  1. I got home from work and switched on the Croatia-Turkey match just as extra time began. Holy crap, what an ending. I hope some of you got to see that. The first 28 or so minutes of extra time were a bit dull, but...
  2. Just my opinion, but I don't think Italy gets past Spain. I agree on the others, though.
  3. I'm guessing you're ... not a Yankees fan?
  4. It's sad that we won't see him at the British or the PGA (which is in my neck of the woods this year), but hopefully he'll be good as new when he returns.
  5. Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy
  6. It's definitely annoying, but I'll put the tomahawk chop and a few other dumb fan traditions above it on the annoying scale.
  7. I admit to usually cheering for Tiger ... probably because he really is that damned good, and I appreciate the history he's already made and will likely make in the future. That said ... I'd have been ecstatic if Mediate had won. Seems like one of the truly nice guys on the tour.
  8. I watched the rebroadcast of that match this afternoon. Wow. We were in Little Italy in San Francisco last week while the Dutch were mopping the floor with Italy. That was fun, especially when a handful of Dutch fans walked through in orange uniforms.
  9. Was this Gallagher or his brother? ...not that it matters...
  10. We read and heard quite a bit about this while we were in SF. I'm happy that they were the first (again) to be united. I just hope the whole thing withstands a probable challenge at the ballot box this fall.
  11. We were at the A's-Giants game tonight ... Vizquel's steal of home was about the only highlight for the home team. Barry Zito sure isn't worth all that money they're paying him. Nice park, nice experience overall.
  12. As for how his voice got so high, I have a feeling this isn't the first time he's "donated" his balls. I'm not a fan, but this is certainly cool.
  13. It's been sunny and 70s since we touched down in San Francisco. Well, not at night, but...
  14. I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. As you observed, DUI is a very serious matter.
  15. I saw a station with regular unleaded at $4.47 today. California ... nice place to visit, probably couldn't afford to live here.
  16. I grew up on a steady diet of Wide World of Sports, and Jim McKay always seemed to me to have the coolest job in the world ... and he was damn good at it. Still damn good well into his 80s. A lot of famous people die and I see word of their passing and it really doesn't affect me ... but this guy was a major figure in my childhood. RIP, Jim.
  17. Very cool. Maybe ours will be paid off in ... um ... twenty years or so....
  18. Bumping this thread so I can find it easily We're in San Francisco bitches!
  19. Thanks. From what I'm reading online, this doesn't seem real easy to fix. I'll keep trying other solutions as I find them, but I'm getting on a plane in a few hours (with this laptop) so it's lower priority for me than it might normally be. The computer is usable in the meantime, of course ... I just wish it were easier to see everything. Oddly, the site that's hardest to make out is this one -- it shows up in a tiny font that looks like Courier, and so far I haven't been able to increase the font size.
  20. Thanks, but that's similar to what I tried last night. Didn't work. I restored the original xorg.conf file ... here's what that is... Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad" Driver "synaptics" Option "SendCoreEvents" "true" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "auto-dev" Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "0" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "vesa" Option "UseFB
  21. I'm hopeful that there are some Linux fiends here who can help me out with this. I have an old Dell laptop (Inspiron 8200, bought in December '02) on which I recently installed Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS. The graphics card in the laptop can't handle all of the fancy stuff that Ubuntu offers, so it's installed in a slightly downgraded graphics mode (I'm not sure exactly what this entails -- there was a guy helping me out with this). My problem is that my screen resolution seems to be fixed at 1600 x 1200. If I open the Screen Resolution window to change it, there are no other choices. I did a
  22. So it seems that the feds figured that a team known for its surreptitious video recordings might be up for some audio too.
