  1. The Red Wings are about # 3 in my hierarchy of most-hated sports teams (behind the Yankees and Cowboys), so I won't go there on principle.
  2. Wow. Great setlist. I hope we get anything close to this in Detroit this week. "Pick Up the Change"
  3. This post is sick and wrong on so many levels, I don't even know where to begin. Don't get me wrong -- I loves me some pineapple. A fresh pineapple is one of the most delicious things on earth. But all that deliciousness disappears the moment you apply heat to it, or put it with something savory.
  4. Yeah, I think OSU-USF would be a hell of a game. BCS rankings come out today for the first time this year. I wonder how stupid they'll be.
  5. You'd think after the Cubs debacle that Dusty Baker would be forever consigned to TV analyst gigs (and he's not even very good at those). Bad move, Reds. Also: I see that Gagne had a hand in the 11th-inning meltdown. Why am I not surprised? ...though he was only responsible for two of the runs. What happened to Lopez and Lester? Too much time hanging out in the bullpen with Gagne?
  6. Around these parts we can get feta cheese as a topping. Good stuff, though only in moderation (too much and it becomes an oversalty mess). I finally decided a few years back that I just don't like most pepperoni. If it's really good pepperoni, fine, but most pizza joints don't use good pepperoni. Also: in my opinion, pineapple on pizza is one of the most disgusting things ever, and it should be outlawed. Probably the best pizza I've ever had is the stuff my father's been making lately. He uses fine cheeses (and not too much), and everything else is made from scratch or harvested from h
  7. First of all, Blender is a completely crappy magazine. We ended up with a one-year subscription to it somehow (I suspect a prank) and we can't WAIT for it to end. I generally recycle it without even opening it. That said, I agree with them about recent Radiohead and recent Dylan (sorry). Otherwise ... a stupid list. ...except maybe for Pet Sounds.
  8. ...and Cal goes down too. They didn't have to ... the quarterback gave it away at the end with a bonehead play. Sadly, this means that Ohio State will probably be the new number one. I was pulling for Cal just because someone ELSE would finally be the top-ranked team (other than USC, OSU, LSU, or Florida). Oh well.
  9. Love Gaffigan. Just got done watching an hour of Daniel Tosh on Comedy Central, and some of his stuff kind of reminds me of Gaffigan.
  10. It's a matter of taste. I don't like standing shows any more ... I'm too old for that shit. Give me a seat and I'm happy, even if I don't end up sitting in it all that often.
  11. Not sure where we'll be yet (if we go anywhere) but one of my favorite places for a pre-show dinner is the Majestic Caf
  12. It'd be hard to find a better one. The thing is, he wasn't done there. After A Period in Transition broke up the streak a bit, Wavelength, Into the Music, and Common One comprised another great run -- particularly Into the Music, which is one of my favorites of his. While he's had a few lackluster outings, I don't know that I've ever heard a bad Van Morrison album.
  13. Was his dad Mike Tyson? I remember him playing for the Cards, and later the Cubs.
  14. I pretty much ignore her. If anything still riles me about her, it's that the media doesn't ignore her. They really need to stop inviting her to appear on television.
  15. Good news vibes from me, Melissa, Henry, and Eleanor
  16. Shouldn't the defense always be prepared for a fake? I don't really see a problem here. That doesn't help ... the play would continue and if the fake didn't work, the offense would just get another attempt five yards closer to the goal line (or even a first down). On the other hand, if you make contact when you cross the line of scrimmage, the refs will whistle the play dead right away. But you don't want to do that if it's a short-yardage situation.
  17. So ... how is the Rockies' stance not discriminatory? Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers (even private ones) cannot discriminate on the basis of religion. Based on what I read in this article, it sounds to me like the Rockies are in violation of the law.
  18. I've been meaning to come back to campus and visit sometime... That looks seriously tasty.
  19. Not on any radio stations I ever listened to. Besides, Lola Vs. Powerman is just too good of an album to let something like one overplayed song ruin it.
  20. Then you'd just have a defensive player call a timeout right before the snap. Some columnist I read a while back suggested that they outlaw defensive timeouts on field goals after the play clock has ticked down under a certain point (15 seconds? 10 seconds?). I think that would solve the problem.
  21. I grew up on that album. One of my earliest musical memories is of my dad playing this record very late on a summer night as we sat on the front steps and looked up at the stars. Hard to say which he played more back then: After the Gold Rush, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, or Jackson Browne's For Everyman. My dad was (is) teh coolest.
  22. First time in a long time. I'd forgotten how amazing this record is.
  23. There was a documentary called Joy Division. Control is not a documentary.
  24. Fort Recovery is one of my all-time favorite albums. But it's all good.
  25. I'm a huge Kinks fan. My introduction to them was a 10" record my brother had called The Shape of Things to Come. It was an eight-song hits collection, with this tracklist: SIDE A You Really Got Me All Day And All Of The Night Till The End Of The Day Set Me Free SIDE B Lola Tired Of Waiting Sunny Afternoon Waterloo Sunset That record hooked me BIG time. My favorites are Lola vs. Powerman, Village Green, and Something Else, but I love 'em all.
