Hot Stove Season---2014 Baseball Season Redux
calvino replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Me too ---- I don't have cable, so I am thinking about subscribing to MLB.tv, so I can watch it through my Roku---but it looks like local teams are still blacked-out in their areas - which sucks. -
That's good --- I thought they did stop streaming official stuff --- Not being able to stream the Europe 72 shows seem criminal. And who knows about the Soldier Field shows --- I am guessing GD mail order had maybe 10% of the tickets - if that.
-
Didn't the Archive pull officially released Dead soundboards - where you couldn't even stream it - or am I misremembering that. Anyway listening to 2/26/73 - which was Dick's Pick #28 - never listened to this show before. https://archive.org/details/gd73-02-26.sbd.kaplan.1208.sbeok.shnf

I am sure the size of venues has a lot to do with it. I saw him at a small, nice theater in Chicago during his last tour-- just bought the cheapest ticket and I think it was around $60 or so. Good seat, though - dead center in an upper balcony seat at the somewhat small Cadillac Palace. Starting in 97, I use to see him every time he passed through Chicago and traveled to IN, WI and MI to see him throughout the early to mid 2000's - now I see him about every 2 or 3 tours - it depends on the venue his playing. Since about 2006 or so, I always say it's the last time. I didn't catch any of

I did for about the last hour this past Sunday - enjoyed the (what I think was) Funkadelic tune - (long guitar solo intro).
-
In concert, I bet he doesn't sing more than two off his latest record ---- but then again anything is possible. I am guessing Stay with Me, since he has been playing it, and That Lucky Old Sun - a song he used to perform in concert from time to time.
-
Finally got around to watch this --- it was good one, very well done - the music and interviews meshed very well. Never realized that Lisa Fischer won a Grammy before. Darlene Love sure got the shaft by Spector - what a dick.
-
I just can't imagine them not streaming the show and charging for it - of course the City of Chicago Park District, who owns Soldier Field may not allow it or charge too much for the privilege, thus making it not feasible from a financial point.
-
Having kids might be the reason why I would want to catch one of the shows in a theater...Of course they are 3 and 5 --- I guess if you have kids and they want to see it too, it could get pricey.

I was at my local neighborhood pub and talked to someone who believes that Bigfoot like creature lives in the southern Cook county forest preserves.
-
I remember those Big Foot episodes, too - fun stuff. A local free channel still runs both the 6 Mil. Man and Bionic Woman on some week night.
-
They'll make a fortune with a simulcast, so I can't see them not doing it. I am sure the city/union will take large chunk of the revenue, but I am sure there will be plenty to go around.
-
Now that sounds nice.

I had fun at theater Grateful Dead movie nights -- lots of dancing and other stuff going on. I wouldn't say it was a free for all, but nobody was bothered by staff/security. Knowing me - I would end up just staying home, too, though.
-
Watched the Reverb show last --- it's amazing how different the band is now (for better or worse). The first time I saw WIlco, Egan has already left the band -- I didn't think he added too much to the sound. Leroy was a welcome addition.

Right.

Was there a throw down? Would of liked to seen that Sleater-Kinney show - it was tough ticket to get - at least that's what I heard - I really didn't try to get one. Listened to that JRAD show that Lammycat went to - it was a good one - esp that China Cat-> GDTRFB that was mentioned.

As long as they rehearse all the songs they plan to play - guess it doesn't matter if they don't know what song the are going to play. Does anyone know anyone who mail ordered and still waiting on a response. Heard from a couple who got rejected (and all was filled out right) - couple who not heard either way. Really hoping I get lucky on the day of sale - regardless, I am sure they will be shown on the web --- If they can pull off showing it at movie theaters, bars, or clubs, that would be even more fun. I am sure most of you already seen the article, but below is WSJ link about the mai

It's true: 'street cats making love' are annoying. Hell, all cats doing or making anything are annoying.

The First Great Song You Heard in Concert
calvino replied to roadhse ma's topic in Someone Else's Song
I guess 'Paper in Fire' by Mellencamp in 87 - the opener at my first concert. Hell of a show and tune. -
The Winter of our Discontent er of Snow in the NE
calvino replied to roadhse ma's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
That's insane --- best of luck to you people. Glad to be living in 'balmy, some-what-snow-free' Chicago area. -
Listened to the 2/12/86 show this a.m. -- fun, quick show. Garcia's voice is a bit rough, though. The Neville Brothers added a lot in the 2nd set. https://archive.org/details/gd1986-02-12.sbd.miller.81517.flac16

I really have to be in the mood for them -- I need to pull out their stuff soon - it's been a while.

As I started to read this I thought your were going to end with: "I'm going to cut you into little pieces" The below is one of Jagger/Richards better ones: The sunshine bores the daylights out of me. Chasing shadows moonlight mystery.
