  1. I've got a pretty decent CD pressing of their debut, but I'll have no problem plunking down some more cash for an upgrade. One of the best albums of all time.
  2. article Police guitarist says new album possible 10/08/2007 8:50 AM, AP Shawn Pogatchnik Will the curtain close again on The Police when their reunion tour ends? Andy Summers says the fractious trio could have a new album in them. "It's sort of like living with the elephant in the room. I would see it as a challenge, to make an absolutely brilliant pop album at this stage of our career, and that would be something quite remarkable," Summers, 64, said. The Police broke up in 1984 following five albums and a relationship-wrecking world tour. Their hits include "Roxanne" and "Every Breath
  3. My favorite-band-of-the-moment changes all the time, but the Beatles are consistently in the top three, and frequently # 1. Therefore, even though they're frequently (temporarily) displaced, yes, they're my favorite band ever.
  4. I now live perilously close to Detroit, but I manage pretty well without giving myself over to their teams. I'd manage somewhat better if I finally sprung for the baseball package on my cable service, but I'm a cheap bastard.
  5. Do people really talk like that about the Rockies? I never have. I am nostalgic for the days of my youth, when there were fourteen AL teams and twelve NL teams and no wildcard (and I'm sure my father feels similarly about the years prior to divisional play). But I think baseball has weathered its expansion far better than the other major sports leagues, and with the exception of the Devil Rays, all of the recent expansion clubs have justified their existence on the field since their inception, albeit to varying degrees.
  6. Note to self: Read all of a post before replying to it.
  7. I was mildly interested in that first single way back when, but they followed that up with "Ants Marching," which in my opinion is a really shitty song. I've never heard anything since then to spark further interest. While I respect their musicianship, a band's got to have some songs for me to bother with them.
  8. No. I was thinking more along the lines of Cal.
  9. This, from someone who cheers for a team named after hosiery.
  10. Untrue. They may well be the best two teams in that conference, but not "easily." I really, really, really wanted Florida to hang on last night. It's time for some new blood at the top of the rankings.
  11. How sad is it that after one inning, I've already decided that the Cubs game is over? I've got stuff to do, can't waste my time watching that crap.
  12. It's not so odd, really. Jethro Tull's first album came out when she was 28. She's only seven years older than Ian Anderson.
  13. It won't. Looks like the balconies are mostly sold. Available sets of two tickets are still much further forward than I'd expect (though on the side), but sets of four are pretty far back on the main floor. The place has nearly 5200 seats. It's not the kind of venue a band like Wilco sells out easily.
  14. My recording cut off long before the end ... Letterman must have run quite long last night. Otherwise, I'd have YSI'd it for people.
  15. FYI, I&W are playing Letterman this evening.
  16. Actually, yeah. I would think so. Those other labels probably don't have the legal muscle to come after people, or are smart enough not to.
  17. What really pisses me off is "Order 17," and how the U.S. snuck it in just before "handing over power" to the Iraqis. Here's Sidney Blumenthal's column from Salon yesterday... Red, white and mercenary in Iraq Under the cloak of freedom, the U.S. exempted Blackwater and other contractors from Iraqi law -- and destroyed its own democratic credibility. By Sidney Blumenthal Oct. 04, 2007 | On June 27, 2004, the day before the United States was to grant sovereignty to a new Iraqi government and disband the Coalition Provisional Authority, L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. proconsul, issued a stunnin
  18. The Cubs lost two on the road. Discouraging, but the series isn't over. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I still see this series going five games. Hill is a better pitcher than Hernandez, and I think the Cubs will take game 3. I'm not quite as optimistic about game 4, but if they win tomorrow who knows? A 2-0 deficit in a five-game series is scary, but not insurmountable. If they can get it to game 5, anything can happen.
