  1. Yeah, I'm sure I am misinterpreting. I just read that post again and it didn't get my hackles up the second time like it did the first. One of the unfortunate aspects of Teh Internets. To be fair, though, I think you misinterpreted this post too. I was sincere when I said that I'm glad you all enjoy them so much (and honestly, I was trying hard not to be an ass about it). I respect the band for inspiring such devotion, even if I don't share it.
  2. I was really trying NOT to be an ass about it, but I guess I failed. I have to say, even with your disclaimer, that your "feeling bad" for me because I don't "get" this band is condescending beyond belief. But I'm the ass? And I am not someone who doesn't like them because of the hype. I have copies of both Funeral and Neon Bible, because a lot of people whose opinions I respect (you're among them) have expressed sincere admiration for this band, so I've tried really hard to see what all the fuss is about. After numerous listens, though, they still just don't do a thing for me. Their songwri
  3. Yes. This doesn't usually bother me too much, but if you happen to search for something that's not part of your usual listening patterns, they start recommending all this other similar stuff you're just not interested in. You can fix that, but it's not the most obvious process sometimes.
  4. Don't feel bad for me. There's a lot of great music in the world from which I derive genuine joy. I'm not the least bit sad that I don't "get" this band ... should I feel bad for all of you who think they're amazing, when I happen to find them dreadfully boring? I don't ... I'm glad y'all enjoy them so much. Sorry, I really shouldn't even be posting in this thread. Carry on.
  5. Nope, I just don't get the fascination. They do absolutely nothing for me. I'm only here because I couldn't believe how bad the mix was on ACL.
  6. I think the refs got the call right on the third-down replay review -- the ball didn't get far enough for the first down. But what was up with that "simulating a snap" penalty call? I don't know the rule very well, but is it true that the guy they called it on could legally shift? The TV commentators didn't understand the call, though that hardly surprises me because I'm not sure John Madden even knows where he is these days. The way the guy jumped up and backwards, it certainly looked like "simulating a snap" to me, but could that have actually been legal? Just wondering ... I'm happy th
  7. I read something this morning that suggested that Georgia needs Tennessee to lose to make it to the SEC championship game, so I guess the Georgia-LSU scenario isn't a sure thing.
  8. So, what, you think LSU is going to lose in the SEC championship game? Because I don't see them losing to either Ole Miss or Arkansas. They'll probably meet Georgia in that game (unless they lose to Kentucky at home, which I doubt, or Georgia Tech on the road, which is at least possible). I doubt LSU will lose to Georgia. I think maybe Tennesse could beat them, but first they have to get to that game. Nope, I think LSU wins out and plays in the BCS championship (which sucks, because I am NOT a fan). Oregon could get leapfrogged by the Big 12 winner, however.
  9. I'm not a fan, but I tuned in for a song or two to see if that opinion still holds (it does). The reason I'm here posting, though, is to ask whether the mix seemed terrible to anyone else? The portion I watched had a really muddy lead vocal, and the instrumental mix didn't sound very good. I mean, I don't like these guys, but I was starting to feel really sorry for them because of the shitty mix they were getting from the ACL folks. For their sake, I hope this was just an anomaly of the broadcast in my area.
  10. Me too. In fact, we're thinking of taking a day trip to Cleveland some weekend and checking out one or both of his restaurants.
  11. Speaking of cheesy muscle-bound television, I think I'm addicted to "Ninja Warrior" on G4.
  12. Thanks for another racist, hate-filled post.
  13. I believe it means that the Jayhawks wash away in the rain.
  14. I picked the "right" answer too ... but come on, Rolling Stone, do your math right.
  15. 37. I actually knew most of the ones I got right. I'm embarrassed by some of the ones I got wrong (but not many of them). Also, the Robert Smith / train to L.A. "correct" answer is wrong. They're off by four hours. My guess is that they adjusted for the time zone difference in the wrong direction.
  16. from the ArchitectureChicago Plus blog, via BoingBoing. The BoingBoing post mentions Wilco and YHF. Wednesday, November 07, 2007 Stop Taking Pictures of Marina City! (Plus, a spectacular 1965 film on the construction of Bertrand Goldberg's masterpiece) Serving on a condo board can be a thankless, high-pressure job. That's the only excuse I can think of for the declaration, equal parts loony and arrogant, of the board of the Marina Towers Condo Association: "Because of the architectural significance of our building, the Condominium Association holds a common law copyright on the use
  17. I often say "it's all Bush's fault" as a joke, but after reading this essay, I'm starting to think maybe it really is.
  18. Hey, this is important stuff. I'd hate to see you deprived of vindaloo needlessly.
  19. Read up on what's the best Indian place in town, then go there. Vindaloo is a pretty standard menu item. Not absolutely guaranteed to be on the menu, but chances are good. Just from some quick Googling, I found Bombay House, which has both chicken and lamb vindaloo, Mayuri, which also has both, and India Palace (both). I'm sure there are plenty more in the area.
