  1. I think that normally I would agree with this, but I'm not so sure I would in this case. Jeff has made comments in recent years about how highly he values the current lineup of the band, and I get the impression that, perhaps for the first time, it really feels like the band he wanted to be in. If this is true, and if the rest of the guys are on the same page, then calling this album Wilco could merely be a statement that now, after all the lineup changes and everything else that's happened, they're finally comfortable being Wilco. That said, I am hoping for a different title, but if they do
  2. Yeah, that'd be cool. And if it happens, honestly, Wilco should headline it. Jay may not be a member of the band anymore, but they still play a lot of songs onstage that he either co-wrote or was a crucial part of. Regardless, major vibes to the guy, and hopefully he'll be fully mobile again really soon.
  3. OK, now I want to see the rest of that show.
  4. I've been down on this show lately but after last night's episode I suppose there's a chance it'll get back on track. Even if it does, I hope they'll not try to keep it going endlessly. It's already gone far longer than the British version, and I'm not sure how much longer it can retain any freshness it might still have left. Maybe another season after this one and then call it a day. And yeah, the Korean lady was a highlight.
  5. Tonight's the night! Anyone else going? I'll be in the balcony (loge), fifth row center.
  6. Agreed. I mean, yeah, it's a nostalgia trip, but they're not just going through the motions up there.
  7. I've heard a lot of people around here say "EYE-talian." These people probably also say "eye-RACK."
  8. To be fair, I'm just busting on Crow because one of his examples doesn't really bear out his point -- but it does seem that there have been a lot of distressing stories coming out of schools lately -- both public and private, involving both students and faculty/staff. I don't know whether this represents an uptick in actual incidents, or just increased emphasis in reporting such incidents in the news, but it is something I've noticed also.
  9. I'm not sure what the problem is with the second story. You've never "parked" before? Not like it involved a student or happened on school grounds or anything. Hell, in Texas people are probably pleasantly surprised that a female volleyball coach got caught with a man.
  10. Lately I've heard a lot of people mispronouncing "great." Instead they say "sick."
  11. Four more homers in the Bronx today ... so far. It's in extras.
  12. Not if they also straightened out some of Payton's runs. With the offensive line he ran behind for much of his career, he was forced to change direction a lot.
  13. He and most of his teammates.
  14. Hated him with the White Sox, and I hate him with the Cubs. He was born in Tweedy's hometown, not that that makes him suck any less.
  15. I love The Band, but I don't listen to that record much. Try the self-titled album, if you're up for another attempt. If you still don't like them after that, then they truly aren't your thing.
  16. That one has variations. I used to hear "finna" all the time, as in "I'm finna go to the mall." I heard that in Michigan, back in high school. I haven't really heard it since then.
  17. Same here. I find his voice incredibly difficult to listen to, and I've never been especially impressed by the songs. I voted "hate" but only because "somewhere in between" doesn't adequately summarize my feelings. If there'd been a "don't see what all the fuss is about" option, I'd have voted for that instead. I feel much the same way about Arcade Fire. There's just nothing there for me. Ooh, and the Decemberists. And easily a dozen other contemporary bands that have been darlings of the indie set at one time or another.
  18. If anyone needs me, I'll be over in the corner ****ing myself, because I really don't "get" Aeroplane, Funeral, or Pet Sounds. I do, however, regard London Calling as a strong candidate for best album ever made ... and while I don't personally rank Sgt. Pepper highly among the Beatles' output, I appreciate how earth-shaking it must have been when it came out. I just don't think it's held up as well as many other Beatles albums.
  19. Try Beefheart's first album, Safe As Milk. It's weird, but not to the usual Beefheart level. Quite listenable, and I would say quite enjoyable.
