  1. Wow! I haven't heard Bragg doing "California Stars," but I can't imagine it sounding anywhere near as awful as Wilco doing "Walt Whitman's Niece." And was that Jay Bennet who yelled out "he said seaman (semen)?" Truly horrible.
  2. "MMJ is an awesome band. If there was one (of their four) studio album you would recommend to try and turn people on to them, which one would it be?" As with Wilco that's a difficult question to answer as the band has progressed by leaps and bounds with each successive record. Earlier on, they were much more stripped down, at times on the first album, "The Tennessee Fire," James almost seemed to be putting out a solo record, still some very sweet tunes. The second album, "At Dawn," isn't quite the "AM" to "Being There" leap, but it is much more expansive in style and scope and the songs star
  3. Looks like I'll be going to the 2nd 9:30 Club show as well. Anyone else around here gonna be there?
  4. Sorry this is late, but it's my first time in front of a computer in many days. So, I had the privilege of seeing My Morning Jacket again after a nearly four-year gap the other night in Knoxville and thought I'd share a few thoughts. When last I saw them, I thought that I had just seen one of the greatest live bands in many years. Being that it had been so long since that show, my expectations were pretty high. We sat about half way back in the orchestra section of the meticulously and gloriously restored Tennessee Theatre. The band took the stage at about 9 to a long-time favorite ("The Bea
  5. I know all of the arguments against, and I can even respect a few of them, but how KISS wasn't in first ballot I have no idea. Even if you take away their brilliant stage show, theatrics and cultural impact, they made some damn good records. Especially the first six studio records which all came out in under four years time. That omits Alive which is still one of the best live records ever (even with the piped in crowd and overdubs) and the excellent Ace Frehley solo record, which I still listen too semi-regularly and have been since the early 80's. I heard there was a protest at last year's i
  6. Thanks in advance for that show you guys are gonna play in Richmond in 2007, and for that long overdue return to Australia.
  7. Since when is San Francisco in the Pacific Northwest anyway? Signed Greg from Richmond, VA in the MidWest. All joking aside, another excellent document of Tweedy/Wilco. I like the the set up with a bit of flavor from each town: streetscapes, the audience, slice of life shots, bridges, industry, the redwoods, all very beautifully shot. The mix of interviews and songs is just about right and despite what I thought upon first seeing the song listing, it's a pretty good mix. I mean even if it were 8 hours long, and included nearly every Tupelo, Wilco, Loose Fur, Minus 5, Golden Smog song, so
  8. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I for one, think there is good reason that neither of these songs has been issued on an album proper. See also the 4th disc of Springsteen's "Tracks" box set.
  9. Not to carry on in the tour setlist bashing mode, but typically end-of-tour shows are more memorable and varied, with the crew picking out rarer favorites. For example look at the recent end-of tour show in Charlottesville, VA from this spring. 1. Via Chicago Via Chicago lyrics @ bemydemon.org 2. 10. My only Top 10 favorite Wilco song from "A.M.," and I don't think it's ever gonna get bumped.
  11. "Someone brought up the point of the guys playing for like 2-2 and 1/2 hours a night. That's a long ass time to be on stage. Id say to be able to get 6 guys to play for that long and to be able to play each song super-frigging tight you need to keep things somewhat similar. These guys can't be expected to memorize 60-70 songs and change the set list dramatically every night." When the guys in the E Street Band were around the age, Wilco is now, they and Springsteen were playing shows that were 3-4 hours nightly and dozens of different tracks. Was that just an entirely different era where ba
  12. Since the show was in DC, and "Political Science" was played I thought I'd pass on that there was a 400 strong, fiery, anti-Bush rally in Richmond today. We can't keep the heat high enough.
  13. Official number- 74! dID i cOUNT rIGHT?
  14. I can feel it, there gonna come back. Clap, clap, clap,.......................
  15. "How Can I," "How Can I," "How Can I" strike out looking with the bases loaded, bottom of the ninth, World Series on the line? Oh yeah, Jeff is pretty frickin' hilarious right now and that background music sounds like lightweight porno music.
  16. Bases loaded, Beltran, Kingpin, it's all too much. Media overlaod!!!
  17. The soon to be, new show stopper! Very, very good!
  18. Mets, two on, no outs, bottom of ninth.
  19. The Mets have to lose/ they have to lose/ They have to learn how to die...
  20. It's sorta funny watching 60,000 devastated Mets fans while listening to one of the most upbeat songs ever.
  21. Great set so far, bye bye Mets 3-1 Cards!
  22. First time back on the computer since last night's show and thought I'd add a few thoughts. First off before I forget my partner and I stayed in Morgantown for a couple of nights while there for the show and damn what a great, small town, like a smaller Pittsburgh with wonderful neighborhoods climbing up the sides of all the mountains, very scenic, nice riverfront and some excellent bike trails, of which we enjoyed. As for the show, a bit of a shitty venue. Big, open, high ceilings, so-so sound and a barricade. I think the set up might've affected the band through the early part of the set
  23. I saw it in the theater in San Diego, Louisville and Richmond and have probable watched the dvd 5 or 6 times, the extras, maybe twice as much. I enjoy it every time, but the first time in the theater was way cool.
