kids - New Year's Eve at Evanston SpaceGillian Welch and David Rawlings - Thalia Hall, ChicagoThe Milk Carton Kids with Sarah Jarosz - Pabst Theater, MilwaukeeThe Jayhawks - House of Blues, ChicagoWilco - Winterlude night 4 at the Riviera, ChicagoWilco - Milwaukee RiversideJeff Tweedy - Solo at the Vic in Chicago - night 2Jason Isbell - Barrymore Theater in Madison, WIHonorable mention: all three of the aftershows at Newport were fantastic. The only big disappointments I can cite are the Mavis Staples tribute concert at the Auditorium with its never-ending set changes and Robert Ellis at Space, who was pretty underwhelming after I'd heard so many good things about him. Good year for concerts! Here's hoping for another in 2015.
