  1. Maybe it's just me, and I haven't seen this film in several years, but I still get the creeps when I think about Jacob's Ladder. I'm not even sure that one was supposed to be all that scary, but it sure worked for me.
  2. Maybe the way he croaked thirty-five years ago, but now he just sounds weak and tired.
  3. I guess they picked the right season to not play both Texas and Oklahoma. Might just land them a BCS berth (assuming they get past Mizzou, OSU, et al).
  4. I don't think I've ever walked out of a movie, but I only go to two or three a year (if that) anyway. It's rare that something comes out and I think "I need to see that in the theater."
  5. That's an unfair characterization of the actual explanation given, inadequate though it was.
  6. The saddest thing is that Rod sounds like crap these days. He can barely croak out a tune anymore.
  7. Finished this recently, and really enjoyed it: I read Roth's The Plot Against America recently, and this meshes nicely with that. I'm now thinking of picking up the followup book to Farthing, which is titled Ha'Penny.
  8. I know I'm part of an extremely small minority, but no, I no like.
  9. Don't you pay attention? Also, he set the California wildfires in a fit of 'roid rage.
  10. Please, please, PLEASE don't let this happen. The Bulls have built a terrific team mostly through the draft, and they're exciting to watch. Given another year or two, I think they're NBA Finals material. I just don't understand the impulse to upset all that just to snag Kobe Bryant. He might make the team better for a year or two, but I think the long-term effects would be disastrous.
  11. linky MLB 'disappointed' in Boras' timing Agent apologizes for upstaging World Series game Posted: Monday October 29, 2007 6:24PM; Updated: Monday October 29, 2007 8:16PM NEW YORK (AP) -- Major League Baseball had this message for Alex Rodriguez and agent Scott Boras: Shame on you. Boras announced during Game 4 of the World Series on Sunday night that A-Rod was opting out of the final three seasons of his contract with the New York Yankees. The timing left baseball officials livid, and Boras apologized Monday evening. "We were very disappointed that Scott Boras would try to upstage o
  12. I should have mentioned that Pyromania came out when I was 14, which goes a long way toward explaining my feelings about that album.
  13. Once upon a time I enjoyed certain Def Leppard songs. Nothing after Pyromania, though.
  14. Great. So the White Sox would ditch one non-hitting center fielder for another? I've heard talk of Torii Hunter coming to the White Sox ... he's 32, so he's not quite over the hill yet.
  15. I figured with the A-Rod announcement, the hot stoves got lit early this year.
  16. ...plus, they now don't have to throw another $21M at the Yanks for the remainder of his previous contract. Still, though, I don't see him going back to Texas. What about a return to the Mariners? Not enough cash?
  17. ...which is against MLB rules, as I understand it.
  18. Yeah, that struck me too. The idiotcasters went on and on about A-Rod, and meanwhile there was a rather important baseball game being played. I'm not happy about the apparent trend in broadcasting where the commentators decide to talk about anything except the game they're being paid to talk about. I watched that dreadful Lions-Bears game yesterday and during a rather bizarre instance of an official's video review, they talked about everything except what was going on down on the field. I ended up screaming at the TV "Tell us what the fuck is happening in the game!" Scared the hell out of
  19. I laughed when McCarver (or was it Buck?) got going about this last night -- he kept talking about possible Rodriguez destinations in terms of their current third basemen. Has everyone forgotten that the guy was a shortstop his whole career until he wound up in the same infield as Jeter? Lugo isn't so hard to push aside, right? How about a Sox infield of Lowell, A-Rod, Pedroia, and Youkilis?
