link Baseball general managers recommend instant replay for first time By RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer November 6, 2007 ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- For the first time Tuesday, baseball general managers recommended instant replay be used to help umpires make difficult decisions. The recommendation, by a 25-5 vote, was limited to boundary calls -- whether potential home runs are fair or foul, whether balls go over fences or hit the top and bounce back, and whether fans interfere with possible homers. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig opposes the use of replays but said last month he was willi

1. Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond. In a surprisingly good year for music, this, to me, is the cream of the crop. 2. Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog. Would have been #1 in most other years. Fantastic. 3. Georgie James - Places. Just a great pop record. In this case, that's enough to rank highly on my list. 4. Grant Lee Phillips - Strangelet. He's only getting better. 5. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha. Hard to pick #5, but this one's been on endless repeat in my car lately, giving it the edge. Other contenders: Wilco - Sky Blue Sky Dr. Dog - We All Belong Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga The National - Bo

Against MLB rules, if I recall correctly.

Nearly always, but there are occasional exceptions. I believe I remember a day many years ago on which I saw the Cubs in the afternoon, then jumped on the el and saw the White Sox that evening.

It'll probably be in McFadden's favor to not win the Heisman. I mean, how's that Heisman thing been working out for most of the recent winners? Not too well, I'd say. Carson Palmer is probably the best NFL player of the last ten Heisman winners -- a legitimate starting quarterback, though it'd be a stretch to call him a superstar. Reggie Bush will probably have a good career, but how good is still an open question. But what about Troy Smith? Jason White? Eric Crouch? Chris Weinke, Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams, Danny Wuerffel? Matt Leinart's been a disappointment, at least so far. The last m

It is Election Day in the U.S. of A.

It's OK ... that was my thread, and I was confused too at first, because I didn't see the new thread that had been started in its place. Non-controversial threads don't usually get locked around here for no good reason. -
That guitar interplay is hard to beat, yeah.
-
Side With The Seeds is great live, though ... I knew that would be a live favorite of mine the first time I heard it on the album.
-
Soooo... Was there a reason that this thread was closed? Carry on. edit: OK, I just spotted the new one. Never mind.

I know you're not talking about this cat:

I like beans in my chili. That recipe looks good, but it's missing something...

Yeah, that works great in a movie theater.
-
That's what I do, mostly. I don't see any problem in trying to enforce some basic etiquette, however. I appreciate a movie complex where the security staff actually removes people from theaters for being disruptive. I've been in such places ... but sadly, not around here.

As alluded to in my previous post, I firmly believe it's appropriate to jam them in certain circumstances ... but those circumstances should be limited and known to the public, and outside of those, I agree that people just need to deal with the damn things, annoying as they are.
-
I would like to see jammers legalized for theaters, moviehouses, and other selected venues (e.g., chamber music venues ... even I won't suggest that they should jam signals at rock venues). Anyone who needs to be contacted for legitimate emergency purposes could make arrangements with the front desk at the venue. There's just no etiquette left when it comes to mobile phones, so I'd like to see some enforced by other means. However, I believe that the public should be notified any time their devices won't work, and random jamming by any douchebag on the street shouldn't be allowed.

JHamm, you rule. There have been a number of ACL performances released on DVD lately (Neko Case comes to mind) ... any chance that Wilco's will see similar treatment?
-
I'll have to check these out at home when I have a chance. I really miss that band. I don't know anything about this show -- was this a one-off, or are they back together?

They currently have the #1 recruiting class for 2008, per scout.com. Of course, it's still really early, and the way the team's played this year, I expect they'll be overtaken in recruiting. It's doubtful that you can have a season like this and still wind up with the #1 class. I seriously question Weis' coaching abilities at this point. To me, it seems like his main asset is confidence in himself and in his team. To state the obvious, confidence alone can't put points on the board, or stop the other team from doing so.

How sweet that was.

Either Stewart or Colbert played the tape of the Dog phone call, and after cracking a joke or two, said something like "...and in other news, Michael Richards has a new ringtone!"

I only now read about BC's implosion last night ... and all I can think is "No! Not LSU in the top 2 again!" I think I'd like to see an Oregon-Kansas BCS title game. It's not going to happen, but I can't stand all those other teams at the top of the rankings.
