The two times I've seen Dr Dog this year have been better than the last two Wilco shows I saw. Given a headlining slot they build a lot of steam, plus I think they are probably much better suited to small venues and not 10,000 plus Millenium Park. All of that being said I'm looking very forward to seeing both next Friday in Louisville. I however am not looking forward to the 1,100 mile roundtrip.

3 for 3 for me for Wilco/Tweedy in Charlottesville. As to Justin's point on the presale for a GA show, it is indeed funny. And although I was holding out hopes for a Toad's Place show, the Pavillion will work just as well. The last show they played there was excellent. It's pretty ridiculos that I bought Louisville tix for fear of them not coming around here for awhile. But that will be worth the 9 hour drive times two as Dr. Dog has my reigning album of the year.

Icky Thump - New White Stripes album

I think the White Stripes early singles on ebay are amongst the most ridiculously high selling things I've ever seen on ebay. -
NYC Seranade on Springsteen's second, the Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle.

RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!
LouisvilleGreg replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
The Avett Bros are playing at Toads in September, looks like it'll be my first visit. I can walk along the canals from my house and be there in 20 minutes tops. -
The real question is who does the superior version of "Black Diamond," The Replacements or PJ?

RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!

I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the Charlottesville Pavillion again, there last show there was very good and I'm sure it was made note of. I'm not sure that Richmond booking agents have their shit together enough. Examples: Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams. These are all shows that are upcoming in Charlottesville that could have been at Toad's Place, The Landmark or perhaps even the Canal Club. If these shows were in Richmond I'd probably be going to them all, but I'm going to have to choose. I live less than a ten minute walk from the Landmark and they rarely d -
I read somewhere on a Pearl Jam site not tlong ago that when they played three consecutive nights in a city that I don't recall they played an entirely different set list every night. No repeats whatsoever for three straight nights. I think it came out to 75-80 total songs. That's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard of a band doing. I think I saw Wilco about 10 times on various AGIB shows, and I'm pretty sure I didn't hear more than 35-40 songs on all of those shows combined.

Icky Thump - New White Stripes album

For Sports radio fans, I noticed that Jim Rome added the title track to his intro and outro to commercials rotation. The Stripes are sure to have a huge bump in sales next week. -
Led Zeppelin Readies Fall Reissues

It would be great if they edited out all of the ridiculous fantasy sequences, and had the new expanded concert play straight through. I thought those parts were great when I was a kid, but I tried to watch them a couple of years ago and it was extremely hard to sit through. As for a reunion, it's one that I must say has intriqued me for awhile, and I just might shell out the bog bucks to see it. -
Just got section 5 Gold circle whatever that means off of the wilcoworld louisville presale. sounds good.

RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!
LouisvilleGreg replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
Hey Justin, I took both my girlfriend and ex girlfriend to the Norva show and we got there so early there wasn't a soul around. We were the very first three people in line. I saw Tweedy walking around as well. He looked like he had been shopping. Now I see someone before virtually every show. Mikael was standing right out front of the Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte a couple of months back for 15 minutes or more and I don't think anyone other than myself even knew who he was. Pat was in a deli two tables down from me in Chapel Hill. Saw Glen twice in the same day walking around Morgantown. All I -
RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!

The New Toad's Place on the Canal Turning Basin is up and running and hosting a wide variety of shows. I think it's in the 1,500 capacity which should be adequate for a Richmond Wilco show. The National Theatre on Broad Street is also nearing completion. It's been since the "Being There" tour, I think ten years this summer since the last show. They've played Norfolk, Williamsburg, Charlottesville as the full band and Tweedy solo, so I would think that Richmond is definitely due. The key would be to try and contact booking agents for the above venues and alert them of Wilco's touring itinerary -
$45 is pretty steep, but I fear it's a sign of things to come. Perhaps they'll play 26-30 songs for that amount as opposed to 18-22 songs for $30.

Icky Thump - New White Stripes album
LouisvilleGreg replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
Sometime I get in the car and listen to just "You Don't Know What love is" over and over again. It's so ridiculously catchy. If it were a just world this song would be all over the radio. Also a quick question? Did Get Behind Me Satan ever come out on vinyl? If so any tips on where to find it? Thanks in advance. -
I kept expecting "Born In The USA" to be #1, but when I painfully clicked through the whole list and it wasn't even listed, the list became irrelevant to me. Don't get me wrong there were some great choices, but how this song wasn't on the list at all blows my mind. Also where's Billy Bragg? Gil Scot Heron? How about King Harvest by the Band? Lorretta Lynn's The Pill? "Clampdown," is a great Clash song, but "Washington Bullets" would'vd been a much better choice. I could go on and on.
-
I made the mistake of playing Get Behind Me Satan first for my girlfriend and later when I tried to play the first two albums she hated them. She's only lukewarm on Icky Thump. So, I do think Satan is probably somewhat more accesible than others.

Where is SBS this week on the Billboard charts?
LouisvilleGreg replied to unposed_question's topic in Just A Fan
It's probably already been in the top 200 longer than any other record I would imagine. Has it alreadyoutsold AGIB? -
"We All Belong" is still my album of the year. I think the flow is great and the multiple vocalists, a nice alternative. I saw them in a tiny, tiny place in Charlottesville, VA a few months back and what a great fucking show they put on. My only regret of seeing them open for Wilco is how short their set might be.

I have what I believe is called Farewell Transmissions from very early on and absolutely love it. I tried their newest and it didn't hit me like that at all. What else should I consider?
-
I've seen Wilco dozens of time and they have been my favorite band for many, many years, so don't worry. I was being a bit sarcastic, but I do think in the current, Dr. Dog are a superior live band, and "We All Belong" is superior to SBS. Wilco have toured with many phenomenol live bands, I think it keeps them sharp. I also refuse to beleive, no matter what bands may say, that there is some level of competitive drive when touring with bands or playing with bands with a reputation for being a good live act. I'm looking forward to seeing them both and am gonna travel close to 600 miles to do so.

Two things: First it seems to me that Mikael was on the stage, but sort of off to the side for some of the early shows I saw with him, which was somewhat puzzling. Dudn't he use to run some of the visuals as well? Secondly I just found these details regarding Louisville: 91.9 WFPK Presents: Wilco with guests Dr. Dog Friday, Sept. 21,8pm Gates 6:30pm Louisville Slugger Field Reserved Seating Tickets:$33/ $43

Now that's a double bill! I'll officially be rearanging my entire fall schedule now. Wilco better bring their A game with Dr. Dog opening. Great, great news.

They played at the Singletary Center around spring '03, with the four piece lineup. There was an article in the paper that day about it being a homecoming show for Glen. It was a pretty good one, but paled in comparison to seeing them a few weeks later in Asheville at the Orange Peel.

White Stripes jam with Inuit elders, rock Iqaluit

The Let's Build a Home clip on youtube with Jack bowling during the middle of the solo is brilliant. What an incredible tour that they are in the middle of. It surely must be unprecedented for any band to do a month in Canada. Very, very cool.
