  1. A shitload of songs with "Bo Diddley" in the title.
  2. The Lonesome Death of Rachel Corrie - Billy Bragg (Bragg re-wrote Dylan's lyrics to fit Corrie's story.)
  3. It's already been mentioned here, kind of, but once again: smokers who just toss their cigarette butts on the ground ... especially out the car window while in motion. I'm willing to bet that many of these people abhor littering themselves, but they somehow don't equate the casual disposal of their cigarette butts with littering. Wrong.
  4. "Alex Chilton" - The Replacements "David Watts" - The Kinks "Robert DeNiro's Waiting" - Bananarama
  5. No. I just find it rather amusing.
  6. They deserved a draw, I thought. The English probably had the better of the play overall, but the U.S. often cedes the possession advantage in favor of counterattacks. It wasn't their best match, but they did well. A few defensive lapses, but Onyewu and Howard will crack the whip on those guys and they'll improve. It was their first match of the tournament -- assessing a team's prospects based solely on their first match is imprudent. They will continue to jell as a team and begin to play a more cohesive style. Of course, so will every other team, at least to some extent.
  7. Am I correct in thinking that the Big Ten currently has twelve teams, and the Big 12 currently has ten? (And by "currently," I mean "as of 2011, or whenever this all goes down.")
  8. I posted about this earlier but there was no response.
  9. I think it will be one of the sides you listed, but not definitely not France or the U.S., and probably not Italy. I voted for the Dutch, because everyone else seems to think Spain will win, and I didn't want to vote for Brazil or Argentina.
  10. Runaround Sue - Dion And, if you can find it: Peanut Butter - The Marathons
  11. Was it a Mexican player? If so, he was probably in an offside position.
  12. ESPN SoccerNet has some video highlights of the opening match (still ongoing). You can also watch it live online ... but my employer has blocked that bit.
  13. I entered this thread to express exactly this sentiment, but I see that I was beaten to it.
  14. Play paintball with Omar! (And Slim Charles, and Marlo, and a few others)
  15. Wow. I guess if you're gonna go down at an event, it's good to do it at one where there are doctors. If there's one thing Kalamazoo has, it's damn good hospitals. He should be in good hands at Bronson.
  16. This no longer appears to work. Does this represent a new policy, or merely a setting that needs to be tweaked?
  17. The speech was on C-SPAN, but I watched the online feed at http://www.whitehouse.gov/live Very cool for those kids. And I noticed that my old choir director is still there, and has the same bad haircut, 24 years later. They said something about there being 1700 students at the school now. It was over 2000 when I went there.
  18. Who wants Paul Konerko in a career/contract year? You know you want to give up your best prospect for him. C'mon, you know you want to. Can they throw Ozzie in on any trade? I love the guy, but he's clearly lost his grip on this team. While they're at it, they should dump Don Cooper and Greg Walker, too.
  19. It sees itself as constantly under siege, so this is hardly surprising. Incidentally, Switzerland has compulsory service for all males. There are many other countries with compulsory service in some form. On a personal note, though I am a pacifist by nature, I have long advocated mandatory service for Americans. I think a couple of years spent in service to my country would likely have put me on a different path (a better one, presumably), and I believe such service would be of enormous good to both the nation and its youth. However, I also believe that under a system of mandatory servic
  20. When people say "historical" but mean "historic." A truly significant, notable, momentous occasion is/was "historic." ANY event that occurred in the past is "historical," whether or not it was significant or notable in any way.
  21. Actually, this isn't true. There is plenty of dissent within Israel about their treatment of the Palestinians, the blockade, etc. One Israel's most influential newspapers, Haaretz, regularly questions government policies. Where dissent on Israel is constantly suppressed, sadly, is in the United States. AIPAC has browbeaten the mainstream media and the politicians into absolute compliance with their agenda.
