Steve Allen is the ass who put Elvis in a tux and had him serenade a hound dog. Steve Allen was one of the greatest comic geniuses of the 20th century. Of all time, actually. -

New MP3 available via Magnet! "Licenses to Hide" is the song. Sounds great on first listen. -

I thought about going to this show but the timing wasn't good and we skipped it. Of COURSE it was the show where they played "Say You Miss Me." Still waiting to see them play that one live.

Edwin Jackson to the White Sox. Whether he stays there, or is promptly dealt for someone else (e.g., Adam Dunn) remains to be seen.

They took less, because nobody offered them more. They would have taken more, had someone offered. There are a number of reasons that players sign smaller contracts, but "giving a discount" isn't one of them, except in the rare circumstances I mentioned before (to sign with the club they want to play for, or to free up salary cap space to sign another player ... the latter of which doesn't really happen in MLB, but does in the NBA and NFL). Sheets got a "good ole deal" because a club (perhaps foolishly) decided he was worth the risk, despite his past injuries, and offered him a lot of money

These are not examples of players giving discounts.

Name two. I've heard of players "giving discounts" to play with the club they want to play for, or to free up salary cap space to sign another player, but I can't say I recall a player ever taking a voluntary pay cut just because they had a track record of injuries. Your agent gets you the best deal, period. If it's less than your last deal, that's because no one offered you more.
-
Because someone was willing to pay him more. What, he's supposed to say "I'm damaged goods, pay me less"?
-
Yeah. You could pay to do that.

^^ What he said.

Have you read the original Free Press article yet? He's merely trying to decide whether he still wants to pitch. Is that so wrong? He sounds like he's willing to fully commit to more baseball, if he reaches the decision to continue his career. He just hasn't made that decision yet, and his choice will be influenced by the kinds of offers he receives. No ultimatums. No demands. Just an honest statement about where his head is at. I think you're reading a lot into what's been reported. It's a lot simpler than you're making it out to be. I could rehash what I posted earlier, but it seems e

Here's a bit more on this, from the composer himself.

Damn.

I don't see a direct quote in there. Who knows what word Bonderman himself used? The word "acceptable" doesn't even appear in the Free Press article you cite.
