I just did that so it wouldn't render.

(Just having a laugh, sir) I find it easier than the above method. http://viachicago.org/topic/49411-embedding-youtube-videos/

jff
I heard Tin Machine do Maggie's Farm before Dylan.
Winston Legthigh
I heard Tin Machine do Maggie's Farm before Dylan. That is utterly amazing. Not that you heard any version before Dylan, but that someone mentioned Tin Machine.
jff
That is utterly amazing. Not that you heard any version before Dylan, but that someone mentioned Tin Machine. I f-ing LOVED Tin Machine so much that I made a stencil out of a cardboard box and spray painted their name on one of my t-shirts so I could wear it proudly to school on out-of-uniform day. Back then, there was no internet, so the only way to hear this song was to buy an obscure import 12". I still like most of their first album, but rarely listen to it. I also heard Tin Machine do Roxy Music's If There is Something looooooong before I ever heard any Roxy Music songs (with the possible exception of Love Is a Drug). Robby
Not sure if anyone has already mentioned these: Great Atomic Power - Uncle Tupelo (The Louvin Brothers)No Depression - Uncle Tupelo (The Carter Family)Left In The Dark - Uncle Tupelo (The Vertebrats)I Want To Destroy You - Uncle Tupelo (The Soft Boys) I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think off of the top of by head. BTW, listen to Great Atomic Power and then follow it up with I Want To Destroy You. Its a great mix.
Winston Legthigh
Speaking of Louvin Brothers, I first heard the Byrds' Christian Life before the LB's version.
Doug C
Speaking of Louvin Brothers, I first heard the Byrds' Christian Life before the LB's version.Me too. Of course it's possible I heard Charlie and Ira's original when I was very young, as country records took up about half of our drive in's jukebox and mom always had country radio on. What a song. Of the Byrds' covers, I prefer Gram's to Roger's.
uncool2pillow
Iggy's version of "Something Wild" before John Hiatt's. Hiatt wrote that for Iggy; I think at Don Was's request. brownie
Bobby Fuller Four. And, by your post, I am assuming that you don't know anything else that Bobby Fuller did, either. That is something that you need to remedy immediately. The Rhino "Best Of..." is a fantastic collection that is all-killer, no-filler. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check it out. I envy your discovery. This is the version that you want of this album:(Click the image for a link to the Amazon page where they're selling it.) And here is one of the fantastic songs on there:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGd--QsJrxQ I can't echo this sentiment strongly enough. Many years ago, some musician friends of mine put on a tribute show to the Bobby Fuller Four. At the time, the only song of theirs I knew was I Fought the Law. Then I went to the show, and subsequently bought the Best of the Bobby Fuller Four and I was completely blown away. Here's another choice cut - the song is called Never to Be Forgotten: edit: sorry I don't know how to post the fancy video link.

Lammycat
i heard Camper Van Beethoven do Hava Nagila before anyone else. hey, i'm not Jewish!Bob Dylan's got the all-time best one, imo, with "Talkin' Hava Negeilah Blues" off of the Bootleg Series V. 1-3. It's about 30 seconds long.
Winston Legthigh
Pogues Dirty Old Town. Heard it before Ewan MacColl's (RIP) (Kirsty McColl's (also RIP) dad) version.
Doug C
Finals are next week, so my students are studying, doing work for another class, or whatever. 2 were singing "One Way or another". I am certain that there is no way in hell that they ever heard of Blondie or good music in general. I asked them, "Who sings that song?". They gleefully replied in unison, "One Direction". Jesus H. Christ, it's true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36mCEZzzQ3o
Oil Can Boyd
Not exactly on topic but I heard Lou Reed's version of Heroin (from Rock and Roll Animal) before I heard the Velvet Underground version. I listened to Lou's version so much that I still think of it as the original version.
