  1. Maybe if Lorne Michaels offered them $3,000...
  2. I see where you're getting that. Though I'm sure everyone in Wilco has heard All Things Must Pass, I don't imagine that they made a deliberate attempt to make their song sound similar to George's.
  3. Not the picture I was expecting after reading the thread title.
  4. Bear in mind that this is just for the primary, not for the general election. In the end, it probably won't have much effect on who's nominated by the Democrats. The same thing is happening in Michigan. Personally, I side with the DNC on this. I think it's monumentally stupid for all of these states to try to move their primaries up to such early dates. The old primary/caucus calendar wasn't perfect, but it worked, more or less (though I think it skewed everything too early in the year to begin with), and it wasn't until more recently that anyone really complained about it. What will hap
  5. You know, there's a point where your avatar resembles a swastika...
  6. That paragraph is from the Fourth Amendment. The one you're thinking of is from the Second Amendment.
  7. Seems to me that Papelbon's mom is the one doing that.
  8. I read somewhere that they've got studio time that evening for recording a cover of "Summer of '69" for a Bryan Adams tribute album.
  9. Fair enough. Also, at this point I think it's only fair that I welcome you to VC. People like me aside, it really is a wonderful place. I hope this thread hasn't soured you on the whole forum. It's a living, breathing community, and yes, it has its share of dysfunction, but it's also one of the friendliest places I've ever seen on the 'net. Well, personally, I really hate most bars, so this scenario is strictly hypothetical for me.
  10. It's an etiquette thing. If you're going to use teh InterWebs to promote your music, there are better and more polite ways to do it than signing up on other bands' message boards and then immediately promoting your own music before disappearing, never to be heard from again. I'm prepared to acknowledge that this guy's different -- by still being around (even if it's largely to express indignation at the treatment he's received), he's proving that he's not the typical "I LIKE WILCO TOO SO LISTEN TO MY CRAP" drive-by self-promoter. I was a dickhead to him when he first appeared because let's f
  11. There's some guy named "Tweedy" who does this too.
  12. Yeah, that's basically what I was going to say too. The move backfired, but the way Marmol has pitched, I certainly didn't fault him for making it. I didn't actually see the home run he gave up, but the pitch Ojeda hit for the double was nasty -- I couldn't believe he got around on it.
  13. This is about the only way I see this happening, and I still doubt it ever will.
  14. Stuff I agree with, more or less: Neil Young - Tonight's the Night (1975) Yes. I was already a Neil fan, but when I heard this one it changed the whole way I thought of his music. The Clash - The Clash (1977) I first got into them via London Calling, but yes, this one rules. Ramones - Ramones (1976) Absolutely. The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet (1968) My first favorite Stones album. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (1971) The LZ album that changed my life was Houses of the Holy, but I guess I can understand why this is the one on the list. Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold
  15. I'd go see it, but I don't think it's ever going to happen, and really, why should it?
  16. No argument here. That's just something I do. Of course, if you hung out around here, you'd know that's not all I do ... but I'm guessing that won't happen, so, whatever.
  17. I think my assumptions were perfectly reasonable, and my response was entirely predictable, if you bother to really think about it. We get people in here all the time who join up, drop a self-promotional turd, and are never heard from again. You followed this pattern by pimping for your band a mere SIX MINUTES after you joined the board. I'm guessing you spent those six minutes figuring out which forum was the most likely target for band-pimping and then typing your post. That means you didn't even bother to read any other threads before starting in with the self-promotion. Now, if you actua
  18. I swear we had another asshole band spammer in here a few months back who began his message exactly the same way, including the ALL CAPS bits. Get a job.
  19. Sigh. There wasn't anything wrong with this thread.
  20. Cubs over Diamondbacks Phillies over Rockies Indians over Yankees Red Sox over Angels Phillies over Cubs Indians over Red Sox Indians over Phillies edit: I just realized that I exactly duplicated mrkinsley's predictions.
  21. I heard that they're playing during halftime at the Steelers-Broncos game that evening.
  22. OK, as long as we're wishing, I wish Jeff would come over someday and we could sit in my living room playing records and talking about music. I'll have plenty of Diet Coke on hand.
