Just wondering if anyone on here is going to make it to this? I was told that it's sold out, so I guess it's good that 826CHI is getting some $$$ out of it.

I noted at least one VCer who lives in Chicago who said on her FB page that she's going.

What is this benefit for?  Seems like a lot of money for a short solo set from Jeff. Glad he is giving his time, but I can't figure out what the money is for.  Jeff may sing for 20 or 30 minutes tops.

Sounds like a great organization -- should be a delightful evening.

826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.

I pretty much never question whether something Jeff supports is worthwhile. I can't recall anything he's done--charitably, politically, etc.--that I have any quibbles with. I admire and share his values.

I am not questioning what Jeff is doing at all. It's great he does this.  But that doesn't automatically mean I need to give my time and money to an event simply because he supports it.  I was just saying I don't understand what this event is and what it will look like if one goes, that's all.

And if you support everything Wilco does, get out your checkbooks....its a long list.

See Wilcoworld since it won't let me cut and paste.

Oh no, I lied. I will blame it on my head cold.  Not going!  Anyone else?
Oh no...you're my only hope! (J/k, hope you feel better soon!)

Well I don't know who this "LouiieB" is, but he seems awfully cranky. B)Seriously, though, I understand what you mean about not being able to (or interested in) support every charitable thing Jeff/Wilco does. We all have to pick our battles. It'll be interesting to hear (if we ever find out) how long and what Jeff plays.

Yea, a bit cranky.  Not because I don't think Jeff supports good things (I have been to many benefits at which he has played either entirely or partial sets) , but because going blindly to an expensive benefit to watch him do 20 minutes seems a waste of time and money.  There are also benefits he plays I don't attend and I give money to any number of the organizations listed on WilcoWorld that I don't need Wilco to tell me to support, but I support on my own volition.

So sorry if I offended anyone, but pick your causes to support not because someone tells you to, but because you believe in them, and if your favorite musician is supporting them, so much the better.

Hey, I definitely didn't mean to imply that I would blindly do whatever Jeff tells me to do. (Although, let's face it, I probably would, since I realize I'm magnetized!)

For sure we need to make hard choices sometimes--I make the Vic solo shows a priority because they're usually 2 shows back to back and a unique experience, but I wouldn't go to this show no matter how worthy the charity since the bang for the buck just isn't there for me. Obviously it's a tougher decision when one has to factor in airfare and lodging in addition to ticket price. Likewise, the Vic shows could probably be supporting Donald Trump and I'd still come. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Hey sorry. I could delete my comments, but clearly I was being a dick. It's been a bad week for some shit. I take back what I said. That's it.

Nonsense! You didn't say anything wrong. I think we're all wondering what this event will be like. I hope someone from here goes and can give us a report. (I volunteer to do it if you all want to chip in on airfare and hotel...)
