  1. That's kinda of cool -- looks like Martyrs will showing the Dead shows via webcast, too - sounds like it might be a fun night. It's amazing all the events happening around these shows around all of Chicago --- even the Field Museum is getting in the action. http://www.fieldmuseum.org/at-the-field/programs/everything-dead-field-museum
  2. I thought the below was pretty good - Mayer with Phil and others, including Stu Allen - Guitar & Vocals and Scott Metzger - Guitar & Vocals. Mayer had some good licks - the Row Jimmy was a stand out. 5/8/77 at Terrapin Crossroads (6.12.15) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSHw2F10GvY
  3. It's nice to have Nicky Hopkins so high in the mix on the Midnight Rambler (Sticky Fingers - Remaster Extra - Live at the Roundhouse). I don't think I ever heard this version before - nice rendition.
  4. Well the Amazon Sunday delivery pilot program was a success - just grabbed it off my front porch. Will give it listen tomorrow night after watching the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup (hopefully - no intended jinxing here.) Yep - all Targets as far as I can tell -- my Target had about 6 in stock yesterday.
  5. Happen to go back to the same Target this morning and they did have have the Sticky Fingers release --- their exclusive is that you buy the CD and send in a code for the vinyl - they send the vinyl to you for free --- the whole thing was $17.99 -- almost pulled the trigger, but didn't. I do plan to buy a turn table with in the next year or so ---- so I really was tempted. But I can wait for Amazon order. Plus I have the record at my p's -- haven't listened to it about 10 years or so - hopefully it is still playable.
  6. Yeah - I waited to my early 40's to start a family - and they suck up a lot of money and time --- I don't blow money on music nearly as often as I use to -- one is a the money thing, but another is finding the time to listen to the purchases. Music is still played constantly though out the house, at least in one room or another -- my kids are liking the Beatles a little more than I would like - but there are worst things, like their requests for kidz bop - but I not going to be the one who tells them what they should listen to. Music has become a background thing now as oppose sitting down
  7. Yeah - I ended up going the Amazon route, too. My area is in the Sunday deliveries pilot program - see it if works. Heard the actual album doesn't sound great (too loud like Exile) --- Disc 2 is suppose sound good, though. Wish they would just release Disc 2 as a stand-alone. Think this is about my 5th copy or so of Sticky Fingers - my first was on 8-track. My record is still at my parents.
  8. Nice piece on Sticky Fingers. Went to a Best Buy and a Target to look for the re-release and neither of them had it -- man, I miss actual record stores. http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/culturebox/2015/06/sticky_fingers_by_the_rolling_stones_one_of_the_greatest_albums_in_rock.html
  9. Had a few opportunities to see him play, but never did - crap.
  10. I had to cheat - I didn't know that they were thinking of those two - interesting concept.
  11. Wonder if this kind of stuff still goes on? Crazy stuff.
  12. I heard stories from David Gans, with regards to Marshall ---- every time Gans wanted to interview him he had to bring Marshall cocaine --- sounds like that book would be good read.
  13. Speaking of older stuff - looking through a place were I keep old letters (letters, ha!) I came across the "This Darkness Got to Give" letter that the Dead were distributing throughout the Soldier Field lot in 95 -- must of put it in my pocket - at least is was all folded up. (at least I think got it in the lot - it may have been mailed out to people on the mailing list) https://www.flickr.com/photos/17573696@N00/16293252841
  14. Me. Guessing my tickets should be coming this week or so. (Hope he doesn't mind me writing for him) -- but it looks like NoJ is going on the 3rd.
  15. Yeah, during lunch I read that Taj Mahal canceled his Chicago Blues Fest appearance and wondered what that meant for Solid Sound. Shemekia Copeland is replacing Taj at the Chicago Blues Fest -- wouldn't be a bad replacement for him at Solid Sound, either.
  16. Looks like SiriusXM will be broadcasting the Chicago shows. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2015/06/04/grateful-dead-fare-thee-well-reunion-broadcast/
  17. Looks like that would have been a great day of music.
  18. Yeah - it definitely sounds like everyone was sharing their stash amongst each other -- it just sounds like Warren got a little grumpy (probably rightfully so - sounds the audience was a handful, but it sounds like Zevon was heckling the crowd, too) and the Dead just got giddy.
  19. Listening to 6/4/78 show this morning -- pretty wild 2nd set from drums onwards. Donna is kinda all over the place during Not Fade Away, GDTRFB, and Around and Around ("Spit it out, Bob!" ). Sounds like Warren Zevon's opening set was an interesting one. I haven't poked around, but does anybody know if Zevon's set was taped is available anywhere? Just finished up with the encore -- man, they all were flying high this night. Fun show. https://archive.org/details/gd1978-06-04.sbd.cantor.miller.94407.sbeok.flac16
  20. Listening to the CRB Betty Blends Vol. 2 now on Spotify -- nice They Love Each Other.
  21. I have listened to 5/19 a bunch over the years --10/15 is not ringing a bell with me though - need to check it out. I don't own the Dick's Pick 29 --- so I don't think I have ever listened to 5/21/77 before (or least it wasn't on my hard drive until I downloaded it off of etree yesterday) -- the 5/21 2nd set is indeed a great one. Nice Scarlet>Fire to end the 1st set, too.
  22. I re-watched Set 1 of the Crimson White & Indigo DVD last night - a show from 7.7.89 -- the above fits Garcia description during the show.
