The fifth season has started! So...? What'd y'all think? I'm not too thrilled with this Deb/Quinn thing, and hope it dies out soon. I also hope that Astor and Cody end up with their grandparents (or SOMEone else) because I can't really see any alluring story line possibilities with them still around. But aside from that, I thought it was a pretty good season opener. They haven't tipped their hand too much yet.

I hope those doggies got a boatload of treats for this.

"MEGAKONCERT ROK" Budweiser Budvar is listed as a sponsor on that same "Megakoncert" poster. It still angers me that Anheuser Busch was successful in forcing the brewers of the original Budweiser to cease using that name outside of their own country.

Rally in Washington 10/30--Anyone going?
cryptique replied to Magnetized's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Kinda sorta want to go. Exploring the possibility of visiting my brother in suburban Maryland that weekend. Even if I do that, though, I might not make it down to D.C. for the rally. -
New Pornographers not welcomed at Calvin College

The result: nationwide mockery. I love it when a bad decision backfires. (Unless it was mine.) -
And yet, it is so rarely fun to hear people talk about themselves.

tax cuts for rich vs. middle class
cryptique replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Those who benefit most from a system bear the greatest responsibility for perpetuating that system. Ergo, progressive income tax. I think Obama would have the Republicans by the balls on this one, if the worrywarts in his own party would just sack up and get on board. -
Last great Rod Stewart album: Never A Dull Moment, 1972. He's had a moment or two since then, but overall, I agree with Greil Marcus.

It was recorded on one of those little Flip Video HD cameras. Pretty impressive, I'd say. The sound at that particular venue is always terrific, and the Flip's microphone seems to have handled it quite well.

This shouldn't shock anyone. If that's the peg on which the Republicans want to hang their hat, that's fine with me. -
This was recorded by Billy Bragg's tech guy at the show I attended Saturday evening in Ann Arbor. I was sitting about five feet to the left of this camera.

That photo is amazing.

By all accounts, the refs interpreted the rule correctly. Which just means it's a stupid rule. I too am a Bears fan -- living in the heart of Lions country -- and I don't feel very good about this "win." If the Bears have to knock out the starting QB and benefit from a bizarre and obscure rule just to overcome the Lions, that doesn't say much about the team. That said, if they get Stafford back sometime soon (I really hope the injury isn't serious), the Lions could stir things up this year. That's a much better team now than it's been over the past several years. Overall, the Bears looked

My apologies if a similar thread has already happened ... didn't find one when I searched. This is a thread to post links to FREE, LEGAL music downloads that might be of interest to Wilco fans. If it's free, legal, and good, let us know! (Just be sure it doesn't run afoul of these guidelines.) Here's my initial contribution: Americana Music Awards Free Sampler on Amazon: 1. The Open Road - John Hiatt 2. All The Time - Elizabeth Cook 3. Ellis County - Buddy And Julie Miller 4. Old Gin Road - Ponderosa 5. Shame - The Avett Brothers 6. That must have been a pussy of a tornado. If it had been a serious F4 or F5 tornado, you'd have shit yourself if you got within 150 yards of it. (Full disclosure: I was once within about 400 yards of an F3 tornado. No self-shitting, but it freaked me out pretty badly ... and then it did a hell of a lot of damage in my neighborhood. I was 11.)

Some really cool stuff showing up on You Tube
cryptique replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Just A Fan
The album is credited to "Billy Bragg & Wilco," so... Wilco would be just as extraneous if they'd played something like "Ingrid Bergman." -
After the shite that Aerosmith has churned out over the past twenty years, and the way Aerosmith have allowed their music to be used to sell movies, cars, and god knows what else, I find this quote completely hilarious.

I first read about it in February. So yeah, it's not just a commercial.

I suppose that 0.00000000002% is technically a "better" chance than 0.00000000000%, but it ain't gonna happen regardless.

It was a good win on Saturday, and Michigan looks like a better team than last year, at least after one game. That said, Wolverines fans need to remember that the team started 4-0 last year, then went 1-7 the rest of the season, and didn't win a single game on the road. This Saturday at Notre Dame could reveal much about the Blue's chances to improve upon last year's showing. If they can beat the Irish, I could see 8-4 as a best-case scenario for this year. If they lose, it could easily be another 5-7 disappointment.

Yawn. Of the songs from the list that I actually know, maybe a dozen deserve to be there. The rest ... no way in hell. In my opinion, of course. Also: I very much dig "Say It Ain't So." It'd be on my list.

I'm curious to know the actual paid attendance vs. capacity of the arena. Beyond "Sweet Child O' Mine," which was a damned fine single, and perhaps "Welcome To The Jungle" (perhaps not), I've never understood the appeal of this band.

How does Mario Batali command a higher appearance fee than Blue Oyster Cult? WTF?
