  1. Oh, I've seen far worse matches. Some were also World Cup finals. I cheered for the Dutch, but Spain had the better of the play. Lots of hard fouls, but way too many cards. I had high hopes that Robben or Sneijder would finally find the net, but Spain had too many good chances to go scoreless for 120 minutes. Spain were the better team in an ugly match.
  2. We may do a Pacific Heights architectural tour, and in the evening we'll find a suitable vista point for fireworks over San Francisco Bay.
  3. He did put it in the goal. It was only kept out by an illegal play. FIFA will not make any rule changes because of this (they're notoriously stubborn), but I wish they'd at least look into it. I think it's reasonable to allow the referee discretion to award a goal in this kind of circumstance. When the ball is obviously headed toward the net, and the only possible way to prevent it from crossing the line is to break the rules, the defending team should not be rewarded for doing so. I'm a lifelong soccer fan and I'm as resistant to rule changes as anyone, but this is one I'd welcome.
  4. I can't help you with "chucky," but I wanted to point out that although this song is most often credited to Tosh, it was actually written by Joe Higgs. If you don't know about Higgs, he's worth looking into.
  5. I disagree. I thought the ending of extra time was disgusting. A player commits an egregious foul to keep the ball out of the goal, and his team is rewarded for it. I think a non-soccer fan would be repulsed. I was repulsed, anyway. It nauseates me to think that Uruguay was rewarded for Suarez's actions. Ghana should have scored a last-minute goal in the run of play, but for his blatantly illegal handball. If only the referee were empowered to award a goal in such a situation, rather than a penalty. So, fuck Uruguay. I hope the Dutch take them apart. I'm thinking 5-0 or worse. They should
  6. Yeah, it's hard to find any faults on Aja. Unless you're one of those people who hate Steely Dan.
  7. I can't think of a completely flawless album, but a few are close. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot approaches flawlessness for me. So does the self-titled Moby Grape album.

  9. The Guardian's live blog on it from yesterday was often hilarious. It's a worthwhile read.
  10. He's not the most restrained drummer in the world, but I love me some Mitch Mitchell. Those Jimi Hendrix Experience albums just wouldn't have been the same without him.
  11. Slovakia 1 - 0 over Italy at the half. Come on, Slovakia, hold on to that lead.
  12. I believe he's in the upper right, peeking over someone else's head.
  13. Lots of "should have been" goals in that game. I'm just glad one of them actually went in.* * Aside from the one Dempsey got screwed out of by the ref.
  14. Never thought the original CDs were very good. I far prefer the new remasters.
  15. I guess you can call them mountains. (Highest point in New Jersey: 1,803 feet.)
  16. Wow, that's a name I haven't heard in a LONG time.
  17. I did a pass through my music folders this morning and came up with a pretty sizable list. I attempted to edit out anything that's already been mentioned here. 19. That reminds me of one... "Fried Chicken for Richard Speck" - Eugene Chadbourne
  20. What the hell, Spain. Heh. It would be pretty sweet if Chile and Switzerland advanced from that group. Though it would seriously screw up my tournament picks.
  21. "Joe DiMaggio Done It Again" - Billy Bragg & Wilco "Walt Whitman's Niece" - Billy Bragg & Wilco "Stetson Kennedy" - Billy Bragg & Wilco
  22. link Student's bizarre attack on Hell's Angels A German student created a major traffic jam in Bavaria when he 'mooned' a group of Hell's Angels, hurled a puppy at them and then escaped on a bulldozer. The 26-year-old drove into the grounds of the motorcycle gang members' clubhouse north of Munich, according to reports in local media. The young man, who was not identified, then dropped his pants, threw the puppy, and then fled. After making his getaway, he stole the bulldozer from a nearby construction site, and attempted to drive it to Munich. However, it was not fast enough, and
