You are the closest to Barack Obama and you are the furthest away from Fred Thompson. You are 13% economic left You are 10% more progressive You have a substantive agreement of 85% Now I just have to convince Obama to run for Prime Minister.

It's a keeper. Ah, Nat, still making me laugh!

I'm getting nothing done today. Instead of staring blankly into space, I decided to read some of Nat's posts. This is one of my favourites:

That's a beautiful idea! I should really learn to knit.

I am devastated. When I saw the title of this thread, it brought a smile to my face and I immediately clicked on it, never expecting this. How can it be? Nat was the first VCer I met in person (before a Wilco show in Eugene in 2003) and she was truly a kindred spirit. The last time I saw her was in San Francisco in 2006. We ate terrible Japanese food for lunch, but the company was fantastic. RIP, my dear friend. I hope Natopia is every bit as wonderful as you imagined it would be. Love you.

One of the reasons I read these political threads is to reassure myself that there are lots of people who do have a clue. Seriously, it's a great comfort to me. Candles in the darkness, y'all.

Laura, I didn't realize that you followed through on your promise to start a book blog until I saw your sig. Before I became a mother, this book would have terrified me. Now, it's validating and comforting.

Even Nader is pro Edwards. Anyhoo, I have no business posting in this thread. I'm just going to sit on my hands and nod in agreement with everything bjorn and reni have to say from now on.
-
Yikes! Is this true? That's always a deal breaker for me. Edit: Never mind, I Googled it. Damn. Even so, Nader's flaws and contradictions don't make him a villain.

I think you can do both at the same time. Canada is a much more progressive place with the NDP and the Green Party than it could ever be without them on the ballot. For example, we have universal health care because the Liberals "borrowed" the idea from the CCF (NDP). That's why it's so ironic that Michael Moore eventually abandoned Nader. He obviously doesn't get it. Also, whenever one of our major political parties screws up, Canadians pulverize them because we have a few more choices. In the US, the left really has nowhere to go, so nobody has to listen to them. If people begin to th

The fact that someone like Ralph Nader (!) is seen as a villain shows how batshit crazy US politics has become.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays, Everyone!

It's possible, but I'll need access to a kitchen and some cherry brandy. Not necessarily in that order. -
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays, Everyone!

A belated Merry Christmas to all! There's still a little of my chocolate & black cherry trifle left. Dig in! -
What are your favorite TRADITIONAL Christmas songs?
Dreamin' replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
"O Holy Night" is beautiful, but it can be horrible if the performer is crass and showy. Nat King Cole's version is my favourite. -
I've been fighting a vicious case of the holiday blues, so I called in sick and went to see I'm Not There this afternoon. The story of Bob Dylan is American folklore, and Todd Haynes pulled it off brilliantly. Great soundtrack, too!

I don't have a salmon cake recipe (maybe you could adapt a recipe for crab cakes?), but there are some great salmon recipes here. I use maple syrup and soy sauce (2:1) as a marinade for BBQ salmon. If you want to make it a bit fancy, coat the salmon in crushed peppercorns and black sesame seeds.

I think the girl's real inner thoughts about this asshole she's dating would be much funnier. He's just projecting.

I lurked regularly, but didn't register until 2003.

I remember the guy at the gate reminding me that I wouldn't be allowed back in if I left. Not that I really had a choice in the matter. When I got to the hotel room, I opened the window, pulled up a chair, and stuck my head outside with the heavy curtains behind me so that I could listen to the show while my daughter slept. Not quite the same as standing in the front row with my friends, but better than no Wilco at all.

Best moment: Listening to SBS for the first time, with my friends. When Jeff played my request (Pink Moon) at the Hotel S&S, that was pretty cool too. Missed moment: Having to leave the Troutdale, OR show just minutes before Wilco took the stage because my very tired baby daughter was about to have a meltdown. I listened to the show from the hotel room. Bittersweet.
